Alek held out his sabre, sizing up Sherman. It was best to try for a quick victory, he decided, not wanting to see how long he could last against a stronger opponent. With that, Alek swung, first aiming for the chest. The blow was deflected, as expected, but it did open up Sherman's left side, which Alek quickly maneuvered to take advantage of.

Eragon had turned to see the duel between Alek and Will when he heard the gun roar into life. The bullets however stopped centimetres before they hit him and fell to the floor. He had worded his ward in such a way that he would gradually slow down the bullets as they drew with a certain distance rather than casting a ward that would stop them the instant they came close, that would be more of a drain on his energy. The barrage continued and Eragon began to sweat as his energy was drained, his breathing became laboured and his legs slightly shaky but his ward held. As the last bullet left the gun he ended his ward and shouted "Letta orya thorna!" The bullet stopped in mid-air and this time Eragon's drop in strength was drastic. Then he shouted again "Gath sem oro un lam iet" and the bullet slowly drifted towards him and he plucked it from the air. He walked over to hunter panting and gave the bullet to him "Thats how I -pant- stop bullets" Eragon said before half-collapsing at a bench to watch the duel taking place before him.

OOC: By the way...I...don't know...anything about fencing...sooooo yeah...I;ll just be winging it.

Alek's first move was a slash at Will's chest. He deflected it easily. But then he realised his left was open, Alek went for a strike there, so Will quickly moved to the right and getting into a ready stance.

OOC: I guess Will is using his right hand. That's probably important.

Eragon accepted the flask and took a large swig of it before handing it back to Hunter. "I could have been better at wording my ward but I couldn't risk redirecting bullets in this room." He gasped at the taste of the bottle. "what is this?" Eragon asked.

OOC: Yeah, I'm in my school's fencing club. I haven't fenced for very long, but yeah. I see that this might be a bit difficult for you.

Alek withdrew, quickly preparing for the counterattack. For a moment he could almost hear Volger's voice 'There are three things essential to every duelist, Alek. Strategy, Technique, and Speed.' Volger had berated Alek for his strategy, and openly mocked his technique, but if there was one thing that the wildcount had to admit, it was that Alek was fast. That was the key, if nothing else, Ale could rely on his speed to carry him through.

OOC: I was planning on letting Alek win anyway, but I won't make it easy.

Will decided to test the boys defence skills. He went for a downward strike at his head.

Alek raised his guard, glad that Eragon had dulled the blades for this bout. The blow came with more force than he expected, and it almost broke through. However, Alek managed to hold, parrying and striking again, this time along Sherman's outstretched arm.

Eragon was more exhausted than he thougt. He quickly stored a fraction of the energy he had left into the saphire set into the pommel of his sword; Brisingr before his head hit the desk with a loud thud and he fell asleep.

OOC: night guys I'm off, also the dulling spell will last until Eragon ends it so the fact that hes asleep won't remove the spell.

OOC: Ummm...man writing a sword fight is HARD when you don't know how to sword fight.

Will recoiled and slashed at his left side.

Alek retreated quickly, the strike narrowly missing him. He followed up with a fast advance, and lunged toward the other man's chest. Sherman was a good fighter in his own right, but he couldn't avoid the fast strike. He backed away more and deflected the next blow as Alek tried to follow up with a strike toward Sherman's head.

OOC: Thought I'd help you out a bit there.

OOC: Thanks. Bit of a rewrite of what you put though.

Will was impressed. This boy was good, but not perfect. He was fast, his attacks fulled by youthful vigor, and he most likely would win in a drawn out battle. These were his advantages. Will was stronger, taller (giving him a longer reach), and was more experienced. Alek was also well trained, so he knew what to expect from his opponent. But Will could exploit this and make that into an advantage of his. 'If I can surprise him, throw him off balance...' Instead of blocking the strike aimed at his head, he ducked and dashed forward, planing to drive his shoulder into the boy's exposed chest.

Alek stumbled back. That was certainly illegal, he thought. Sherman's blow connected, not as badly as it might have, but enough for Alek's entire left side to be exposed to a counterattack, which Sherman promptly delivered. Alek was lucky that he was fast enough to manage some haphazard defense that just barely kept the blade from connecting. As he returned to his guard stance, Volger's voice returned, 'There are no helmets in war, Alek.' The count was right, he usually was. Alek threw off all decorum. Let's duel, he thought, striking at Sherman's exposed knee, an illegal target.

OOC: Now it's ON!

Now it was Will's turn to stumble. 'He learns quickly.' he thought, almost proudly, as he pulled his leg back out of the way, the blade just barely missing him. He recovered his footing quickly and dashed almost completely behind the boy and made a downward slash at his side.

Joe watched William and Alek intently, Alek definitely knew his stuff, and William just taught Joe something about fighting, 'You CAN fight dirty if you need to'. Joe kept watching, hoping to learn more so he could maybe use a sword himself one day.

Alek deflected the blow. That was faster than expected, he thought, he hadn't expected Sherman to make such a move to begin with. He managed to block the blow. Alek lashed out, feinting to Sherman's right, then side stepping for a strike at his left. Just as Sherman moved to parry the new attack, Alek changed direction one last time, aiming for the man's chest.

Sherman was surprised at himself. He hadn't fought like this since the war and he was much less tiered then he had expected he would be. But he was still getting winded. 'Trying to keep up with this kid is going to give me a heart attack.' Will thought. As Alek started to maneuver left and right he found it hard to keep track of him. He did manage to see Alek aiming for his chest. There was no way he could get his sword up in time. He frantically searched for an answer. Suddenly an idea stuck him. It was absolutely mad, but 'Eragon's spell was meant to dull our swords. I wonder just how dull they are...' he made a big gamble and simply caught the sword before it could connect with his chest.

That was definitely not legal, not to mention unfair Alek thought. But that was the point. Sherman seemed as surprised as he was that he actually caught the blade. He tried to pull back on the sword, but it was no use, Sherman had it firmly in his grasp. He was done for, suddenly a made idea struck him, and he lunged for Sherman's sword, frantically trying to seize if from him.
