I don't care how old you are, only how smart you are.

However, kids do tend to have really annoying voices and usually haven't learned to control their tone, so unless the words coming out of your mouth are impressive enough to forgive the pitch, my patience will wear.

That and EVERYONE, no matter how smart they are, will look back on themselves and realize what an idiot they were as a kid, therefore we know that kids have a pretty overinflated view of themselves. You're probably not as good or smart as you think you are, you're just full of youthful confidence.

My tip if you want me to like you: find a garage sale or go on ebay and get yourself an old NES and SNES and some good classic games before you become spoiled on all the fancy new features and graphics. They will improve your basics (timing, pattern recognition, memorization, critical thinking, patience, understanding of game conventions) immensely.

QUICK! SOMEONE CALL THE GRAMMAR POLICE!!!

OT:
If you don't want people complaining about you because of your voice then just turn the mic off and use text-chat (Of course this only for PC. Console text is a *****). I'd mute someone regardless of how good they are if their voice annoyed me.

Do Grammar Nazis count? If so, I'm your man XD.

OT: You should blame yourself. You shouldn't be playing a game you're too young for in the first place. I also think you should take the quoted text into consideration, especially since you DON'T HAVE TO PLAY WITH A MICROPHONE!

I don't care if you're underage. It's your parent's job to stop you from playing these games, not mine. A jerk is a jerk, and there's just as many (if not more) adults who fit the "jerk" MO as there are kids.

Good player? Great. Talk into the mic? Great. Plays well with others? Awesome.

And the players who yell at kids...God, they're worse than the kids most of the time.

I'm afraid I have trouble understanding your post, but from what I can gleam I believe that we are on the same metaphorical boat. To avoid being mocked in the future, I recommend commiting the Webster dictionary to memory, lowering your voice's pitch by two octaves, and speaking in a perfectly neutral accent. If all else fails, put your money where your mouth is and excercise your apparently notable abilities. In my experience, nothing quiets dissenters like a peace talk at muzzle velocity.

Also, for the record, this site was probably the wrong place to post this topic, given that the forum consists of 85% trained assholes, 12% militant athiests, 2.6% broken bitter bastards, and .4% decent people.
hahaha i had to laugh at this, and at first glance of these forums, i could almost agree, but there are better people on here than most want to believe =\ sometimes they are just misunderstood which leads to a massive rage of quoting

ot: im not as hateful..just as long as you dont spam the mic having 10 minute conversations (one little bastard in tf2 did that to me the other day, fucker) than i dont care really how old you are, just as long as your there as part of the team/doing good.

First of all, you probably shouldn't be playing whatever game you're playing (guessing Halo or Counter-Strike), second of all, learn to use commas, paragraphs and punctuation.

I actually played a game of Red Orchestra a while back with a 12 year old. He was squeaky but a damn good player and everyone on the team was on his side. It was fun to taunt the other team sayin they just got wrecked by a 12 year old. It was also cool to see him actually working with the team, following orders and calling for support when needed. Still see him on that server sometimes and say Hi.

Hell I played a bunch of TF2 games with my friends kid brother when he was still squeaky and had loads of fun. It's downright embarrasing to receive a PM through steam to turn around right before he stabs me.
A young gamer who is mature beats an immature older gamer every time in my book... Just don't scream into the mic, my ears might bleed.

Look kid, you aren't even supposed to be allowed to play the damn game.

I don't care if you are good, you will never be as good as me and your skill isn't the problem anyways. It's that ear piercing voice.

I will mute you if I dislike the sound of your voice. I am not your friend just because you have the same game as me.
hate to pile on, but basically this... oh and nice use of a grand total of three full stops in that whole paragraph... maybe people hate you because you're not succinct enough...

and for the love of god don't assume absolutely that the only reason people hate you is because you're young and we're not... surely there's been enough evidence so far to the contrary, so try and keep your wildly gesticulating accusations to yourself

I though America didn't enforce the age restrictions? Uh, this gets so confusing.
We do. The stores wouldn't have sold any M rated game to him. Probably got it from his parents.
Of course I don't know if he's in the US or not, his profile doesn't state. Not all high-pitched kids come from the US.

I got into a match with what you in the UK refer to as "chavs".

Good god never before have I felt such a strong urge to strangle someone through the internet.
So what's all the bitching and moaning about people telling minors what they can and can't play if that's what's done already (in relation to the supreme court thing which they discussed on Extra Credits a couple of weeks back)?

And like I said, "oh well". Most people on this site were playing games before they were "old enough".
Oh I don't know. Most likely its this whole "think of the children" bullshit that seems to be sweeping politics right now. And like I said, if a kid gets his hands on a violent game, its the parent's fault. Or they may play it at a friend's house. However each kid is different, and only parents know whats best for their child/children. Which is why politicians and people in power need to shut up about all this "save the children" bullshit.

Eh... so long as you're not annoying I don't give a shit, no matter what age you are. And if you are I'll mute you. And if you still are I'll just leave the game. Problem solved.

Chin up Kid. If they didn't hate you for your voice they'd hate you for something else.

My advice, don't use your headset.

As someone who's voice is actually way too deep for his age, I have to say that the posters in this thread are seriously assholes. I mean as long as he isn't screaming or anything, his voice shouldn't matter that much. And the whole "18+" argument is nonsense. You would NEVER guess I'm under 18 from hearing me talk, by content or intonation, but that doesn't bother anyone when I'm playing.

Grow up.
Bahahahaa! Indeed my friend. I usually don't have an issue with it since I rarely talk outside my party, but those damn "No party chat allowed" servers would make me have to talk to my friends through game chat. Then of course there was always a bunch of guys whining about my damn voice (and I would rarely say more than "kill that chopper gunner!!").

The difference is simple my friends. Just ask yourself the following questions before executing someone for being underage. Are they speaking excessively? Have been excessively swearing? Have they used the words "hax", "noob", "owned", or "rape" repeatedly? If no to those questions then shut up, you can fucking deal with it. If yes to any of them then proceed to mute the little bastard.

everyone quote this man!!! spam his inbox with quotes!

But he says it all, you have to be 17 and up (18 and up in UK) to play M rated games....and for the love of god....dont use the mic.

But once you turn 18 you don't suddenly become more mature, I'll be 17 in a few weeks, does that mean I shouldn't play CoD 'till then?
I think teenagers should only have games like this, if their parents decide they are mature enough for an 18+ game. Also I love sausage rolls.

OT: Why don't you just put on a fake voice and think carefully about what you want to say? And make sure to talk slowly. Failing that just don't use the mic.
With regards to your first question, if we're taking it as a matter of ratings, then no, you shouldn't be able to play COD (or shall we say specifically MW2) until you are 18. Of course, it's not really that simple. Especially in the case of MW2, I think there really is barely any reason for that game to carry an 18 rating. It really was just the airport mission that tipped it over the edge. Though I'm sure for a relatively mature person who's not of an overly sensitive disposition, that staged won't really bother them.

So I would agree, it should be up to the parents to decide whether their offspring can handle the games content (as annoying as that would be for any teenager). The problem being that they often don't think to even look into the game to find out what it's like. It makes you wonder sometimes, like the little kid about 6 I saw in a game shop once, waving a copy of Gears of War 2 around and shouting to his mum how much he wanted the game. How does a kid that age even know what Gears of War is anyway? He must have got the first game for his 4th birthday or something....

I'll be honest here, I just mute everyone most of the time and leave it as that. Avoids any possible issues. Or stick in party chat, if I have mates online.

But, to add actual, y'know, content to the discussion, I'll say this; Back when I was 14, I got Halo 3. It was 16+, so maybe I was a bit too young to be playing it, and I'm a massive hypocrite nowadays, but whatever. I used the mic, and I had a young enough voice. Not too squeaky, but you could tell I was young. I never got abuse for being young however. Not once. Imagine that. Quite odd.

But, I did give some abuse to people who were squeaky and annoying (well, after the older people started giving out), essentially whoever was the stereotype, and unfortunately, the majority. I agreed that they were the most annoying players. And I still do. I can deal with the voice without issue if they are not rude or annoying or twats. But if they are, instant mute (if I haven't bothered muting everyone and am using my mic, that is) or kick. It's the majority that give you kids the bad name, I'm sorry to say.
My suggestion is just be more mature, don't swear like mad, or make loads of jokes, or boss people around. Or, alternately, get friends online and stick to party chat.

(Also, I'm only assuming you're the squeaky type, seeing as no one would know otherwise I'd imagine. That, and the whole grammar thing.)

So yeah, also;
