Another elf turned to EMily and explained, "We're supposed to take only what is offered to us by the gods. The fruit and leaves and so on. Nothing else. No animals. Taking a life to sustain your own is the worst sin possible. But simply eating food from a source other than the gods is sinful; the gods provide, and by taking food from elsewhere, you're implying you deserve more than what the gods offer."
