Weirdest way someone has started a conversation with you

More often than not I encounter my daily dose of odd conversations that make me question the friends I keep. Sometimes though I get random lines from random people that are truly beyond comprehension.

For example, yesterday at work I was sharing a mildly lengthy elevator journey with another intern (who I had never spoken to..ever) when he suddenly said: "Hey, did I tell you that my supervisor was going to crochet me an amoeba?"

I had no idea how to respond. What does that even mean?. I was befuddled..but he kept on talking like we were childhood friends. It turned out in the end that it was a case of mistaken identities and we all laughed and he ended up buying me a beer but still..that was one hell of a way to say "hello!"

Anyway..that got me thinking, has anyone here experienced something similar?. Do you have any funny conversation starters that you have heard or said?. If so please enlighten me!.
