I'd just kill the first person I saw and harvest their weapon(s) and armor. Then join whoever wishes for my service in battle, for a price.

I'd probably choose the scimitar. I'm not quite sure if it was around in the roman times, but I know that it originated in the Middle East.

My second weapon of choice would be the Mameluke sword.

As for which army I'd join, probaby the Byzantine Empire. I'm in a very Middle Eastern mood recently.

Probably...

Sorry for the size, the page link was broken and I had to use the thumbnail from Google Image Search. This is a falchion (pronounced (I think) Fawl-chyun). Very similar to the scimitar, it has a heavy, forward balanced blade with a stabbing point and a single cutting edge.
...or else...

Yes, that is a fantasy one, but nonetheless, a real glaive would look much like that. Minus the chains. And probably minus the holes in the blade. But still. A glaive is a polearm, generally with a single blade and maybe a stabbing point.

GAH!!! i can't decide
for 2 handed weapons, i'd have to go with either a great axe or a bastard sword/Zweihänder
if i didn't feel like 2 handed sword that day, i'd dual wield axes, sabres/scimitars or katars

You do know that the romans didn't have polearms and whatnot right?
Anyways, I would probably use my future knowledge to build a steam powered auto-axe.
And then I'd build a huge armored machine surrounded by giant auto-axes and fight their puny armies for entertainment... bloody, bloody entertainment not unlike the colluseum.

I'd join the Scottish and use a Scottish claymore. Big, big, pointy, uhh... Able to knock roman cavalry off their horse....
