OOC: I find it weird that I've missed every set piece in this thread so far, must be due to the fact that @Outis gets on I have to go off for work or something. Doesn't help that when he's on and I am I'm nearly always distracted by Fall of Cybertron or Dead Island.

OOC: I missed a mook fight? Damn it. I love mook fights.

Jacques rode back to the group from one of the streets. After dropping off the food that they had gathered the previous day he had chosen to go and explore the city that had once been so familiar to him.

OOC: @Ven I feel the same way.

OOC: Yesterday was probably the biggest waste of time. Wanted to have a game of 40k so I went to the shop...nobody in. I think "Fair enough I'll take the Staff Challenge and see if I can beat Dave for once" (Baring in mind the 3 times I've faced him he has destroyed me) I bring out my Eldar, unfortunately the list I bring is terrible against orks and is more tailored to killing Space Marine or Tau armies. Long story short I surrendered in 37 minutes. I had lost 2 Vypers, 4 Dark Reapers and their Exarch, 10 Guardians, a ranger and my Farseer failed leadership and ran away. In response I had killed a grand total of 4 orks. 4. Yes. 4.

"I... I don't trust anyone."

OoC @Ven: I'm not familiar with the rules of 40K, but damn. That sounds like so much fail. xD

OOC: I'll have him notice it, but the Eiffel Tower wasn't fully constructed until 1889, so...

@Ven Sounds like a rough game. Out of curiosity, why would an army capable of taking down Space Marines or Tau not be any good against Orks? Surely if they can outshoot the Tau and pierce Space Marine gear, then the Orks wouldn't even get into melee range?

Couleuvrine's hooves clattered against the cobbles of the street in which the group rested as Jacques reined him in, then dismounted and approached the others.
"Salute, mes amis." He greeted them as he approached. "Comment ca va?"

"Who would've thought..." she said to Bane, her mood lifted slightly. When Jacques approached, she gave him small wave, but didn't say anything, as she couldn't understand what he just said.

OOC: My anti MEQ (Marine equivalent list) Is specialised with alot of weapons which do eat through heavy infantry. As Eldar I rely on getting the first turn however and this resulted in me taking casualties to ork shooting. My list struggles against hordes as there is simply not enough models with the ability to shoot at everything on the board. Against compact armies of heavy infantry with one or two vehicles I can shred them but against Orks I would have taken a completely differant army. It would have been more model reliant, with Night SPinner support and the majority of my army would Deep Strike or Outflank. At presant I just don't have the right models to configure a Firebase list to deal with hordes. Also I underestimated ork shooting, unlike Eldar Ork vehicles allow their passengers to fire out of them.

It boils down to luck. I needed first turn I didn't get it, I failed more saves than I should and my Guardians ran away turn 1, taking a Missle Launcher with them. My firing line was slightly maimed but that wasn't all bad. I knew I had lost when my shooting had killed 4 Orks and nothing else. I rolled terrible, frankly. Then the Dakkajet came on...yeah those things are OP.

OOC: Ah, I get you. Essentially your army were designed for hitting heavy targets in small numbers, but didn't have the capacity to gun down large number of troops at a time. On top of the issues of bad luck.

Oh, also, a hypothetical question occurred to me the other night. Space Marines view the technology of other races as heresy, but what if they encountered something built on Earth long ago, like a crossbow or arquebus? Would they still consider that weapon to be unclean like your guys did with those Chaos weapons?

Jacques smiled slightly as he remembered Terra's unfamiliarity with his language.
"I said hello my friends. How are you?" He informed her, before glancing up at a movement in his peripheral vision. Seeing the strange metallic construct running towards them he turned to it and laid a hand on his wheellock.
"Now what is this new madness?" He asked himself.

"Que diable?" Jacques gasped as the machine swung at him. Dropping into a classic fencer's stance he deftly sidestepped the attack, drawing his pistol from his bandolier as he did so. As the robot tried to recover and follow up from its swing he extended his arm, placed the muzzle of the long pistol against its temple and pulled the trigger, the gun emitting a great puff of acrid black gunsmoke as it fired.

Terra shot up and instantly drew her sword when the robot attacked Jacques. She considdered striking it with a electricity-based spell, but quickly decided against it, as she couldn't do so without the risk of striking Jacques also.

OOC: Imperial technology has undergone severe technoligical regression. Technology is revered instead of used. Maintenance is replaced with repair rights and Tech-priests tend to the Imperium's machinery. Their is no innovation since it is hubris to believe to know better than the past. Standard Template Constructs (STCs) are factories that remember a certain template for a piece of equipment, tanks etc. These are dated back to the start of the Imperium when the Imperium used Grav-tanks and such. The only time any innovation is made is when one of these STC's is discovered. To answer the question though they probably wounldn't mind, it was made by humans and therefore wouldn't blaspheme against the Omnissiah.

Varger drifts over to the robots corpse, it had distracted him enough for Fenris to calm him down. A dark, scaled hand emerged from the folds of his rags and he grapped the robot my the arm and lifted into the air to inspect the chassis.
