We Won't See an Xbox 720 or PS4

The thing to remember before claiming that graphics can't get any better is that we thought that before (at least I did). I never had a problem with the way my N64 looked until I played GameCube for a few years. And until I saw the first 360 footage, I didn't think graphics could get any better than the Xbox.
Predicting the future is hard, hard work, and is ultimately only useful for some interesting forum discussion. No one thought that Nintendo would come up with DS or Wii, and look at how they changed the market. As Henry Ford said, "If I asked my consumers what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse." The Big 3 (and maybe some others) have been hard at work thinking of new console ideas since '06 (or in Microsoft's case, '05.) We'll probably see some teasers in the next year or so, because even if there are no improvements to be made, consoles are so profitable right now that companies will still keep trying for a while before giving up.

Despite the fact that I'm sick of everyone saying that the 360 and PS3 were selling on graphics alone (It's the god damn processing power of the PS3! It gives them more things to work with, do you see developers complaining that they can make the Graphics a wee bit better and then use the rest for AI or rendering?)
A cell processor can make graphics? What?
Yeh, processors can handle graphics. The whole reason you have GPUs (graphical processing units) are to take the load of the CPU, which then can focus on other things (like AI).

As for the actual article, I say that both consoles and PCs are here to stay. Both have their one markets, both have their own appeals, and both have their own disadvantages.

But the cell is not a GPU its a CPU.

Blah blah blah

People always want to be the one who predicted it. Consoles aren't going anywhere. PC gaming isn't going anywhere. Shut up about it.

That isn't what I said though...

This Folding @ Home Client utilizes CUDA to run on GeForce 8 series or later GPU's. This particular screenshot was taken while
running the CUDA Folding @ Home client on a GeForce GTX280. I ran the F@H CPU client alongside the F@H GPU client simultaneously just to get a feel for comparative performance.

The GPU client finished a WU (work unit) in about 30 minutes.
The CPU client, which was run on a Quad core Intel Q6600 at 2.4GHz took about 25 hours to complete one WU (work unit).

Point is Jumplion was talking about the cell and developing games for it.

Run the CPU client on this http://www.top500.org/system/9485 Muhaha
