do you have experience with creating games?

- i'm only a gaming student, and i've only made some RPG/FPS/Game Maker(easy programs) games and recently some Flash games (i'm going to start on 3D games next semester), but i can tell you: it's damn hard work! :O

Things required for the vampire game

-moral choice systems that offer a middle ground(or several)
-a quest for acceptance with the humans, and the struggle against a blood addiction.
-a moment in the game where you walk through a hall of burning holy relics to save the one you love.
-nuclear powered stakes
-a sparkling vampire you can impale with said stake
-giant robotic garlic cloves
-areas cut off by running water.
-a machine gun for the stakes

that is all i want

I had a self-proclaimed great idea for a game, however i ran into a bit of a snag when i realized that covering an indefinite number of years(thinking 3000+) day by day from the pov of one person is a bit daunting. Also impossible without 80 different games or watering crap down a lot.

Okay, it's like GTA in space, with robots, STEAMPUNK robots, where all of the structures in the domed city are needlessly complex and begin to resemble woodwind instruments, if woodwind means "metallic and vaguely steampunk", which I'm sure it doesn't.

I will give similar vague details... now:

The main character is Tyrannus Steel, who is of a rare breed: a robot who hunts down faulty or otherwise criminally malfunctioning robots. The thing is, there is a virus spreading through the Stem, tthe domed city on which the game takes place...

More details to come!

I made a group like this.

I say we need to aknowledge the fact that no matter how good this game is. We need to make it better.

I personally am tired of "good" bad guys/"bad" good guys, however you want to look at it. We are vampires in this game. We sold our sould for immortality and godlike power. As a service to RPGs we owe it to this game to have the role be just that - egotistical, power hungry, self-righteous bad asses who look down on the human race. "Good vampires" was played out by the year 2000.
Aye this, no good vampires... however, I have to disagree with the many factions/werewolves/demons thing. That sounds to much like a typical rpg, and face it, grinding away to get rep with many factions is boring...
However, if the game was open world/sandbox or at least had some room to explore, It would be ok if certain areas were considered another vampire's 'territory.' You can pass through claimed territory, but not drink from humans or turn new humans into vampires without risking the wrath of the vampire. If you are respected enough these vampires may back downand join your clan or flee, otherwise you will have to fight to the death.
You gain respect with vampires by building up a large clan; eg by blooding lots of humans. However, the drawback of a large clan is that you may lose control of the vampires, making you more infamous with the humans and more hunted.
Just some ideas.

I think it should have 3 like upgrade rpg type tracks like alpha protocol so you can try doing like stealh, action(hack and slash mixed with over the shoulder shooting),magic like flinging fireballs, and the 4th one can be like focusing on necromancy so the game turns into something like brutal legend where you are a badass in hordes of mindless zombies. I think there should be afew factions that you pick at the start of the game and can't change and never have to grind rep you just gain rep from dialog trees and like if you sign up with the werewolves you might get a spell that turns you into a wolf or maybe lets you summon wolves or gives you a party member that is werewolf, and have your character rise in the ranks of the faction and while he would have a party of the best of the best you could also recruit grunts to do the easier missions for you, kinda like the bridge officer system from star trek online.

ooh me like. Although maybe some of the more oddball ideas (giant robotic garlic cloves?) are best left out.
I'd like to have a clan, and ways of interacting with it. Eg if I want to punish a member, I can pick him up by the neck and throw him into an area of sunlight. Your clan or... even better, your coven, lives in the network of sewers and cave systems beneath the city.

Hmm EDIT: actually no, me no like. Quest for acceptance and struggle with blood addiction? No. Not Twilight the game. You are a stone cold killer. If you deal with humans you are manipulating them into your traps and fuel your bloodlust without any worries. At least, to start with. Perhaps a central character gradually helps you change... but enough of this, I have a game to write.

Ok we need bioware just on the story making a rich detailed universe with its own history characters and main story with many sub plots, but it cant feel like the universe is being forced on to you. it needs a realy solid gameplay aspect may it be FPS or Third person it has to work to the point it can be its own shooter and be enjoyable. no restrictions on you so not assasins creed dont kill civilians just needs to be fun but has consequinces so like GTA police or fallout vigalanteism withought the long term hate. it has to have the halo or crackdown announcer saying things and commenting as part of some form of AI or spirit depending on setting. it also needs a dedicated "Forge mode" stolen from Halo 3 to make stuff you can co online and play on with buddies, maby a entire side plot for co-op maby you are members of a mercenary group or raiders. possibly a online but it must be balanced and not detract form the co-op or single player. Obviously sand box with alot of replayability so not just Mass Effect style "I've finished now what?"
Now all we need is the setting and there are three possibilities:
Future-we are in a glorious future with aluians and such massive fleets many planets and much to do but there is alos crime and a bretrayal plot that takes you on a long journy, say like Mass Effect(especialy the detail) with a bit of grit and black humour.
Post Apocolyptic-Just Fallout but added zombies and bigger.
Fantasy land-Goblins and orks and elves and dwarves the classic J.R.R Tolkin rip off fantasy i mean why not everyones done it lets do it better.
Really quite steriotypical and done before but everythings been done before i cant choose beteween future and post apocolyptic myself.
So can we make that?

Addition: a killer soundtrack with amazing licenced music maby a raidio to choose between stations so meatal like Lamb of God, Slipknot and machine head, or rap like Emminem and ye i dont know many rappers but you get my drift one with daft punk one with rianna or god forbid Ke$ha the idea is variety for everyone, then sone news stations with the with of 3 dawgs, the hillarity of GTA news especialy some Vice City and San Andreas, then the referal back to news you are involved with or will be involved with.

Also vampires fit in some where because every one loves the vampires.

A moral system but not bioshock good or bad and Mass Effect paragon or renegade many ways to go:
Evil
Hero
good guy who nows bad stuff has to happen for good
snooty guy who says something bads going to happen and just says "I told you so insted of helping"

Stealth/ talk out of cirtian situations not all but some must be Thief good not feel tacked on but proper and works, so no Dead Space all the doors are closed kill everything then go.

Good voice acting.

Consequences lot of them.

Not afraid to make a joke ar have a joke at its own expense.

Vampires. The main story is based around the fact that you are a vampire. And it's Bethesda-style sandbox.
Better yet, hire the folks at Piranha Bytes to craft the sandbox world, they make it so much more vivid and beliavable. That my opinion, anyway, and my contribution to the thread.

EDIT: oh, yeah, if we are to have a sandbox world, let's forget the fantasy, post-apocalyptic and modern day settings, they are overused. We should have either a completely alien world, a cyberpunk metroplis or a steampunk state.

Okay, so the game is set in a steampunk America in the 1850 California goldrush. The player is a vampire blacksmith who is practising his blacksmithing trade by making steam shovels and the like for miners. The game will be a mini game collection focusing on forging metal at night and creating steam engines before the sun rises and you turn to dust. There is a good/evil moral choice system set up where you can choose to overcharge for inferior work if you like.

Ive done coding in C++ and C# and I have experience in 3ds Max and Mapzone (Procedural Texture Creator). Basically, I cover bases :p I had made a FPS engine with some models and textures, however I had to prioritize school life and the project died.

Well I would like to see a game that kind of goes along the lines of the Fallout game mechanics, you know limbs can be destroyed, chopped off, you name it. But after awhile I just keep getting a certain nudge in my head that says this can be better... let's make a game where yes the limbs can be destroyed or chopped off but instead of that only happening when you kill the NPC have it happen in certain scenarios for example... shooting someone point blank in the leg with a shotgun... so even though his/her leg has become mutilated he/she may either continue to pursue you by crawling around like a weird amphibious dolphin... or they may just beg for mercy.

Also, try to make it realistic unlike Fallout where if you shot them and killed them their bodies decided to go out with a bang by doing a flip or a barrel-roll.
