I only find voices like that annoying when I join a lobby with my friends, say something to them and 99% of the time some squeaky-voiced little bastard will pipe up and start shouting at us for merely existing. The odd thing is that the majority of them don't even realise how high their voice is and seem to not understand that they sound like they're about five years old. They all seem to think they have a voice like John DiMaggio and can instantly pull out the "HIT PUBERTY!" argument despite the fact that they're saying it in a voice so high I wouldn't be surprised if they sang soprano.

Long story short, if you don't bother me, your voice doesn't bother me. I'm still going to mute most other people talking regardless of their vocal range just because I don't want to listen to people speak to each other when I'm trying to enjoy playing a game.

I am so glad my voice wasn't high pitched when I was 13, most people IRL and online can't tell I'm 15 unless I tell them, oh thank chemicals in our food making children reach puberty faster.

Personally, I have gotten to that point of, "oh fuck it" they are here, they are going to play the game, there is not a lot to do, and IF they are that annoying. I will mute them, otherwise who cares? they are just playing for fun, and if they aren't, who are we to judge?

As someone who's voice is actually way too deep for his age, I have to say that the posters in this thread are seriously assholes. I mean as long as he isn't screaming or anything, his voice shouldn't matter that much. And the whole "18+" argument is nonsense. You would NEVER guess I'm under 18 from hearing me talk, by content or intonation, but that doesn't bother anyone when I'm playing.

Grow up.
Actually same here, i have a deeper voice than most people my age, I'm just 17 and people on my favourite server found this out yesterday and were shocked saying they thought i was over 20 and in uni

Look kid, you aren't even supposed to be allowed to play the damn game.

I don't care if you are good, you will never be as good as me and your skill isn't the problem anyways. It's that ear piercing voice.

I will mute you if I dislike the sound of your voice. I am not your friend just because you have the same game as me.
It's fun to quote you for being right!

Oh boy am I gunna get a lot of hate from this one. 1) He never said which games he plays so saying he isnt allowed to play them is wrong. Anyone under 17 is allowed to play an M rated game there is nothing against that. They are not allowed to buy them that is all. It's like smoking anyone underage is allowed to smoke but people are not allowed to provide it to them. 2) You are most likely stereotyping and think only about screaming obnoxious kids. Not to long ago I made a post on a different thread about a similar thing www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/9.231641-Poll-Kids-with-mics?page=3#8118662. 3) A lot of kids try and act calm and civilized but saying you hate them because of their voice well it's not racist but it is some kinda ist word. 4) When I saw this part "I don't care if you are good, you will never be as good as me" I thought you may have just been kidding around about your post but reading further you are kinda just making yourself seem like a very ignorant person. You have never played against him how do you know you are better then him? Just because he is much younger doesn't mean you are better. Ex: That what is he 8 year old that competed in an MLG tournament of halo 3 and did pretty damn well.

I apologize for the random jumping around but I just can't be bothered to edit it properly. I might later if I get bored.

There is a lot of hostile opinions about kids and their use of the mic in games it would seem now. When I were a wee boy there wasn't anything like there is now, infact I didn't own a mic nor did I know anyone who did at that stage. So with that in-mind I ask myself would my generation have been as bad if we did have something similar? quite honestly yes I would think so.

One issue I personaly find in games where you must work as a team is the childs idea of "team" can vary wildly depending on litraly just a few years of mental development. There is also the issue of a grown up taking orders from a child, it doesn't click in our brain that you might be the master of this game, all that clicks is that you are a child, it feels almost instinctive that we should ignore your thoughts or ideas in such a situation.

I am going to be honest, I dislike children on the whole. I find their presence quite intolerable at times. However this doesn't mean I would hate you as a person because you happen to be a child, I wouldn't (unless a reason was given for me to do so). However with all of this I personaly would rarther not have to interact with children in my passtime, where said passtime is a game rated 18+ as an example.

Massive run-on sentence is massive. And painful to read.

Pretty sure the game you're complaining about is rated M. IMO you should even be able to put your hands on it. As for your voice, EVERYONE goes through that. You'll likely make fun of lil kids when you're 17-18 or older. Its a phase, similar to puberty, which is coincidently the reason this is happening.

imagine the following said in a really nasally English accent - ("Are you Scottish? Are you Scottish? You skirt wearing prick! Do you like a roll and sausage?") and the like.
Firstly, roll and sausage = win. Secondly, a guy I was playing with on L4D2 (now a Steamfriend) said something to me along the lines of "I am in *love* with that accent! It's fucking great!" - made my day :')
You're telling me! That's the thing - I've never understood the reasoning behind using a roll and sausage as an insult. I'm also quite partial to a roll and sausage. I also quite enjoy wearing a kilt, so I don't get that one either.

I've got to say to Hairetos though, I'm sorry, but the 18+ "argument" isn't nonsense. I don't know what it is like where you're from, but here the ratings on the games are absolute (or at least they should be). As I said earlier on, there shouldn't be any under 18s on COD and the like.

It's the kids that have the real growing up to do, of course. Come back once you've had a visit from the puberty fairy! :p
But once you turn 18 you don't suddenly become more mature, I'll be 17 in a few weeks, does that mean I shouldn't play CoD 'till then?
I think teenagers should only have games like this, if their parents decide they are mature enough for an 18+ game. Also I love sausage rolls.

OT: Why don't you just put on a fake voice and think carefully about what you want to say? And make sure to talk slowly. Failing that just don't use the mic.

Also, for the record, this site was probably the wrong place to post this topic, given that the forum consists of 85% trained assholes, 12% militant athiests, 2.6% broken bitter bastards, and .4% decent people.
Quiet you, I am busy trying to destroy the religions of the world, I hate everything, but sometimes I donate to kitten-saving charities.

OT: I don't use my mic, the children never usually do much but scream and swear, and the deeper-voiced folks aren't much better, often they're worse. Ah well, I stopped playing multiplayer a long time ago because of the people on it, among other things.

In fact, there isn't any real need to talk; just shoot people, or join a party of friends. It's not like you'll find cooperation from your team-mates.

This. Best reply in the very first one. I feel bad for helping fill the guy's inbox, but he made a very good point.

I don't care that you're butthurt over people giving you crap about the game. You're not supposed to be playing it to begin with.

If your voice ruptures my eardrums, you get muted.

If you're a team killer or a bossy screamer, you get popped, booted, left behind, ect. This would happened to anybody, not just somebody with a voice of a chipmunk.

Seriously, if you're going to play games like these, and you're way to young...

LEAVE THE MIC OFF!!!

Go to the Gordon Freeman school of the silent protagonist. Let people guess. Just type that your mic broke. Quit shooting yourself in the foot.

And for the love of gawd, learn to use a comma.

when I use my mic I am met with such hate towards myself OH I SEE the tone of my voice is what matters not the fact that I am a good player I don't TK no no no It's the voice yes I understand
Well I'm glad that you understand. It doesn't matter if you're LiL Poison [http://lilpoison.com/] himself, if you're a squeaker, I'm kicking you. There's an 11 year old on my Steam friends, he's the son of a guy who I play with regularly. I've played against him in L4D/2 matches (an 18+ game), but because he's got no mic, I'm not constantly being reminded of his age.

Conversely, if you admitted you were 14 on the Escapist servers and then squeaked enough to annoy me, I'd kick you.
Ok fine but answer me this why do you assume that I have a squeaky voice?
Right here bucko-

Being as you brought up the age dispute instead of a racial dispute (i.e. accents), it's clear that you feel discriminated against on an age basis. If you weren't a squeaker, people wouldn't know that you were younger.

I had a long post going in here, but my computer lost it, so here's a shorter one.

The thing is, if the games you are playing (which I'm guessing they are) are MW2, Gears or L4D then I'm sorry, but you shouldn't be there. That's of course no excuse to open up on someone - if it's just the tone of someones voice that annoys me, I'll just mute them - problem solved.

I find it's often the squeaky voiced kids that are quickest to open up with the hackneyed insults - imagine the following said in a really nasally English accent - ("Are you Scottish? Are you Scottish? You skirt wearing prick! Do you like a roll and sausage?") and the like. Not that the older, but often no more mature, gamers are not prone to the same behaviour.

So basically, if you are a kid showing up in game like COD, I'm afraid hostility is going to be coming your way. Just the way things are really. The best solution for now is really just for people to mute everyone they don't want to hear.
