I pay attention to it sometimes, mostly because it means you're not a complete idiot (ie you haven't been kicked off). You're only a spammer if you get warned etc. by the mods (and you seem to have a badge disproving that).

Otherwise I seem to see a good distribution of peoples opinions at any writing rank on this site. As long as you play the mods game, I'm quite happy to hear you voice your opinion.

Everyone having over 15000 is kinda strange. Seriously, just how much free time do you have? I may have no social life, but i still have other things to do than to post endlessly in forum games and usergroups.
Mnyeh, I keep in contact with people over my mobile, house phone, and facebook, with the occasional email if needed. But generally, the escapist dominates my tabsplosions.

OT: I think that those with high post counts are dedicated, but could be focusing their efforts on something productive, and could do some pretty amazing things, or simply get one heck of a lot more work done than they do.

I respect people for what they actually do, rather than their post count. Hell, my personal favourite users (Khedive Rex, Armitage Shanks and Newclassic, to name a few) have relatively tiny post counts in comparison, but everything they touch turns to gold.

Incidentally, what's gotten up my grill recently is people, particularly older/more well-established users changing their usernames. I mean, I love listening to Cheeze_Pavillion's strawman rants, but who the hell is Time Warp? It just bugs me, is all.

I don't understand why you would consider leaving the site based on what one person said. One person, who sounds like they were an obvious troll.

On topic now, I don't care about my post count. Its just a number after all. I view people with high post counts as people who spend a lot of time in forum games and/or user groups. Not spammers, just people who have a lot to say/contribute. After all, spammers, trolls etc. don't last long enough to get high post counts.

Note: Before we begin, lets keep this as civil as we can, m'kay? No personal attacks on any user, regardless of what ills they may have caused you in the past.

Now, onto the matter at hand.

Now, as I am sure many of you know, there was a bit of a brew-ha-ha over the post count at the start of the year with some unknown user coming out and labelling the people with high post counts as 'borderline spammers', which, I'll admit, pissed me off and made me consider leaving the site as I was one of the people s/he named as 'things that are making this site bad' or some bull-honky like that, which got to me personally.

Now, while that incident was forgotten by many, this has stuck with me for a while and made me wonder the following for a long while. How many of you actually, truly care about the little number counter in the corner when you see other users with a high count like myself?

This also leads me to another question, which is how do the rest of the Escapist see these people who have amassed such a high count in such a short time. Do you label us as spammers? People with no lives? People who need to learn to stop having so much damn spare time? People who need to stop having fun on a serious site?[footnote]This is a joke, by the way. If any of you actually think that, I'll eat my face off.[/footnote] I encourage you to be totally honest on that front, well...not completely honest as I don't want to make a thread responsible for any wrath, but be as honest as the rules allow you to, at least.

So, I ask for you to be totally honest in answering my questions and hope that you can keep this civil and friendly.

Thanks for reading and posting, if you do post.
No poll, as I'd rather get opinions on this, rather then a number next to an option.
well speaking from my semi-experienced viewpoint, the point of a forum is to discuss stuff, so more discussion is generally very good. more viewpoints = a more complete view.

However, the guy you mentioned does have a point regarding the pure volume of posts that people such as yourself have achieved. Put into a monthly amount, you've done over two-thousand posts per, making that at least 80 post a day. That's a lot of posting.

And BTW I do think that this is a serious site. Let the face eating commence.

I have no problem with high post counts in short time periods. I post really slowly, mostly because I don't end up posting most replies I start to write. I think my post history is better for it, but really it doesn't matter. It'll be nice to eventually reach that Morpheus badge, I guess...

Post counts don't really matter to me unless they're under 20 or so, which to be honest makes me less likely to pay any attention to whatever the poster has to say.

They just feel inadequate when looking at looking at your long, hard, proud post count.

Post count doesn't matter to me really, I pay attention to the quality of a persons post, not the number under their picture.

Getting close to 10 000 myself now, and I rarely ever post in user groups or forum games.

I just have a lot of opinions on things I guess. And I get quoted a lot too, which usually means I post more in return. Around half of my posts get quoted, last time I checked.

I do care about the post number but only slightly more than the joined date, avatar (or lack thereof), badges, title, and username. These 6 pieces of information on the left of your comment represent you on this site and they are what separates you from everyone else. Sure they don't come close to telling the whole story but it's like the clothes you wear and your hairstyle and all that IRL. It doesn't mean much at the end of the day but it still means something. That's why I'm raising my post count[footnote]Well, that and the Neo badge[/footnote] and choosing avatars that mean something to me and putting thought into which 4 badges I will show. It's this site's form of grooming so to speak.

Same. It really threw me off when 3.1415 became DiagonalHorizontality.

On a different subject, holy jesus christ, 25,000 posts in 7 months? I mean, I barely leave the house, but JESUS. xD
I know eh? I couldn't do that if I tried. I still remember when he was around 7000. But it shows that he loves this awesome website. Congrats Sassafrass!

I usually just think that people with a high post count have been around for a really long time (until I look at the "joined in" line). I do remained surprise at how some can amass such a large amount of posts in a short amount of time, but there is a lot of traffic on this site, lots of news to comment, games to belittle, etc, so perhaps it's not all that surprising after all. I wouldn't let the "brew-ha-ha" from earlier this year bother you. I certainly don't give it a second thought...

Edit: By the way, Sassafrass, I pay more attention to your awesome, hypnotizing avatar than your post count... =D

It doesn't really matter, I suppose. I will admit that I do kind of boggle at some of the enormously high post counts, but most of the people around here are just great, high count or not.

As long as you contribute and aren't a total jerk, who cares what your count is? :)

Post count really doesn't matter. It just shows you spend allot of time in user groups or forum games. It doesn't mean anything else.

I just wonder how long it may have taken, generally. It varies, though... some people post a lot of things over a short period of time (I was on a ridiculous roll last night), and some people only post now and then, even though they may have been a member for a long time. And @Sassafrass, your avatar is mesmerizing.

Gormourn.
My point exactly!
I don't really think he was anywhere near as well known as someone like Cheeze. Unless you got into a circular argument with him and held a grudge, he was just another perplexingly aggressive poster.

Hell, I only bothered figuring out who he was after he got banned, because I didn't recognise him and he had ~6,000 posts.
What I meant was that with the name change, I can't even tell who's who anymore. Your last post just emphasised my statement.

But Gormourn was a fairly old user so I remember him a lot better than others would.
