what was YOUR weirdest reason to not play a game

i cannot play games like fallout or Minecraft because it is overwhelming... there are so many things you can do in the game and i just get overwhelmed by the possibilities i have.

so what are yours?

I have no wierd reasons inparticular, but havign seen your reason for being unable to play games like fallout, i beleive you to be very linear. I don't like games where there is too little possibilities. Like COD. Shoot those people. That's it. Boring. In a statement involving COD, this is an odd thing to bring up, but i enjoy pokemon because i don't have to train any of them if i don't wish to. My team could consist of any combination. Not strictly strong ones. Just ones i like personally. i quite like access to some form of customisation, you see.

The reason I haven't tried WoW is because it's too popular. Although I think that's a valid reason, it probably sounds like a weird reason to not even give it a try.

I'm very open-minded when it comes to games...

...but for the sake of the thread, heres a quote from my friend!

"That's just plain retarded. It doesn't even have guns!"
-when asked about Amnesia:The Dark Descent

Yes, I walk in the presence of idiocy...

One that i know will not stimulate my mind. Im not really into games that dont require a higher-brain function for at least some part of it.

The interface in Mass Effect 2. Mind you that i haven't played the first one so i was new to it all, but there was just something that bugged the hell out of me. I think it might the the way they do not label the menu screen or provide a visual aid so you know where everything is (not talking about holding the players hand, but just an INCH of information would be nice). I couldn't find ANYTHING and they dump endless amount of features on you in the beginning so i end up overwhelmed.

I liked Modern Warfare 2 more than the first one for exactly this reason, it had more customization. Whereas in MW2 you could fine-tune your classes to perfection, with tons of options and combinations, in Modern Warfare 1 it was all just the same, you could not make your own PERSONAL class.

I see. But compared to some other games that still is quite small. I don't see what was stopping them in MW1, though. Sorry if it seems i have a deep hatred for COD, i can accept it's a good game, just not to my taste particularly.

edit: A wierd reason (depending on your opinion) for me not wanting to play some fighting games is because....well. They all seem the same. You only really need one fighting game franchise to follow, to my mind. And for me, that's Soul Calibur. Given that i like customisation, i enjoy the character customisation, and would rather use my custom characters over pre-made ones. It just feels alot more personal.

I tend to do this one more than I should but "I don't think I could spend 80 hours on a game like that." often to RPGs which I like but I'm sort of a gaming completionist and I get mad when I lose interest in a game but still have the urge to complete it. FFXIII is a huge offender since I don't want to have to play for 20 hours just so the game can get good.

True, compared to like pokemon or soul calibur the customization is quite miniscule, but relatively much more compared to its predecessor. I myself am playing Soul Silver at the moment, putting together the perfect team with the best stats and moves is nonetheless a different kind of customization than that of FPS's such as COD.

I refuse to play games where I have to pay for them......

....and then pay for a subscription afterwards to keep playing. (Hehehe, you thought it was about piracy!)
Perfect example for me, DC Universe Online. Game costs $120NZD. Comes with a free thirty day trial. Then you have to pay at least $40 more for at least a month.

Probably the reason I gave for not liking Last Rebellion. "It is too grindy." Which is odd for me because I have tons of patience for grinding in a lot of different types of games. I play WoW, used to play EQ, the Disgaea series, hack and slashes like Diablo 1 & 2, pokemon games (including breeding and EV training for competitive battles), etc. Even the crazy challenges I've wasted so many hours on like getting every character in FF7 to 99 on disc one before leaving Midgar or in BoF 2 when I grinded Ryu in the beginning of the game to level 80 (was going for 99 but got tired of it) and other wastes of time. So for a game to feel too grindy to me kinda means something...

The weirdest reason I have heard someone else give is that a game is "too popular." I just don't see how popularity = never give it a shot.

Hell, I refuse to play Amnesia because I can't fight back. Even when you're the world's frailest wimp you should still be able to fling a chair at the bastards. People can be very dangerous when they're scared shitless...

I remember being 10 and always seeing Turok for N64 in the Video Game section of my local Movie Gallery. To this day I remember hearing my friend talk about how cool it was, making my way to go rent it, than not picking it up due to the raptor being so scary.

This is what I speak of.

Minecraft actually avoids that issue by having you not know anything you can do.

You see that giant CPU or motherboard that guy built and posted on Youtube? Yeah, try getting a fucking sliding door and pressure panel built first, because I haven't bloody worked it out xD

(I know red sand is key to electronic stuff, beyond that I'm lost - and no one tell me! It's all part of the fun.)

And I dunno, I don't really have any strange reasons outside of the regular "there's no way in hell that's for me".

Hmm, not sure if my excuses fall into wierdness or not, but here goes.

I won't play a game if the main thing it's bragging about is graphics. Graphics, very important. However, I feel if too much hype is placed on those, the game can be lacking in story and gameplay. I only play if I hear other things are still good.
