"Is that so?" Timea commented, raising her left eyebrow. "Because everything that isn't human has no right to exist and should be purged, yes? Of course they should!" she added after a brief pause, speaking with more irritation in her voice. Another pause, and she let out a "tsk", then said, "I've bothered no one, while you, on the other hand, antagonised two people, myself not included. How telling."

With her spite-laden response finished, Timea blew a mute sigh, uncrossing her arms. At Topaz's words, Timea lightened up a little, and pointed towards him. "Now this is how you talk to people. Thank you, sport~"

Jack glanced at Homer and shrugged. "So we have to go about it the long way? Whatever you're looking for, chief. Just keep in mind the longer we hang about here, the longer it takes to get home. We could always sell something we've got. see if the locals want an amazing motorcycle or the like." Jack laughed. "That'd be an easy way to make some money!"

"I think I have some tender that'll be accepted here. Though as he said, we may have to sell some things."

All the words seemed to fly over Heno's head and all he did was stare blankly at him, and say "... Talking hamster, and glasses!"

Aqua shot Topaz a glare, then looked back to Timea. "Of course not. I thought it was obvious that I'm not human either. But you... I don't even know what you are. I plan on protecti-"

"I can shapeshift too!" Topaz interrupted, then changed into a copy of the cat form that Timea had used previously, except that it was yellow and had Topaz's gem around its front right leg. "Meow."

"Damnit, Topaz!"

Jack watched Heno and the hamster interact. "Scintillating conversation Heno, but if you don't mind focusing on us? We're trying to figure out how to work out enough money to eat today. Got any suggestions that don't involve beating up criminals?"

Timea didn't give another response to Aqua in favour of talking to Topaz. Watching him turn into her wildcat form, she clapped her hands at the display. "None too shabby, I must say!" she said fairly cheerfully. "Though everyone would see through the disguise like this. Your colouring needs work."

Saying that, Timea looked cat-Topaz over some more, and as an afterthought added, "But I have half a mind to assume that's not something you can change... ."

Realising that Heno was probably not a threat, Speedy repeated a quite "Is he not a monster?", then he gathered his thoughts and said "All right. How do they provide food around here? How do we get corn voucher?"

Heno seemed to snap out of his trance when Jack addressed him "I got breakfast from tiny children. They like to help with exercise... I have silver. Enough to get us all on boat... I think" He said digging into his pockets and handing Jack over one hundred silver coins. They obviously weren't pure silver, but were quite high quality with a quite a fair amount of silver.

"Nope, can't change color." Cat-Topaz said. "But you'd be amazed how many people are still dumb enough to fall for it."

"I will not be distracted like this! Now, as I was saying, I... what was I saying?"
"Something about her being the most dangerous creature in existence, probably."
Aqua let out a sigh. "Fine. Just don't try to hurt anyone, and I won't kill you. Sound fair?"

Honest Jack looked at the suddenly handed silver with a face that seemed to jump between excited and disappointed. I didn't even have to scam him... Almost took all the fun out of getting the money...

Jack shook his head. He counted out the silver quickly, demonstrating an almost frightening level of practice counting cash in all its forms quickly. "I think this would be just enough. We'll have to head to a bigger town though. Doubt anyone here would want to part with their boat for this amount. They stake too much of their livelihood on their boats."

"Really? Now this would be something I'd like to see." Timea mused aloud upon hearing Topaz's statement, glancing at the sky a bit distant-mindedly as she pondered how this would go.

She turned her focus back to Aqua when she spoke, needing to look up to look to Aqua's face, she being significantly taller then Timea herself currently was. "We won't be having any problems, then", she stated, giving a small shrug. "I'm the face of non-aggression."

After saying that, Timea looked between the two gems, and not addressing either of them specifically, said, "With that behind us; How do you live? You seem to be solid stone."

Topaz turned back to his normal form. "Only our Gemstones are solid. The rest of our bodies are just an illusion. An illusion that is still solid and functional. It's kinda hard to explain to non-gems."

Aqua threw her arms in the air and turned around in frustration. "I was going to say I don't trust you with that information yet..."

 

[Chungus]

"I could understand that. I won't be explaining what I am, in case you'd think of asking." Timea idly commented after letting out a soft "hmm."

Looking to Topaz, Timea looked him over, her gaze lingering on his gem, and settling on his face. "I never would have guessed." With that said, Timea paused for another short moment, then asked, "Is there any reason in particular you make these illusions human-shaped?"

Jane had another look around the town, looking for a store of some sort.

"Jeez, how does anyone live in this crummy little backwater." Jane said none too quietly, not understanding how a town could function without the things she considered essential.

"That's not exactly reassuring. Just know that I'll be watching you closely."

"We have these as our basic forms because it just feels right, y'know?"

"What he means is that it's the most stable form. Other forms may seem better, but this is both efficient and sustainable. Shapeshifting is always temporary for this reason."

"Oh, I'm sure they manage. Somehow. May not be the most exciting existence though. Hell, we might be the most excitin' thing that came by in a while. We'll be talked about for years I'm sure. The scruffy strangers, wandering into the world in the middle of the night and mostly keeping everyone awake." Jack declared, glancing over to Jane. "So I take it we'll have to knock on a door to get some food? Or should we head straight to the next biggest town? And which way was that town, anyway? You know the direction Robin?"
