The interceptors previously followed by the birds turned and headed back to the fight. The chase had taken them far away however, so they were not close. The other pair turned and began an attack run. But due to the chariot splitting up and Samus now in the middle of it, they elected not to fire, and instead hung back around 200 metres.

You look up and in the distance see Samus and Gwen fighting the knights in close range. You decide to aim them, flicking your blaster over to medium power and full-auto before opening fire on the knight closest to you.

<color=purple>"No problem. But you should probably tell me what you're going to be doing. I assumed you were going to shoot them. Give me a signal next time."

-----
EMily did her best to assess the targets that were available with the use of Photon. Now that they were disperse and on floating-horseback, she wanted to me more careful with her shots. So she didn't fire yet.

Due to the air currents and awkwardness of the shot, Samus would miss the first couple shots, the missile getting dangerously close to hitting her. Luckily she succeeded in hitting it before it was too close, Gwen managing to move them out of the resulting explosion radius that would have potentially still damaged Samus' armour. The duo would also notice the approaching lone rides that had been dealing with the interceptors previously as they were still catching up with the remaining knights. The two split off as one rode forwards and up, while the other slowed slightly and went lower.

The higher knight shortly after drew his sword, and corkscrewed the horse in flight, so that he was essentially upside down. As he did this he jumped off from his stead, the horse disappearing in a flash of light which transferred to the sword the knight had drawn. The knight then dropped down to attempt to deliver a might slash with the empowered blade. The lower knight seemed to be there to catch the falling knight once he'd made the strike.

[hr]

Shara's suppressing fire towards the 6 knights who had last been on the chariot went unnoticed. Many of the shots were avoided, the knights gaining a boost in speed as the mana that had formed the chariot returned to them. Most notable of the shots that did manage to strike was one of the archers who had been focusing on EMily, Shara's efforts delaying the arrow he had. The second archer however had another knight block the fire Shara had let loose, loosing the arrow as it rocketed towards where EMily was, having a much higher degree of accuracy than the previous two arrow. At this distance, telling Dave of incoming fire would have minimal effects.

Since EMily was holding her fire, if she was fast enough, a well aimed plasma shot would be able to connect with the arrow.

<color=purple>"Where to now?" Gwen asked Samus. She was circling back to the airlock in case Samus was done.
-----

EMily knew it would be too little time to ask for a move from Dave. She attempted to fire all three powerful shots at the arrow. She assumed it was like a missile that could be shot down. If not, she braced for impact, her eyelids squished tight.

<color=purple>"Gonna have to hold on for a minute. Incoming mass!" She headed at a grueling 20 m/s away from the deadly shot coming from above.

Samus was jerked by the sudden movement, unable to get a shot in at the attacker above them. She looked up, trying to draw a head on him.

As the plasma shots impacted the arrow, the two impacted for a moment before resulting in a large explosion. The hull of the ship was relatively fine although it did show damaged and bits of lingering fire. EMily had made it out pretty well too, she might have been knocked around in her seat, bits of white fire clinging onto the glass EMily had been looking through. The explosion unfortunately had one glaring downside in that the resulting smoke cloud made in next to impossible to see the knights from her angle, although the opposite was also likely true.

[hr]

The knight cursed as he missed his mark, landing on the back of the lower knight as the two quickly chased after the two women since they were also heading back to Dave's ship. As chase continued, the knight with the empowered sword started making swing strikes towards Samus and Gwen trying to cut them down as they gave chase, launching sword beams at the duo.

[hr]

Much like the last explosion, Sophia yelped again as she tightened her grip on the bathroom wall handle, shivering as she hoped it would be over soon.

You see Samus and Gwen being attacked, and turn your focus there, firing a stream of bolts against the attacker.
[hr]
At the same time, the back ramp of the Skyranger opens, showing the four soldiers crouching in a line with their weapons aimed. With one sniper rifle, two regular rifles and one LMG, this group has some serious firepower. They are also wearing some rather odd armour. They are covered in the same material over almost the entire body, but it is thicker in vital areas and very thin around joints. They are also wearing helmets connected to the suit, giving them a menacing look and good protection against the weather. The four open fire on the closest knight, one three round burst from each rifleman, a six-round burst from the LMG and a single shot from the sniper.

<color=purple>"Hang on! Try and take some shots."
Gwen continued to zig-zag around the slashes, doing the best she could to sense the incoming masses.
-----

EMily had to sit tight for a bit until the smoke cleared. She called out to Dave through the intercom.
"Can I have a radar input on those knights please? I can't perform a radar check with my own powers if I'm inside a metal box."

Samus switched her cannon to missile mode, firing a couple of homing rockets at the sword knight, more accurate and powerful than a beam shot but somewhat slower.

The knights hadn't expected such a warm welcome from the Skyranger, the unfortunate knight that received the punishment fell from the sky, although it wasn't evident on how much damage he had taken. The other 5 knights however bounded out of the way, the archer that Shara had slowed down let loose the arrow he had prepped. Since he couldn't see EMily's position anymore, he instead aimed to peg the interior of the Skyranger where the soldiers had appeared. The arrow of light rocketed with alarming speed towards its destination.

[hr]

Samus was successful on dealing with some of the strikes, and coupled with Gwen's zig zag they were able to avoid most of the remaining strikes. Unfortunately due to the odd physical properties of mana, dodging on gravity alone wasn't enough to ensure complete safety. Both would take some minor damage[footnote]Small cuts, cut clothing, chopped hair, a lost shoe... anything like that really[/footnote] from grazing some of the beams, although it wouldn't be enough to break Gwen's concentration.

While the two knights had been so focused on Gwen and Samus however, the driving knight hadn't noticed Shara launch an attack their way. The rider ducked and started to dip the horse to get away from the fire, but not before the knight with the sword was impacted. This forced him to stop his attack his body almost acting like he'd been hit by a lance, but managed to still hold onto his sword.

[hr]

Dave hearing the message from EMily popped up a display of the radar. From the readings, she'd manage to get at least one more volley in before the knights finally reached the ship, the smoke still hadn't cleared, so she needed to make it count.

"Thank you." EMily called back. She took a gander at the radar and had it inputted into Photon. Its lightning speed calculations put other computers to shame as it put together the radar's northward mark in relation to the ship with its direction and velocity on the Earth to give her the precise coordinates for the knights. The guns took aim. She fired the three shots she could manage at the incoming attackers before they would reach the ship with the use of the improved targeting system and radar.

Gwen grumbled as she got hit, but she got back into her trance to continue flying. Her endorphins were high enough to ignore the pain of the cuts on her.
<color=purple>"I'll keep circling them! It looks like they're almost towards Dave's ship."

Most of the soldiers managed to avoid the arrow, the sniper and commander by pressing themselves against the walls and the medic by hitting the deck. However, the heavy was unable to get down in time and was hit straight in the chest. The new body armour proved itself to be no replacement for luck and skill as the poor soldier flew backwards and got impaled against the back wall, causing the entire ship to shake and groan. The arrow then disappeared, leaving him to fall down and slowly slide back towards the ramp, a trail of blood on the floor and a massive dent in the wall. The sniper, horrified, simply stared at the smear of his comrade's blood. The commander managed to keep his wits about him, and fired a burst against the responsible archer while ordering the medic to look after the heavy. She, in turn, scrambled backwards towards the heavy, pulling out a medkit on the way.

You curse at how ineffective your own attacks are, and doubly so when you see XCOM getting hit. You duck down, fumbling with your reload in the heavy winds.

Samus' armour received a few scratches, but nothing that would damage the wiring or disrupt the suit. She kept firing missiles, aiming for the knight with the sword.

Code:
"Well there's not much to fall on us, so as long as we don't get thrown around we'll be fine."
Vicky tried to reassure Sophia. She reached out her right hand to Sophia and suggested,
Code:
"I'm pretty stable, so just hang onto me if you need to."

The commander would serve his men proud, his suppressing fire on the archer distraction his attention enough for EMily's plasma shot to impact the knight, sending him flying off his horse plummeting to the earth below. EMily's shot also managed to land similarly on another one of the 5 knights in the smoke, unable to see the incoming shot, and was struck directly in the head, taking it clean off.

The final shot missed its target however, the knight it was aiming for had abruptly lifted upwards, the knight with the large gauntlets that had talked with the member of the XCOM previously that evening. As he lifted up he performed a similar move that the knight with the sword had done to Samus and Gwen, coming down with his gauntlets as he struck the hull of the ship where the arrow had exploded, attempting to force a way into the metal bird to get to Sophia.

Where Haggard had landed would be too low to the hull for EMily's gun depression to aim properly.

[hr]

The two knights that were still engaging with Samus were able to avoid her missiles for the moment, the rider keeping a keen eye on her as they rode along, trying to stop Gwen and Samus, but also regroup with their companions. Samus would note the knights were avoiding the missiles at a much smaller margin, either because he was able to predict where she was firing and didn't have to dodge as exaggeratedly, or more likely that he was having trouble multitasking to watch both Samus and Gwen and Shara.

[hr]

Sophia looked up hesitantly as Victoria mentioned there wouldn't be anything to fall on them. "That's what I'm afraid of!" Sophia said coincidentally as the impact from Haggard shook the ship with his impact to the hull, causing Sophia to lose her grip of the wall as she fell towards Victoria. It was worth noting that although not pungent, Victoria would notice a clear aroma of chocolate from Sophia.

Hearing a metal clanging outside, Sara was alerted that someone was trying to force open the ship.
<color=brown>"Winona, come with me! We must secure the breach point if they come through!" Sara said, taking off. And Winona dashed as well.
-----

EMily had to take her time to assess whatever targets were left.
"Dangit, the guy's out of range."

-----

<color=purple>"Keep up the pressure. Press the attack." Gwen said, moving in at attack speeds.

The commander, shouting some sense into the sniper, told him to take down, in his own words, "The big fucker on the spaceship". He himself fired on one of the two knights still hanging back. The sniper took aim and fired on Haggard, his aim still a little shaky. The medic meanwhile, managed to stabilize the heavy. It would seem that the new armour still does wonders, as his insides would otherwise have been crushed against the wall when he flew into it. Still, he was in a really bad shape.
[hr]
You manage to slap a fresh clip into your blaster and pop back up. Taking careful aim with each shot, you fire three high-power blasts against the knights attacking Samus and Gwen.
