When I took pretty much all my Xbox 360 games and a lot of my old PS2 ones, went to a Game store, handed them in for money(I hardly got 90£ for them) and bought four games for my new PS3 that I knew nothing about.
Ended up with Spider-man: Web of Shadows, Army of Two, Siren: Blood Curse and Fracture. All worthless games with no trophies.

Made me really sad.

It's a waste of money considering how much I spent on the 360 games. It's been over two years now I think and I still regret it. Have re-bought a few of the games for my PS3 however!
Also haven't been had since. While scouring for new PS3 games I found an English web site that has free delivery and cheap as hell games(over 50% cheaper than in Sweden). Bought all my games from there ever since.

The PSP i bought a few months back. Granted, i only paid £40 for it, but i havent touched it in a while and unless i get me some more ps1 games on it, its probably going to stay that way.
Why not? There are several good games on it, provided you're not looking for shooting games.
True, there are probably great games for it, but whenever i flick through the shelves in my local store, there's nothing that really catches my eye.

i usually end up playing it sitting around my house, which kinda defeats the purpose of "portable", seeing as my ps3 is right next to me most of the time.

Its not the system really, its more my own personal situation that makes it redundant.

Final Fantasy 13. Dear lord, what a train wreck. I couldn't make it past 15 hours in or so before reselling it and using that money to buy Fallout 3 GotY.
I'm gonna have to agree with you on this. Everyone says "Play it for about 20hrs, that's when it gets better." That's the same point at which I was bored, pissed, and fed up with the game.
Ugh. Squenix used to be so great.

Small bits of DLC. I.E. Map packs, cosmetic items, individual characters, etc.

If a developer wants to release more content for a game, they can do it all at once, or at least in larger chunks.

Worst of all, there's always eventually a special edition which includes all the extra content for less than the price of the core game at launch, just to make you feel even more cheated.

Alice: Madness Returns... for PC anyway... I played the original and thought it was quite good but when I installed the sequel I found that it's so terribly optimized and ported that it's effectively not worth playing... the camera and aim assist are design specifically for consoles and are extremely finicky and unwieldy speeding up and slowing down seemingly at random which isn't helped by not having an option to adjust the speed... the graphic options are minimal, only really having Resolutions to choose from and worse than that is that it's just so terribly optimized that running it on anything other than Japan's K supercomputer will result in absolutely abysmal frame rates and stuttering... even if said computer is running dual ATI Radeaon HD 6870s, 8 gigs DDR3 Ram and a 3.2 ghz quad core processor... all of which is more than twice the recommended requirements and even with everything turned off and on the lowest setting it finds a way to still chug horrendously when an enemy so much as enters the screen...

As for specific games

METROID OTHER M

Way to ruin my favorite franchise, Team Ninja. Looks like I won't be buying any DoA games any time soon.

Left 4 Dead 2 and Call of Duty 4. Granted I did get them on a steam sale and they WERE quite cheap but I haven't touched them in about a year.

I thought the wii fit w/ balance board was a waste of money. You really don't get that much of a work out, you only end up playing the "fun" games, and I get a better work out from the real gym I go to. Also there are no games that really use the fit that i would get.
I totally agree. I bought it and instantly had buyers remorse. I used it for maybe a month and then gave up on it. I'm pretty sure most others who bought it did the same.

I think the biggest waste of money I have ever seen was a peripheral for the xbox 360. It was a usb drink cooler(A fan with a plastic cover on top).

Let's see...

Star Fox Adventures. Apparently for a Zelda-esque game, it surprised me that beating the game with minimum accomplishments still got me 99% completion (which I think was only because the save from which you view that status is just before the final boss fight)

Left 4 Dead. Would not have put down that much money if I had known Left 4 Dead-1.5-minus-good-characters would have come out a year later.

I regret nothing.

Even though there were some games I liked better than others, so far I've been able to get a good amount of enjoyment out of every single one of them.

Yes, even Other M. Gameplay is a frustratingly different but also fun experience. Just go grab yourself a snack as soon as you hear the words "The Baby".

Orange Box, played through Portal, was alright, played through the whole of Vannila Half Life 2 because a friend told me it would cause bouts of spontaneous pleasure, biggest waste of $25 ever.
Really? You though portal was just "alright"? Everyone has their own opinion and the full right to express it, but wow, you're the first person who I've heard say it was "alright". Any specific reasons why you didnt like it?

Phantasy Star Online for the Gamecube. I paid $70CDN for it. Why was it a waste? Aside from the game being $20 more expensive than games are nowadays, it follows the time-honoured tradition of Action RPG's having an utter garbage combat system.
