OOC: Right! Time to open up some old wounds...
"Corporal! Wake up!" Royce heard a voice say loudly. He opened his eyes and was greeted with the sunken, brown eyes of Sergent Finn. Glancing to the left he saw saw Lieutenant Arlen as well. He was initially happy to see them, but then he saw the stern look on Finn's face and the cold, calculating gaze of Arlen. "Hey, what's going on guys?" he asked in a friendly manner. Finn glowered at him. "You'll address us as your superiors corporal! Now stand at attention!" he barked. Royce gulped and did so.
Next Arlen spoke in his normal, reserved tone. "Corporal Maine. Would you like to explain what happened in the battle you just took part in?" "I-I was forced into a battle with an opponent with superior equipment and..." he started to say
"Allow me: you WASTED several opportunity to get the upper hand, you hesitated SEVERAL times, and you FAILED to even put up ANY kind of a fight!" Finn shouted at him. Royce cringed, but otherwise tried to stay at attention.
"There is no excuse for a failure of this magnitude." Arlen said in calm, but severe tone.
"I wouldn't even call that a battle! It was an embarrassment! An embarrassment to you, to our team, to the entire Specter program!"
"I hadn't thought I would need to make it this obvious, but when we said we wanted you to become a solider, we wanted you to become a competent soldier."
"Right. So shape up for god's sake!" Finn said as he turned away and stalked into the darkness. Arlen stared at Royce for a moment with his steely eyes, hands clasped tightly behind his back, before turning and beginning to leave. Before he went far he said, "You've disappointed me, Maine. I'd suggest avoiding that in the future." He then disappeared after Finn.
And with that, Royce slowly came back to his senses.
OOC: Man that took a long time to wright. Hope I didn't miss much.
