Actually, I've only gotten it on Steam once. I used to get it more often playing on XBL with my roommate.

Steam's one of the nicer places. But girls are just like anyone else. Just because you hear my voice and know I'm female, don't ask me to flash my tits or 'fall in love' with me, whatever that means. I shut off my mic unless I know the people I'm playing with well.

I'm not usually a defeatist but really this is not something you're going to come out on top of.

Here's the universal truths for online "deathmatch" games as i've come to understand them.

If you don't use your mic you aren't playing properly
If you use it you're an annoying "fag" and you'll be told as such.
If you play a scout or a sniper, you're a "Camper" and you'll get made fun of for it.
If you play with the heavy weapons you're "Cheap" and you'll get made fun of for it.
If you're effective in any way with any weapon you'll be told not to use it because it either breaks the game or it's "not how you're supposed to play".
If you don't get enough kills you'll be told to come back when you learn to play.
If you get too many you're a cheater.

As someone who's voice is actually way too deep for his age, I have to say that the posters in this thread are seriously assholes. I mean as long as he isn't screaming or anything, his voice shouldn't matter that much. And the whole "18+" argument is nonsense. You would NEVER guess I'm under 18 from hearing me talk, by content or intonation, but that doesn't bother anyone when I'm playing.

At the end of the day, if the young person in question isn't making a nuisance out of themselves by swearing or attempting to sing to irritate others like I've heard a lot then what exactly is the problem?

I've heard tales of girl games getting the mickey ripped from them as a few nasty egotistical males proclaim themselves to be superior somehow. Someone's voice/gender/age shouldn't be the judge of character, it should be in their style of play and general attitude surely?

I remember playing Resident Evil 5 one day on mercenaries only to have some kid join my game with a deep scottish accent and I heard this one line mid game:

Yes we defend our video games tooth and nail from the media band together to fight that monster but where we truly falter is in our own community ONLINE GAMING. If you haven't told from the writing I am 14 I play online I am a good team player I follow instructions to the T but when I use my mic I am met with such hate towards myself OH I SEE the tone of my voice is what matters not the fact that I am a good player I don't TK no no no It's the voice yes I understand we kids can be pricks online but not all of us you stereotype us as you stereotype nerds gangsters women you hate us because we are young granted we are young but what would you rather have a good 14 year old or a TKing asshole who is 25, 30 or whatever some of you greet us with open arms in games you don't care as long as we play by the rules but others can hate us they can be as cruel as any asshole child on xbox live well.

First things first. Learn some grammar and forum etiquette, maybe then people might pay attention to you. And second, we can make fun of whoever we want online. If you don't want to be harassed by faceless people online, don't play with them, mute them, play organised games. There are many solutions which you choose to neglect.

High pitched voices are generally fairly annoying, at least when they won't shut up, which is unfortunately too many young'ns. Also it's really hard to get them to do anything often. While he claims to be different, everyone is a dick on the internet now and again. No one is really different. 14 year olds just aren't mature enough most of the time to know when to stop.

The problem is all 14 years claim to be better than other 14 year olds, unfortunately on the whole they just aren't mature enough and break down at some point. I understand it can be tough with being heckled constantly but honestly I don't even use my mic that often unless I need to relay data. You don't need to use your mic, not unless you are relaying tactical info only, if you say something and someone calls you out. Don't reply, just keep your talking down to info only and they really can't complain that you're helping.

People are always going to be assholes, unless the animosity of the internet is broken there is currently next to no repercussions for being a total ass on the internet, no one knows who are and getting banned from a single server isn't a big deal in the grand scheme.

If your looking for change then your out of luck until you start changing. I've been playing games forever, when I was 15ish games first starting getting voip and I got the same treatment, so I just stopped using a mic.

Also, godofallu makes a good point, you're technically not supposed to be in most of those games, Teen and Mature so being squeaky doesn't help that people already don't really want you there by merit of your age

You assume I am squeaky voiced really another one. I like the start but my point is this if I didn't use my mic you wouldn't care if I was underage, also I don't play 18+ games ever and if I do never online. Also I can't be on teen games I am 14 I can buy the game so I can play only if I want to. I have been writing replys for a while now but the last bit just infuriated me beyond belief the straw that broke the camels back. I work for the money, I buy a teen game, I play said game online WHY THE FUCK SHOULD I BE DISCRIMINATED FOR PLAYING A TEEN GAME I am not playing the other games but no there is still a problem?
