"Ah, well, my armour is light. It is just a high-density weave of fibres, heavier armour has alloyed plating on top of this. The rest of my weapons aren't light, and are far from standard issue even in XPOL. Some XPOL agents chose to skip armour all-together and just wear a uniform." Ella paused, then added; "But you're right, in a way. XPOL's budget is similar to that of other police forces, but it is minuscule by comparison."

 

[Chungus]

On the way to the hotel, Kuki listened to Ella and Candace talk with mild interest, but didn't chime in, largely keeping quiet on the way to the shelter.

Montreal: ED Shelter, exterior​

At the shelter, Kuki had Fernand set them down outside.

 

[Gearhead mk2]

"Armour is not much good against magic and gunfire, is it? At least not where I'm from."

 

[Silence]

Lambda would see no genetic or otherwise scientific enhancements on the white woman, but quite powerful magic. If she could determine its style, she would find 'white' or 'holy', and quite powerful summoning magic.

 

[Kirke]

"Well, we do seem to be ahead of you techlogically. Ordinary body armour will stop a low-calibre bullet, mine will stop almost all conventionl weaponry, and some exotic guns as well.

By now the group had reached the hotel. Ella sat down in the lobby.

Oov: off to bed.

Candace also sat down, really wishing she had a cup of tea.

 

[Silence]

- Hotel -​

After she had taken a shower, Anik laid down to take a nap. She had trouble sleeping, rolling around on the bed continuously, but managed to drift off, finally, for a bit.

About 2 hours later​

Anik woke, found her clothes with some trouble (and noticed how torn they were, without her having a replacement). She made her way down, to the lobby, before calling Lambda.

After a few hours of waiting, Lambda picked up the phone. "Hello?"

 

[Silence]

"Hi, this is Anik." Anik said. "I have taken a nap."

Montreal: ED Shelter, lobby​

Staying outside, Kuki stuck close to the wall, and played with the snow that had clumped up nearby. After a moment of this, Kuki began feeling uncomfortable being outside, and scampered into the building. There, moving quickly, Kuki moved towards where Candace sat, slowing down the closer they got to the chair.

Once close by, Kuki stopped, and looked up to Candace.

"Hello"

, they began.

 

[Slenn]

Shana had found some iced tea in the luncheon area of the lobby. She made a cup for herself and Candace.

 

[Gearhead mk2]

"Hello there." Candace replied with a smile.

"Right. I'll head over, shall I?"

 

[Slenn]

Shana delivered an iced tea to Candace.

 

[Chungus]

Montreal: ED Shelter, lobby​

"I've been wondering something about you for a while"

, Kuki said, sitting down. Continuing speaking, Kuki didn't look up to her, to avoid straining their neck, and because they could barely see the features of her face with the height difference, to begin with.

"Did you come to this planet willingly?"

 

[Gearhead mk2]

Candace took the ice tea. "Oh, what is this? Is this tea? I've never seen this kind before." She took a sip, trying to judge it, then looked at Kuki. "No, but I can adjust. For now at least."

 

[Chungus]

Montreal: ED Shelter, lobby​

"Oh? I got the impression you were looking for something, so I assumed you came here for that you came here, specifically to do that. I guess I misinterpreted"

, Kuki commented, musing aloud towards the end of their sentence.

 

[Gearhead mk2]

"I am looking for something, but this trip was unplanned. I still intend to make the most of it." Candace explained.

 

[Chungus]

Montreal: ED Shelter, lobby​

"So I was only partially wrong! So, what you're looking for, then; I think you said something about being a collector of what you call magic? What kind of magic, exactly?"

Kuki questioned.

"And how did you end up coming to this world, anyway, if it was accidental?"

 

[Gearhead mk2]

"Where I'm from at least, magic is not... Not a part of people. It's tied to artifacts and objects from foreign lands. The Ayers house has a long and proud tradition of hunting for magical objects to add to our collection, and I decided to follow it. What the magic does is of no concern, as long as it is not uncontrollable." Candace explained, clearly proud of her heritage.

 

[Furioso]

Raz, who had been sitting around in the lobby, spoke up when he heard talk of magic. "Wait, magic is real where you guys are from? That's awesome!'
