Their suits of armour mostly protected them from the cold - for now - and the lieutenant made sure to act while he could. With one hand he grabbed and primed a grenade. With the other, he activated his radio and said; "Confirmed link between Blue and Forefront. Other side of the portal is very heavily guarded." Looking over at Blue while slowly backing towards the portal, he asked; "What happened to the portal station guards?" The other two troopers noticed what was happening, and also started to back off.

"Don't worry about them, they were brought to safety.
Actually, I will let them go, if you let me and do not try anything else with the portal."
Blue said, then made a sign with her hands. Behind the troopers, the portal seemed to shift - and if they touched the fog, they would notice they could not get back.

The mage who had not done anything for now saw the grenade and cast a fire, that slowly went towards it. "I would not do this." he said.

The giant in ruby armour strode for days at a time, stopping to rest only for a few hours at a time, and never seemed to lack for energy, never wasting time searching for sustenance. He would seem to be driven by some power beyond the energy that a human could muster, and indeed, the heavy thud of his footfall was accompanied by a faint humming emanating from the armoured backpack that vented heat as he went, and from within his heavy plate. He made no other sound, never running short of breath even as the harsh cold lost its teeth, and the lonely wilderness gradually gave way to empty highways, then diminutive villages and on into larger towns. As he went, human life finally began to show itself. The first people he saw were decidedly rural, though they appeared more opulent than some that the giant had seen in the past. He did not stop however, driving further south, continuing his single minded search for unknown quarry.

The lieutenant was silent for a moment, then said; "Fine. Let the guards go home and we wont do anything with your portal." He ignored the other mage, for now.

"Alright. Remember, they were brought to safety, because I was told the portal would be attacked - which it was. Keep that in mind."

A guard further back in the throne room lit a torch, making it visible that there were far more guards and golems stationed in the room. After a short time, the portal room guards were brought out, having white, glowing handcuffs, but seemingly otherwise completely unharmed. They seemed slightly confused.

A few weeks after his materialisation by the Hudson Bay, the ruby armoured giant's long march brought him into the glittering hinterlands of Montreal, and finally into the dormitory cities. As the high rise buildings climbed out of the squat suburban dwellings that he had passed through, he finally paused to rest. Both gauntlets firmly fixed around the haft of his hook bladed hequa staff, he sank to one knee with the butt planted in front of him. Casting his emerald eye'd gaze upwards, he followed the lined of the great pillars of glass and steel. Though it was imperceptible in his bulky armour, a slight shiver ran through him as his mind drifted back to towering crystal monuments of different geometry. Now there were people all around, and they too reminded him of another place, though they too looked... different somehow.

The lieutenant stared coldly at Blue, but didn't say anything. The other two troopers picked up the weapons that had been smacked out of their hands, but simply stowed them away.

"Good point." Zevrisya said, as she moved her eyepatch from one eye to the other. She opened up the eye, revealing a series of sharp, pointed teeth where the eyeball should be. Slowly, a long tongue moved out and wiggled into the air, sniffing for human blood with an enhanced sense of smell.

"Thing aren't like what I've read" he stammered while trying to remain calm, his own senses alert for anything. His eyes darting around absorbing every detail of the surroundings to a meticulous level. Scath eyesight was extremely keen in its observation, able to count the hairs on a mans arm from a mile away

Only a few moments passed before the giant broke out of his reverie, and he rose to his full height of over seven feet once again. As the people passing around him were giving him a wide berth, he strode forward, choosing one at random and raising an expansive hand to force them to stop. Propping his hequa staff against the inner rim of his left pauldron, he undid the seals in his gorget and lifted away his helmet, revealing a handsome face, if over-developed in musculature and bone structure, with nut brown skin, dark eyes, hair cropped close to the scalp, and an ankh tattooed under his left eye. When dealing with ordinary humans, it was generally better to show a more human face. However, this human face would appear drawn and haggard to the detained citizen. It was the eyes that would unnerve a weak heart even more than the giant's size, however. They burned with hatred, but there was grief there too, a vast, freezing void left by some unimaginable loss. When the giant spoke however, his voice was deep, firm and commanding.

"Citizen! I need information!" His gruff exclamation could not be mistaken for a request. "This planet, this city, what is it's name?"

The woman, appearing blonde and in uniform, arrived near the giant some time later, observing him lazily.

The portal guards were brought through the portal, which was once again traversable, and their handcuffs were removed by a mage in white who had followed them.

"I think we are pretty even now."

"Uh... Montreal, on Earth." the random citizen replied, thankfully being an Anglophone.

Hotel, Future

"We just need to find somewhere private to do it, your room should work for that, and then it's basically just chanting and stuff." Yauna told Candace.

Portal Station

"A group of humans just appeared within the building." Zevrisya announced, when her eye-tongue picked up on the scent of their blood.

Terra? Then I am home... The giant's face twitched in what could have been the beginnings of surprise, if he did not suppress his reaction immediately.

"It does not look as I remember it... and you use an archaic name." He remarked to the human. "Montreal is on... which of the continents? And what year is this? What..." He hesitated just a moment. "What millennium is this?" His accent was decidedly exotic, though highly cultured and intellectual.

At this, the giant made little effort to disguise his shock.

"The third millennium? I... I see. Th-thank you, citizen." He replied, his voice momentarily catching. His mind raced. Little wonder that the planet-wide sprawl of the imperial palace had given way to unblemished nature, and ancient urban landscapes. He reached reached the planet of his long-distant birth, and the birth of his people, but so far back in the mists of time... His mind reeled. The person that he spoke to now, this ordinary... (let's say woman) was a citizen of the Golden Age of Technology.

"I could... I would like to access a library. A database. Anywhere that I can carry out some research into... current events." He said to the woman. "Can you possibly direct me to something that I can use?"

The blonde woman approached the giant. "Greetings, I might be able to help you. I am one of the people overseeing the connections to different worlds here. I'm not at my workplace right now, but maybe there is still something for me to do.

Where do you come from?"
