Nybeth nodded back to Estella. With his walking stick still pointed at the crystal, he chanted, "Now rise once again, o breath of demons buried deep within the ground, bring writhing pain and twisted death!" Casting his Poison Cloud spell, he focused the spell's energy on the crystal in an attempt to get it absorbed by it. Were the crystal to undergo some sort of change that presented a color, such as changing color or glowing, it would be presented as a sickly and unsettling tone of green.

As the crystal aosrbed the Poison Cloud spell, it did indeed change from a neutral white to the tone of green. There was also a feint glow, although this was only visible if one were to look very carefully, as the deck was well iluminated by the magical equivalent of spotlights. Seeing the crystal had aborbed the spell, Estella ordered the crew members responsible for operating the launching system to seal the warhead and load the missile. After it was sealed, they opened a hatch of the launching mechanism, meant for manual loading, and loaded it. A word was then given to stand clear, where upon Estella, her guards and the few crewmen stepped behind a yellow line painted on the deck. Loki followed. After Nybeth stepped behind this line, the all clear was given, where upon the ship's weapons operator traced his hands over a black board, covered in white runic symbols. With a bang, the missile was launched, its flight set to colide with a large jagged rock piercing the surface of the water.

OoC @Drakmorg: How large a radius would the cloud normally have?

Nybeth stepped back and away from the missile as it was sealed and the crew underwent launching procedure, placing himself behind the yellow line with the others. He watched with interest, his gaze glued to the missile as he watched it launch and fly towards its target, not intending to miss its detonation in the slightest.

@Nailik: Normally it's 15ft/4.572 meters in diameter, so 7.5ft/2.286m.

OoC @Drakmorg: *Tries to do math* *Fails* Eh...

Once the missile colided with the rock, the crystal within the warhead detonated as predicted, doing so with enough force to force the warhead open, even if there was no actual explosion. As the poison gas cloud was released, it quickly spread, doing so evenly as there was little wind to disperse the cloud. As the smallest kind of missile had been used, the cloud didn't increase much, reaching only 5.5 meters in diameter.

Nybeth watched the gaseous burst of toxins released into the air. He hummed with displeasure as he noticed the cloud's reach was barely increased by any noticeable measure beyond its normal spread. "Hmm...That will not do. Our purposes require a much greater spread. As it stands, that was barely an improvement, if there was any at all. At this range it is difficult to tell."

"Yes... That was far from satisfactory. For it to have the effect I desire, the spread will need to increase... Eight times, at the absolute least." Loki chimed in.

"Well, this was only the smallest missile at our disposal. But, if the blast radius needs to be that much greater, then it would be best to skip testing if other missiles prove satisfactory, and move on to testing the preformance of bombs. These are meant more for widespread damage, rather then to a single target." Estella remarked as she walked towards the place where the various models of bomb were fastened. Loki looked the various bombs over, noting that the the largest model would be far too large for him to shroud. Instead, he pointed to the third largest one. "That one. I wish to see what results that would yield."

Estella nodded and ordered the crew members to open the bomb, revealing it to be packed with hundreds of crystal, larger then the ones seen in the small missile. These too were white, suggesting they had yet to be charged. "This is the 12,000 lbs bomb. We've used this model on only a few occasions." Estella explained as the crew members attached a regtangular device near the head of the bomb, in the center of which also being a crystal. "Direct your spell at the crystal on that device. It will deliver the energy to each of the seperate crystals." she explained further, pointing towards the device that had just been attached.

"Ah, How properly efficient! I was nearly about to remark how much of an irritating waste of time it would be to deliver a spell unto each individual crystal." Nybeth remarked at the device being attached to the bomb. He pointed his stick at the crystal attached to the bomb and cast his Poison Cloud spell once again, not needing to repeat the incantation as he had already said it recently. "Tell me though, is it simply not possible to obtain larger crystals? Using something as such seems far more practical than large numbers of small crystals."

"Indeed. This invention has made the manufactering these weapons a great deal simpler. Eighty years prior, there would've been mages standing at a essembly line to charge all the crystal individually. A waste of talent." Estella commented at she watched the crystal on the device acquire sickly green colour, but this time, having a much brighter glow, a glow which dimmed as it worked on transferring the energy to each individual crystal. "As for your question, in the case of a missile, or other such weapon meant to take out a single target, rather then cause damage over a area, then yes, a larger crystal is the better choice, it then being more focused. But with a greater number of crystals, the energies are dispersed more."

"I see..." Nybeth muttered to himself as he heard Estella's explanation. "Now that this device has been readied, how shall we go about testing it in a manner to ensure the results are satisfactory?"

OoC: I'm the morning Hatcheh. :3

"It will be lowered into the water, then carried along by a boat until it's a safe distance away. It will then be remotely detonated." As Estella said this, a boat was being lowered into the water, while the bomb was resealed, and then enchanted, making a relatively large runic symbol appear on its side. Once the boat was lowered into the water, the contraption with which it was was refitted so that the plontoon on which the bomb was fixed could be attached and lowered. Once this had been done, the boat began towing it away from the battle ship, sailing to a point where it was a dot in the distance. Once the plontoon was unhooked, and the boat halfway returned to the ship, the sign was given to detonate it, which once again was done by the person operating the weapons of the ship by tracing his hand over a rune covered board.
Although not hearable from the ship, the bomb exploded with a loud whoosh as the gas was released. From the ship, nothing was visible at first, but after a few second, the gas cloud could be seen rising, this time, it reached a radius of 85 meters.

Nybeth watched the boat sail out of sight with less zeal than before, having been disappointed by the previous showing. "Ho ho! A vastly noticeable improvement!" He enthusiastically hooted as he watched the massive cloud burst outward from the point of the explosion. "How far out was that, exactly? I must know in order to properly estimate how truly effective an amplification that was."

Ness calmly took out her contacts, put them into her pocket and deactivated her voice modulator before continuing onward toward Rita. Once they were somewhat close, she'd simply say "Hey."

"Standard procedure for testing explosives this large is twelve kilometers away. But I'll check to make sure." Estella answered Nybeth, then reached for her pendant to contact the crew on the boat. After a few moments, she nodded towards Nybeth. "It was indeed twelve kilometers."

Jessica said nothing as she closely followed behind Ness.

[hr]

Nybeth hummed to himself as he adopted a look of contemplation on his face. "A rough estimate would state that at the very least, that display shows a seventeen-fold increase in the spreading of the spell's effect."

The "hey" was enough to break Rita out of her trance, and with a start she scrambled to her feet. "I said to LEAVE ME ALONE!" Much to Rita's surprise, her outburst was enough to cause a purple pentagram-like symbol to appear on the ground beneath Ness and Jess, the result of Rita having so much mythril and not having a chance to test anything yet. From the portal a horrible wailing would sound as dark energy shot up from it into the sky. The energy would cause Ness and Jess to feel a great amount of pain, enough to cause them to fall unconscious.

OoC: @Dot, @Drak, you guys should have left her alone >_>

Ness, not expecting Rita to freak out like she did, got hit with the full brunt of spell, crying out in pain before falling onto the ground, unconscious.

"That sounds to be an acceptable improvement. Even if it isn't nearly large enough to do the damage I had hoped." Loki chimed in, then turned to Estella. "How many of those devices are there?"

"Fifty to sixty."

Loki hmmd as he produced the map of Fourside he had bought at one point, looking for the best locations to set off the bombs. "This tells me all I need to know about this. Return to the capital."

"Yes sir." Estella answered, reaching for her pendant to contact the captain of the ship.

Jessica was also not expecting outright violent retaliation from Rita just from showing her face, so she was also hit full force by Rita's spell. She collapsed in a heap of agony and fear, briefly whimpering for a few moments before falling completely unconscious.

[hr]

Nybeth had nothing more to say, so he simply remained quiet. He watched the massive cloud of poison off in the horizon slowly blow outward, eventually being harmlessly dispersed by the wind.

"W-what? ...No..." said Rita, tears welling up in her eyes before she turned and fled, thinking that she had killed Ness and Jess. She headed into the mountains, and after some time she threw away her communication pendant, hoping that it would at least stop Tophat from contacting her. After running some more she would collapse, relatively close to the dragon den, where she curled up into a ball for a while.
