There are actually some gameplay reasons for this, the Elite's head hitbox is slightly larger than the Spartan's (and much bigger in Halo 2) and it has a more easily spotted silhouette (Elites were originally designed to be a target after all).

Whether that affects players matchmaking/social games I don't know, but it can't have gone un-noticed that almost no pro players, if any, play as Elites.

OT: haven't played Halo in a loooooong time, although I played as an elite, because in Halo 3 you can get this kickarse helmet for the elite

I haven't played any other version of Halo after the first one, that one was okay, multi-player was fun, didn't have the current generation of verbal hatred then, was more pleasant than a session of Counter Strike at the time.

I used to be an Elite, personally they are more visually appealing to me, especially because like this guy says:

They are somewhat funny and humorous when playing.

Elites are allegedly harder to headshot.

It's true, unless you are properly elevated you can't headshot them from behind because their head sticks out forward and not on top like Spartans.

An emphatic yes. Only reason I bought the game but constantly getting targeted first means I've not played in years.

It's more to do with the fact that your comment added nothing to the discussion at hand.

I like playing elites, they look plain cool. Never thought about the bigger hitbox though, hasn't really made a difference to my playing.

Yes indeed, you do certainly have the right to speak your mind, I don't think anyone here would deny you that.
The problem though is that this is a conversation about a specific topic, of which you clearly have no interest. This is something that is really exclusive to the fans or associated players of Halo of which you clearly are not.
Of course I have no problem with you not liking Halo but the fact is, if you didn't have anything to say on the subject matter then you don't need to say it. Plenty of Final Fantasy threads have come and gone and I am not a player of Final Fantasy, yet I do not feel the need to mention it. Those threads are only the business of FF fans, not my place, hence I keep my distance.
See what I mean? I certainly defend to the death (figuritivley speaking, if anyone actually tries to get me to act this out they will be very dissapointed) your right to speak your mind, I don't honestly approve of this kind of a post.

Just to be clear though, I have no problem with your disliking of Halo.

I am not denying your right to say your own opinion, I do not do that.

However I will point out that YOU are indeed the sad man for two reasons:

1) This may be an open forum, but that does not mean you are allowed to say ANYTHING you want, especially in a thread that is entirely about something else. There is a time and place for everything, and this thread about people who play as Elites in Halo 3 is not for you to state that you do not play the game.

2) You openly confess that you are proud of having NOT played a game? Why? Because you assume it's shit? How can you know that if you haven't played it? Stop being a close-minded follower of popular hate towards a popular game and play the Halo games first before adopting that attitude. Honestly, any of your thoughts and/or opinions towards them are invalid because you haven't actually played them.

I seriously did not want to respond to you with this, now perhaps I am a sad man too, but someone had to point this out to you.

In conclusion, just play the games first, then you can say whatever you want, but don't troll like in this thread.

I play as Elite purely for the fact that it's (slightly) easier to survive. A bullet of any type, bar a Rocket, will go straight through an Elite's neck. I still love slaughtering them like mad on Legendary in the original though

But no, I think most people don't like Elites because they're harder to headshot, be that because they have a hunchback and you're behind them, because they look wonky, or just because you have a mental block to it after being told so many times they're hard to hit. I'm a mixture of the three of those things.

I really don't hate people who play Elites, but it does kinda make me sigh whenever I see I'm up against one or two.

Elites are fine with me, I play Spartans because I think their armor looks cooler. Elites look awesome, but the armor choice sucks to me.

I would only use an Elite in Team SWAT, due to headshots being near impossibly from behind
