"You're not really in a position to criticise us for letting the killer get away. You were here before us." the officer responded.
The other sighed and stepped into the room. "Thank you," she said to Gwen.

 

[Slenn]

<color=purple>"Your other officers can confirm our method of entry. However bizarre it might be. There was also a vine that I, to use the right word, saw crawl up the building with haste. As if it was magic."

Samus stepped back from the window, not seeing anything out there.

While the group was distracted, a figure emerged from the wood of the door, taking the shape of Chloe. The new mass would be detected by Gwen as soon as it started forming. Once Chloe had fully formed, she swung her axe towards Samus' neck.

 

[Slenn]

<color=purple>"Samus! Watch out!" Gwen shouted as she sensed the sudden mass appear from the door. Gwen flung her hands forward pushing Chloe back with a 1 g pull away from Samus.

"I figured as such. A dryad hides amongst the woods as is tied with nature. Even if that wood makes a door."

 

[Drakmorg]

Not actually being distracted, Victoria swung her left fist at the back of Chloe's head once she spotted her running for Samus from behind.

Samus was jerked back by the sudden motion of the gravity pull, but shook the surprise off quickly. She drew her Paralyser, firing a quick shot at Chloe.

Samus' Paralyser stunned Chloe, preventing her from bracing for an impact with Vicky. The blow to the back of the head would send Chloe tumbling to the floor after Gwen's gravity pull stopped affecting the dryad's body. A white orb emerged from the corpse, and flew into Joanna.

 

[Slenn]

Gwen let go.

"What in the name of Heaven did I just see?" EMily was pretty much stunned.

 

[Drakmorg]

Victoria lost her balance and stumbled back a bit, as she wasn't expecting Chloe to be flung towards her.

 

[Gearhead mk2]

Samus holstered the Paralyser, turning and walking out of the room, considering this just another job done.

 

[Slenn]

<color=purple>"You okay there? Sorry 'bout that push." She apologized to Vicky.

 

[Drakmorg]

"Eh, no harm done."

Victoria reassured Gwen.

"What was all that weird mess with the body though?"

 

[Random berk]

Following her consumption of the dryad's soul, Joanna was left standing with her fighting knives hanging by her sides. Her muscles seemed to her to briefly fizz with power as everything that Chloe was sank into her mind, and all her potential fed into Joanna's wealth of capability. Slowly, silently, she slid the knives into the bandoliers across her chest.

Samus looked at Joanna as she absorbed the dryad. "How do you feel?"

 

[Random berk]

Joanna didn't reply for a few moments, and slowly looked up to make eye contact with Samus.
"... I am alright." She mumbled, looking around the room at the body on the bed, at the dead dryad, at the woman with cat's ears standing over it with a bloodied fist, as though she was not quite sure what they all meant.

Samus was unsure, but decided not to press the issue.

 

[Drakmorg]

"Alright, I guess we're just playing the 'don't answer anyone's questions' game. That's always fun."

Victoria muttered to herself as not a single person payed attention to her question. She shrugged and wiped Chloe's blood off her hand, then picked up Chloe's corpse and tossed it onto her shoulder.

One police officer had moved away from the fight to call for a coroner, while the other was too stunned by what had just happened to tell Vicky not to steal the dead dryad.

The group headed back to the bounty store, Chloe's body in hand as proof. When thy got there and received their pay, there was another bounty on the wall, one that hadn't been there last time.
