The only semi-recent game I have is Left 4 Dead 2, and there's always some 12 who thinks he is so much better than all my friends and I. So, naturally, whenever he got vomited on, pounced, ridden, or pummeled by a tank, we just left him to dead.
You could say that we...
LEFT (him) 4 DEAD. TWO.

I'm of the opinion that you don't need a mic to play in a team, but that might be just because I play games for fun instead of being very competitive.

Maybe if all games with mic support put everyone's voice lower the world would be a better place. But I doubt it since when you get that many different people in a room together someone is going to loose it sooner or later.

As someone who's voice is actually way too deep for his age, I have to say that the posters in this thread are seriously assholes. I mean as long as he isn't screaming or anything, his voice shouldn't matter that much. And the whole "18+" argument is nonsense. You would NEVER guess I'm under 18 from hearing me talk, by content or intonation, but that doesn't bother anyone when I'm playing.

Grow up.
What he said, as the same goes for me. I am 15, and sound and come across as 20-ish.

I see where you'r coming from OP although i've never realy had that problem since i had a deep voice at 14/15 & some people thought i was 30 (seriously) lol, and because of that i was acepted alot better than other lads my age.

But now, well even back then if theres some one with and anoying voice especialy if its a squeeky one (who generaly have to much to say, like talking all the time even if it about the game or what ever) Ill just mute them because well basicly it drives me up the wall like nails on a chalk board.

I just wish we had mute buttons in real life

One thing to add if you dont want to be discriminated against go back to old fasiond typing or just keep you talking short & to the point that i can deal with

Edit come to think it i do kinda feel bad.... but oh well

People still make fun of you because of your voice? I'm only a year older than you and nobody has mentioned it to me in years. Perhaps you're just the easiest target?

I'm usually kind to younger gamers. Sure, a lot of them are annoying, but they're still just kids. No need to treat them bad, they just want to enjoy the game, same as I did.

It's not just the voice. You need to chill out. Judging by how you type, you're the kind of kid who says everything in a loud, and possibly bossy way. You get worked up about little things, and don't seem to grasp when something isn't worth mentioning. I don't hate all kids, but I'm annoyed by the ones that either try to boss everyone around or act a little too friendly, joking about every little thing, funny or not funny. "lol i shot u in the balls," or repeating what the in-game characters just said.

Maybe you can try to fix this by starting with only communicating the most important strategies and avoiding anything that sounds too bossy. Try to maintain your inside voice and at least say "please" when asking someone to do whatever you need them to do in the game. Don't get over excited about anything, good or bad.

Also, try to pay attention to how the older guys act. Pick up their sense of humor and stuff, you know? They'll ignore the voice if you still come off as at least a genuinely funny guy.

If you're already a mature acting person trapped in a 14-year-old's body, and there really are just assholes not taking you seriously because of your voice, I don't know what else to say, except that you can at least look forward to getting a deeper voice sometime soon. Puberty does great things.

Of course, that's all a little hard to describe in a verbal environment, but at least I have some more concrete advice for the forums: Use punctuation. It makes everything much easier to read, and is especially useful at The Escapist, where quite a few grammar nazis roam. If you type with capitalization and punctuation, people won't address you here as "Kid," as I see in some comments in this thread.

PS- Sorry for the wall of text. Just trying to give advice, instead of saying "Stop whining, Kid," like some people already are as I type.
This is pretty much what I was going to say.

And to people saying someone "shouldn't" be playing an M rated game at 14, that' a load of crap. That is for his parents to decide. The ratings are a guideline for the parents, not a law to be enforced. At least not yet anyway. I let my 14 year old daughter play lots of M rated games because she has shown me that she's mature enough to handle it and to not take things too seriously.

We're doing the best we can to convince the government that the ratings are enough to keep violent games out of the hands of kids so that government doesn't do it for us. We're trying our damnedest to educate parents and ensure that games for adults are played by adults so Big Brother doesn't take them away from adults. And then the servers are full of CHILDREN, completely undermining our argument.

MS needs to seriously consider putting a blanket age-verification lock on M-rated games played on Live before the Supreme Court takes away our rights as adult gamers. And if parents pass-through the kids, let the law fall where it may.

So OP, put the headset down and go play outside. Or do your homework. Or impregnate some ninth-grade girl so the media has something else to go all Helen Lovejoy about so they forget about games for awhile. Just stop trying to demand respect online.

Look, kid, wise up to the facts that your voice is extremely annoying when people are trying to concentrate on kicking ass.
But, this is only temporary. When your voice cracks, the hate (on your voice, don't get your hopes up) will stop (presumably).

What seriously pisses me off is that on this site you can get put on probation for being perfectly understandable in a few words ("herp low content derp!"), but shit like the OP gets tolerated.

Use some goddamn punctuation, kid. I don't care about your voice. It's your writing that gives me a headache.

Christ could you lot be any more harsh to this poor chap? He claims to be above the norm of teenage idiots who inhabit online gaming with their crass behaviour and language so why not cut him a break? So he's got a high pitched voice..meaning? A guy playing a music system in the background is annoying. An idiot who's talking to other people in the room who has left their headset on and not using it to talk to anybody in the game is silly.

The idiots who do nothing but cuss, swear and generally make a bleep out of themselves, there is your real problem right there. Young or old, come into the realm of online gaming with a smart head on your shoulders and you should be welcomed regardless of voice and other such frivolous things

I've met a few teenagers online who are genuinely polite and well mannered in their ass kicking and don't stoop to derogatory name calling.

If you are a good team player mate as you say you are then good on you. Team work in online games as of late I find is in decline as it seems to be everyone for themselves lately.
yay, I'm gonna quote this guy instead of the other guy (mainly because I am 15) but also because he is going by overused stereotypes :)

The number of people downing on this kid makes me sad. I wish I was cool enough to hate on people for thier voice... seriously all this talk of "ear piercing voices" I must be missing it most of the time when i run into younger people they just have a higher voice. Do you really cringe, ears bleeding when a girl talks to ya tough guy?

Talk about him hitting puberty but it's you that needs to grow up. If you don't like the sound of his voice you're of course well within your rights to mute him. But climbing on your high horse and acting like your hate is justified past anything other than an arbitrary distaste for the octave of somones voice online is complete bullshit.

On the other hand "oh man I'm so high right now" or "i'm so drunk right now"(usually the same guy blastin "Fitty" over his mic). Yeah I get it, your totally chillaxin, fuckin wonderful. The last 20 guys with 420 in thier name didn't have the same thing to say. Maybe I should go on about how much I'm enjoying my soda, and how awsome these dorito's are. Seriously far more obnoxious than the tone of somones voice, and you actually have control over what you say, kid can't really hit 18 any faster.

We've got a couple of components to this problem. First component is young kids, some of which have ambiguous voices (feminine? kid?). The second component is the amount of racist, sexist and homophobic mouth breathers who frequent things like LIVE and PSN. Suddenly you've got these folks (who more oft than not have obvious security issues with their own sexuality) hearing people, and asking themselves "is this a girl? Or is this a young boy?" This thought confuses and frightens them. The confusion and fright make them angry. So they get all hulk smashy.

Internet tough guys, fuck yeah.

OT: IF your voice is annoying, I'll mute you. I don't care if you're good or not. Same goes for older people. If they're acting like douches or their voices are annoying, I'll mute them.

So he is an Internet tough guy because he will mute for the sound of the voice. Which is the same thing you do..............Mr.Pot meet Mr.Kettle.

You shouldn't be allowed to play in matchmaking until you hit puberty. That is all.
Statements like that are why I wonder if there was no laws, would their be humans left. Since most people are self-centered, filled with hate towards things that don't meet their standards, wether it's appearance or just vocal.

Maybe you shouldn't be allowed to play in Matchmaking 'till you get your ass out of your head and stop being a jerkwad like some other sour people who cry over someone's voice.

God knows we can change the depth of are voices at will. (Sarcasam)

I though America didn't enforce the age restrictions? Uh, this gets so confusing.
We do. The stores wouldn't have sold any M rated game to him. Probably got it from his parents.
Of course I don't know if he's in the US or not, his profile doesn't state. Not all high-pitched kids come from the US.

I got into a match with what you in the UK refer to as "chavs".

Good god never before have I felt such a strong urge to strangle someone through the internet.

A. Punctuation is your friend, OP.

B. Really, if you don't like it, don't use your mic. Seriously. This is why I rarely use my mic when I'm on Steam: I used to get a lot of 'tits or gtfo' from people elsewhere. Girls have it just as bad, my squeaky-voiced-teen friend.
