Finch watched helplessly as Rachael's eyes closed over for the last time. The snatcher cradled her corpse, silently rocking her back and forth. He stood for a moment, as they all did, watching her.

He turned heel and began to run again, faster then they had before, faster then he had ever ran before in his life. Sweat trickled down his back and his eyes were burning , but still he pouded the path, dust billowing out behind him.

Like Roadrunner he thought deleriously, as the familiar pain of a stitch began to attack his chest.

Audrina watched in horror as Rachael was surrounded by the faceless men, her mind going blank as fear shot through her. Her mind registered someone addressing her, but the words were a mumbled buzz that seemed to wash over her without any meaning. A sharp jerk to her arm woke her from the dazed state as she stumbled behind Finch who had started to pull her along with him. She felt herself fall behind him as he raced ahead, a familiar feeling of abandonment running over her but it was necessary, she would have done the same. She jumped over the fallen branches on the path, her feet catching and tripping her more then once. She kept pushing herself up and starting again, cursing her clumsiness as her feet pounded against the forest floor. Her breathing was labored and she knew she wouldn't be able to continue on much longer but she wasn't ready to be caught. Her hair whipped around her face as she ran and tripped down the path, her heart forever mercilessly pumping against her chest but she kept on down the path.

Val kept running, even when the others turned to look at Rachel's death she just kept running, not even looking back. The dark woods were a challenge to navigate through even with her flashlight. Suddenly she felt her ankle roll Oh no. She felt the ground slam up against her body, in the moments she was disoriented she heard someone run past her, she scramble up and shambled forward a bit. As soon as she placed some pressure on her left foot a pain shot through her foot. She cried out, hobbled a bit and began to gain momentum. I won't let them catch me. Adrenaline began to take control of her body as she soon got back to normal speed, but her eyes burned and vision blurred from the tears forming as a result of the pain.

Must keep going

Forest of Oblivion

Eventually you all arrive in a wide clearing inside the forest. It appears to be set up as a temporary camp site for whatever else passed through this forest.

There are charred marks on the ground from campfires, and logs have been set up in positions that would suggest they were used to sit around the camp fires.

An overall sense of calm flows over you as you enter the clearing. You know it is a safe place

Finch slowed down to a halt at the campsite, breathless and sweaty. He panted and heaved, trying to get his breath back and slow his heart, but it was futile. In the space of 30 seconds he had seen stuff he swore nightmares were made of. Horrific creaures and death were seemingly common in this place.

He looked behind him and saw the others entering the campsite. There was no relief. There was no smile on his face, or on anyone elses. He pulled off dry bark from a nearby tree and placed it on the charred remains of the previous kindling. He lit up a cigarette, dragged heavily, and used the match to start the fire up again. He sat there in silence, quietly puffing away.

Greg entered the camp site, breathless, almost regretting his smoking habit. He felt the sense of calm but didn't trust it, he didn't trust anything here. He kept his wits about him, ready to move again if he had to. He still felt sorrow at the loss of a member of the group, but there'd be time to mourn later, he hoped.
He noticed Finch lighting the wood. "Not a bad idea that" he thought to himself. He walks over and takes a piece of wood and starts turning it into a torch, it would be nice to have a weapon, it seems silver knives won't work, and everything is flammable.
He sat in silence, wrapping a piece of his shirt he tore off around the branch. He stopped for a moment and took out his hip flask and took a drink. He poured some of the whiskey onto the torn piece of shirt. He then held out the flask, offering it to the others.

Val came to the campsite, her head was spinning from the pain, suddenly the adrenaline wore off and the sprain came back with a vengeance, she let out a sharp whelp and fell to the ground. Tear flowed freely know as she clenched her teeth. A pain was beginning to form in her wrist now, probably a strain from when she tried to catch herself. She didn't want to look at her ankle right now, she could feel it was heavy with blood. She needed a drink.
She reached out her hand towards...Greg was it?

"Can I have some please? To take the edge off the pain?"

Suddenly she heard a voice, and shone her flashlight in the direction it came from, but there was nothing. She looked to the other seeing if they had heard it.

Audrina slowed to a walk, her chest heaving as she entered the clearing. Her jaw was tight as she looked around still standing on the edge of the clearing. She had just watched two people die in front of her in less then a day. Her mind was numb and all she wanted to do was sleep. She took a deep breath before walking to a stump where she plopped down. She chewed on her bottom lip and pulled her legs up to her chest, her arms wrapping around them, as she contemplated. The light from the fire danced across her now dull eyes. She always told herself she was tough but this was too much for her to handle, she felt so alone. Her thoughts raced through her brain in a muddled mess, never making an impact on her. Audrina was drained physically and emotionally as she sat there, oblivious to the outside world.

Gregory handed Val the whiskey, he noticed she was wincing in pain. He put his happy face back on.
"Hello, I'm Gregory" he said in an unusually cheery voice. "... I just remembered I already told you that." He grins, with a slight look of embarassment on his face. "Are you alright? Did you hurt yourself?"
He looks up upon hearing the voice, he recognises it.

Rachael, he thinks to himself, she took the knife from me... I must be hearing things.

Gregory tries to hold back the growing stress and fatigue, there'll be plenty of time for all that when he's out of here, or the Snatchers get him.

Rachael stands at the camp entrance. Tears run down her face. Blood covers her clothes.

"Why didn't you save me?" She cries out

A Snatcher appears behind her, its featureless, fleshy smooth face gleaming in the darkness as its clawed hand grabs her and pulls her back screaming into the darkness of the forest

Gregory is frozen on the spot, his jaw having fallen open, his happy smiley self having slipped away. "I-I didn't know... I was running..I I'm so sorry..." Gregory had wanted to get everyone out alive and at this reminder of his failure he slumps down and starts to sob tearfully into his hands. He falls back onto the ground lying on his side quietly sobbing to himself at his inability to help.

But, they would have killed you to, he thinks to himself, and where there is life, there is a chance. He puts on a brave face, putting this moment to the back of his mind to let it catch up later along with all the others. He sits up, wipes his eyes with the butler's handkerchief and stands up. He puts on a weak happy face, one still moist from the fresh tears. The image of that Snatcher, they surely would have caught up by now, they could walk in at any moment.

"Come on", he says in a low voice, "we should go, they might still come. He walks over to the other two "Finch, Audrina, take Val with you." He lights the end of the torch and lights a cigarette with the flame. If I can lead the Snatchers away, after me the others might have a chance of getting out,he thinks to himself. "If I can get them to chase me, you might have a chance at least."

"STAY"

A commanding voice echoes throughout the clearing

"YOU WILL ALL GET A GOOD NIGHTS SLEEP. IN THE MORNING WE WILL TALK"

And as if to prove its point, a golden fire surrounds the clearing, making it impossible to get through

Finch stood up and stretched. His eyes were closing on him, but his mind failed to register sleep.

He walked over to Audrina and let out an exasperated sigh. He sat down beside her and noticed how fragile she looked, how fragile they all looked. Gregory looked like he was hit the hardest, he had drank quite a fair share of the whiksey in his flask. Stubbing out his cigarette he turned to Audrina and offered a weary smile.

"Say ey Audrey. I doub't I'm gonna be falling asleep anytime soon. Emotional shitstorm in here. " he said, pointing to his chest.

"You should get some rest. We've all had a hell of an orientation." he said turning to face her.

The undefined voice broke through the barrier of Audrina's state. She had felt herself slipping as she had only done once before, at her father's funeral. The gold fire ring had brought a sense of calmness along with panic. She knew she was safe in the ring but there was no telling how far they could have gotten if the stop wasn't mandatory. Though she was physically exhausted, her mind was still running a marathon, though now it was back to her calculative self. Finch offered the idea of sleeping and that sounded like a blissful idea but she was scared to close her eyes, scared of what would become of her when she was most vulnerable. "Will ole' Greg be okay in the morning? He's going to have a hell of a headache," she said motioning over to him, ignoring the prior offer. "And what about Val, she's going to be dead weight if we can't get that ankle fixed..." she said turning towards her. "No offense of course but we have to do something."

Val looked at Audrina "hey, I'm tougher than I look, besides I was going to go travelling in rural Asia, I have medical supplies." Val opened her pack and dug out her First aid kit. She popped a few Aspirin with the drink. She then pulled out two small elastic braces, one for ehr hand and one foe the ankle. "I've rolled my ankle while hiking on a mountain in the Dominican before, pretty nasty. I swore to myself I'd bring these babies with me whenever I did something similar." She pulled the splint over her hand, tugging the cardigan back down, all you could see was the edge of the canvas stopping short of her knuckles and thumb joint. She began to take off her boot and sock underneath. Her foot looked look purple and swollen, she rolled up her jeans only exposed more of the swelling. Val whimpered when she looked at it, put dutifully pulled on the foot brace, it hurt because of the tight elastic, but that was the point. when it was on her toes became darker because of the blood being forced into them. Putting her socks and boots back on she motioned to the pack "Anyone else is welcome to whatever I have, it's not a hospital, but it is more equip than most." It had gauze, tape, hydrogen peroxide, thread and needle, bandages. Pretty much anything that wasn't mortal could be treated.

"So um, since you don't seem to be falling asleep anytime soon, mind telling me how you got here?" Val looked at them intensely. She made no reference to Rachel's death, physically or verbally. She barely knew her, and it just didn't seem real yet. The emotions hadn't sunk in, and as far as she knew, these people were a part of what was going on. Rachel gave in...to easily. Finch tried to hard to be jovial. Greg seemed the most normal, but she still didn't feel right about any of them. But should she fake the emotion? What if she was looking too far into it and she was making herself look suspicious? Well if they're real then they'll be too distraught to notice my straight face. Best to ignore Rachel.

The Next Morning

As you wake up from a calming nights rest, you find a man in a pure white monks robe standing in the middle of the clearing.

He was totally bald, no sign of hair anywhere on his face, but he radiated a calming aura about him

When he speaks, it is with a touch of every emotion; Happiness, Love, Sadness, Despair, Hope, etc.

"Good Morning"

Greg wakes up, what rest he got lifted his spirits. He blearily opens his eyes and sees the man standing among them.

"Good morning to you too." Greg chirps in his usually happy mood.
