Thane hit the ground and rolled back to his feet, glaring at the Herald as he fled. Samara reached out and grabbed his shoulder, and he started before pulling back into line and opening fire again with the rest of them.

Dromaeus slunk between the ranks of the Chaos warriors, slaying them, crippling them, and disrupting their forces as best he could.

Xanis knelt next to the bleeding Guardian who simply uttered "My life... for the.... Craftworld." succumbing to the wound with a brief sigh of pain. "Dream now Guardian." Xanis said as he removed the dead Eldar's spirit stone from the armour. Xanis cursed his shortsighted decision to engage in this fight, he had failed to see that Chaos would have taken care of the threat for him and now precious Eldar lifeblood had been spilled. "Liliath, Liala end that abomination." The Banshees bowed and charged through the Chaos horde to Mardek, their asks activating and their abhorrent wail shattered the nerves of the lesser warriors and left even the hardened fighters stunned with the nervous system attack. They cut down all before them, their weapons gliding through the Chaos horde like a knife through air as they took life after tainted life as they approached Mardek.

OOC: Don't know why but when I was writing the death of the Guardian a teared up slightly. WTF. His death kind of symbolises the plight of the Eldar better than any story I guess. As for Thermal clips Im not sure why they made the change, from a gameplay perspective I understand completely but I cant remember the explanation they give in the actual lore.

Vincent led Knife down the halls to the room looking over the chip-implanting room. "In there. The people are given chips. It completely changes them..." he explained.

OOC: An author gets attached to his characters when he's worked on them for a while, I guess. For the same reason I'm having a hard time deciding if one of Shepard's team should die in battle, and to a lesser extent, why I didn't want the Normandy shot down again. Some rubbish about how it would make them more effective against Geth shields because it would increase their rate of fire. Improving the strength of the guns would have been far better, and having to wait a little bit longer for the gun to cool, or firing in short bursts like you should do anyway are a small price to pay to avoid running out of clips in the middle of a battle.

Two champions stood before the Banshee sisters and the Chaos army formed a circle around them as they eyed eachother up. Xanis looked on from afar inbetween firing his Shuriken pistol at the warriors. In a flash the Banshees clashed with the champions quickly finding they carried a similar blessing as Mardek which stopped their power weapons from completely shearing through their armour.

OOC: Xanis is admitting he made an error of judgement and so hes going to pull out after the duel with Madrek anyway. Do you know what I read today that really brought tears literally pouring down my face (Jaguar cannot do Space Marines justice at all and this is why)
They shall be my finest warriors,

"Holy shit..." Knife gasps, seeing the chip implantion rooms. "Come one, help me find the cells so we can rescue whoevers here."

"Right." Vincent said, walking towards the door the people were coming from.

As the Chaos warriors continued to assault Preginald's robots, paying no attention to the casualties they suffered at the hands of Shepard and Garrus's teams, Shepard decided to take the Mako to the base. She checked in with each team first.

"Garrus, you guys ok over there?"
"We're doing fine, Commander. Gonna pull back and let the robots and black armoured guys knock metal off of each other for a bit."

"Good stuff. Xanis, are your people doing alright? Need any help? What about you, Team 4?"

Liliath and Liala parried and danced around the chaos brutes scoring hits against them whilt dodging blows coming at them. The jeering Chaos horde bombarded them with insults as they flowed with grace around the clumsy chaos champions.

The Falcon Garv tank spead towards where Xanis had reported his location. The pilot checking all the various sensors and sights constantly. Ulthwe had responded with full replenishments for casualties and 2 Falcon Grav tanks as well as the deadly Fire Prism Grav tank. They had mobilised at a nearby Webway gate and construction of a Webway assembly was underway while the Eldar mustered forces at the gate, having dispatched a tank to extract Xanis and his Warriors.

Xanis recieved a comm signal from Shepard and responded "Its no use Shepard, I did not forsee a Chaos force of this size. I'm holding out for extraction but it may take some time." He fired his pistol at a charging warrior, cutting the tainted human apart.

 

[Random berk]

"You're leaving?" Shepard barked into her comms set as the turret hammered another slug into the horde. She glared through the holoscreen showing the scene in front of the turret. He had a point. The battlefield needed some evening out.

"Enjoying the view up there Joker? How about giving us some damned air support."

"Since you asked so nicely Commander..."

Overhead the Normandy pulled up into a steep climb, out of the storm of flak. At the top of its ascent it slowed, before tumbling and diving straight down. A moment later its underbelly glowed, and lit up with the great beam of the Thanix cannon. The stream of supreheated metal particles cut a gaping wound into the Chaos horde, incinerating hundreds of men and spraying those around them with pellets of metal heated to thousands of degrees. As the Normandy levelled out the beam cut a long line through the black army, then dissipated as the Normandy swept across them at a blinding speed, unleashing its close range GARDIAN weapons system.

OOC: "LET IT COME DOWN!!!"

As Vincent and Knife moved towards the holding cells they failed to notice Gibbins sweep up from behind. Gibbins grabbed Vincent's shoulder and violently tossed him to the ground. As Knife turned to see what the noise was Gibbins delivered a painful uppercut straight to Knife's jaw and tossed him to the ground while he was stunned. Gibbins planted his foot on Vincent's chest and said "And just where do you two think you're going?"

As the soldiers outside the dome began suffering heavy casualties those that remained retreated back into the base, hoping that the Chaos and other attacking forces would weaken each other enough to make the rest easier to pick off later.

"I was taking a little tour. Look around." Vincent said, then drew Cerberus and fired at Gibbins' head.

Gibbins dodged the shot and ran up next to Vincent. "Oh please, you're making me fall asleep here." Gibbins says as he grabs Vincent by the arm, pulls him into a standing position, impacts him in the stomach with his knee, and flips Vincent back onto the ground.

'Its so clean...' That was the thought that he kept coming back to. While the choirs of screams, of moaning sobs and crying filled the air, it was just so...clean.
"It's gonna take two long and attract too much attention if we have to destroy every lock, we sound find a security center, they'd have keys there, or maybe a way to open all the cells at once." He said, before turning around and being upercutted by one of the robots.

"I've lost Guardians Shepard, Eldar are dead now because of my foolishness!" Xanis almost shouted down the comm-link. He calmed down and said "I've recieved word from Ulthwe and I have reinforcements but we must regain the initiative before acting." He kept on firing, all through Xanis speech the high pitched shriek of Shurikens rang out along with missle detonations and the occasional hum of the D-cannon followed by its signature snap.

"Go get the people. And call me this time." Vincent said to Knife, pushing himself up and reloading Cerberus.
He raised the revolver and fired, jumping around Gibbins and shooting as he did so.

 

[Random berk]

Shepard calmed down on hearing the frustration in Xanis's voice.
"I understand. Listen, the Normandy can give the Chaos forces something to worry about better than we can. Why don't you come and help us out inside the base?" As she spoke, Legion set the tank on a course for the breach in the wall, while overhead Joker brought the Normandy into another steep climb, preparing for another devastating air-to-ground attack.

"Oh, and Xanis? I'm sorry about your men. I've lost people due to my decisions in the past as well. I understand how hard it is, but we have a job to do, and we need to see it through."

Gibbins dodged Vincent's shots with grace. As Vincent began to reload Gibbins leaped at him in mid-air. Gibbins grabbed Vincent by the shoulders and threw him down to the floor again, delivering a painful landing kick to Vincent's ribcage.
As Knife turned to leave the Model 3 who was giving Vincent a tour stepped in front of Knife and said, "Oh. You wouldn't be thinking of leaving now would you?"

With the Normandy coming back into view the remaining base defenses began focusing fire upon it.

As the Thanix cannon cut into the Chaos horde again, the ship came under a fresh assault by the base anti air defences.

"Shields at 45%! If you want air support, you're gonna have to work for it Commander!"

Shepard aimed the turret at the base as they sped towards it, and scoped out the heavy guns that were shelling the Normandy.
"Can do, Joker. Hang in there." She fired a shell back at one of the turrets.
