You know what? I do like having a big post count. There's no shame in it, having a big post count makes people more open to you and willing to chat. I've made friends simply because of my big post count, people are just more social with big posters for some reason.
Actually, I'd wager that's more to do with your reviews than your post count.
Either way I'm happy it happens.

I think of those who have high post counts as people who enjoy the site. I will proably never get as many posts as Neonbob, Sassfras, Pimpeter2 etc etc. But I still enjoy the site enough to post in it and if others do as well, then let them.

Well this forum is a hell of a lot more mature than most forums I end going on. Usually the people with High Post counts are viewed as "Gods" and anyone with fewer then 50 most people don't talk to (not only that they can't edit until they reach 50 posts). I don't look at the number of forum posts, I look at the person who is typing and ask myself, "Is this person respectful of others or Is this person a snob?" are examples of what I ask myself, I understand that when you have high numbers it can go to your head (Lord knows it happens to me too) but, I appreciate those that can be respectful.

I find it a mildly interesting, verrrrry forgettable piece of trivia...
What does it mean? high count says that userX has spoke a fair share of his mind... On these forums to say the least :p

Those on record or above that I have recognised are actually quite respected by me. From WHAT they say, as opposed to how much they say it.
And I would call it anything BUT spam coming from them...

Just so I'm not labeled a suckup, or whatever it was called in THAT thread.... They also smell!

I like my little number under my avatar but I don't really care what it is. I certainly notice people with high post counts but that's mostly because I recognize their avatars as opposed to their post count.

The post count doesn't matter to me. If I see that someone has a high post count, I just know that they like to get involved in lots of discussions.

<-- I read a fair bit of the forums, but as noted by my low post count, I don't usually get involved in discussion.

Okay, I'll be completely honest here. I kind of care about post count. I'm trying to get to the 5k mark with the epic poster badge. But that's it.

But like Random Argument Man said, it's the quality of the post, not the quantity. So even though I'm trying to reach 5k, I'm doing it with as much effort into each post as possible.

Now for other users, why should I care that they're the highest poster? Should I be offended? Should I praise them like they're bigger than sliced bread [small](which is still really popular to me)[/small]? No. To me they're just posters. Nothing more, nothing less.

A high post count equals two things:

A) They hang around in an active user group

B) They play forum games

I mean I see people with high post counts and it's not like they are in every thread posting 8-9 times. They will give their opinion like any other user.

I can't believe we never found the person who attacked you high posters. I never continued my investigation [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/forums/read/18.167576-So-Who-Committed-This-Heinous-Crime] as I thought it was done and dusted.
You sir are correct, my post count has skyrocketed because of Forum Games, but really who cares. The only things that can ruin this site are spambots and trolls. Honestly if I'm ruining this site for some of you feel free to tell me, just don't expect a response.

Jesus, this took off while I didn't sleep.
Time to dive in and respond to various comments.

I also hate when people with high post counts become celebrities. Being well renowned on this site should be because you have a knack for making good posts, not by how many you have made.
As do I. When I hit the 10K and 20K mark respectively, I was drowned in a bunch of friend requests. Now, I'm not saying nearly all of those where due to the number but I just wonder how many of those actually who added me actually did it due to my posting quality or whether or not they genuinely liked me as a guy they've never met.

Everyone having over 15000 is kinda strange. Seriously, just how much free time do you have? I may have no social life, but i still have other things to do than to post endlessly in forum games and usergroups.

On a whole though - i have met a couple of good people here. I don't care about my post count because i don't strive to be a "forum celebrity" (which is an oxymoron anyway) - i'm too busy talking to people i actually enjoy talking to.
The free time thing, I have a lot of. I only can see mates on weekends and even then I'm lucky to catch one of them. Add no job into this and it being ridiculously hard to find one in England, I spend most of my day here. But I have met some great people here in VaudevillianVeteran, Lambi, Guitar Gamer, Baby Eater and Swollen Goat amongst many more so they are really what keeps me coming back to this site. This is like a more intelligent Facebook for me, minus status updates and forums to post opinions in once in a while.

I don't understand why you would consider leaving the site based on what one person said. One person, who sounds like they were an obvious troll.
A bit of personal gubbins here, I was going through a pretty rough spot at the time with my cousins death so I was exactly thinking rationally at the time.

Personally, I envy you. I have seen that higher post counts garner more respect. I like being respected.
YOU! I wonder where you went after that 'The Cake Is A _______?' thread. But I'm getting distracted, back to the topic at hand. And that is you don't really want the respect a high post count can bring. It tends to be nothing but trouble.
Furburt said:
Anyway, I don't really care much about the post count. I did, back in the day, hence the large post count, but today I can take it or leave it really. It really is just a number, and if you know what to do, it's very easy to make it rise very fast, making it even more meaningless.

I don't really worry about it much anymore. The only time it interests me is when I wonder if Vaude will get a new title when she hits 30,000 posts.
Yeah, I'll admit back when I joined all I was thinking about was whether I could every get a count as high as Neons. But now, it's just a sort of there thing. And yes, it can rise ridiculously easily as mine and yours did over Christmas, Furb.
And I too wonder if Vaude is going to get a new title when she gets to 30K. It'll be interesting to see.

I don't consider any of the high posters to be spammers. I generally find they've been around the block long enough and usually have something worthwhile to say.

Besides, I dare anyone to call BonsaiK a spammer.
BonsaiK is a spammer. *Flees* No, he's not, but BonsaiK is a well known user for his relationship thread. Has he been called a spammer, then?

The only thing that comes to mind is an old saying:
"The flame that burns twice as hot, lasts half as long".
I don't feel any hate towards people with a high post count. I know that one day, they will no longer be here. Just us dim, slow burners...
Yeah, but what about people like Neonbob, Commi and Sas who never get moderated? Surely as long as they keep that up, which they've proved they can do, they could last here indefinitely?
True but one day you may turn to the dark side like MaxTheReaper did
If I turn into another Max, to quote Dr. Cox quoting Daffy Duck: "In the words of Daffy Duck, I demand you shoot me now." That is the last thing I want to happen.

Honestly, I see a fair few people with higher post counts as superior to myself. But I think that's bound to happen, after all this is a community and some form of hierarchy will take place.

I also see the people with the high post count and popularity as the sort of 'elite' Escapists, again superior. I don't know why, it just sort of happens.
I feel like Furburt does about this. I see you as superior over me. Not because of the join date but because your posts are always good and thought out, I've never seen you get into an argument with anyone. Plus you were one of the first users I remember seeing around when I joined up so I sort of just respected you from then on.

I've noticed that Neonbob doesn't seem to post a lot nowadays...
Maybe it will end not with a bang, but with a whisper, no?
*appears in a puff of smoke*
*coughs a lung up*
Okay, showing up in a smoke cloud? Not a good idea.
Anyway!
I've been more present in a few games lately, and I've been in PMs a lot of late.
Fear not, I'm not going anywhere.
Y'know...cuz I knew how important it was for you to know that.

As for the topic...in case you cannot tell, I have nothing against high posters.
It actually makes me smile, as it shows me there are other people out there who share my addiction to this lovely place.

How bizarre, because I actually see people like you as way superior to myself. You know, the higher join date and all. I feel like a noob compared to a lot of the older users on here, and feel in deference to them.
Really? Wow, I have to say this is making for some interesting discussion, this thread. It's almost fascinating to see how differently we see superiority here. But, to be honest, you've been a quality poster since day one. I've been largely inactive at times, and wasn't the most pleasant person to begin with.

Seriously though, thank you for that. It's always nice to get some recognition here. I'm afraid I've had a fair few run-ins with other members though. No arch nemesises though, as of yet...
Even so, I think it's a good thing we both respect each other for different reasons.

This is an awesome responsibility. I promise you I won't mess it up.
And if you fall, I'll get a headshot on you.

I din't d'awww... at that picture at all. You can't prove I did!
Then I saw what the pic is named. I d'awww'd some more. But I once again get distracted by cute things that end in death.
Not at all. I haven't seen any of you run ins with other users. I have had very few and if I have, it was probably some troll of some kind. I don't think I've got any arch nemesis either...
But yeah, I respect people on here for their opinions and posting quality.

Ah yeah...heh, I didn't actually notice. I never thought 'death' could be used in something and still sound cute.
But, thank you. It's nice to be respected for something positive.

I don't particularly care about post numbers, and worry about having too many in the end, since I've seen the attention and mentions high posters get, which I'm not particularly fond of (that is to say, once fame is acquired, suddenly everyone wants to be your friend - it's more than a little disconcerting).

As long as the high post count doesn't consist of one-sentence wonders such as "I haven't played that, and now you know" and "Just remember how awesome I am fellas, in case you forget", I'm quite alright with them.

Also, as long as the poster remains modest. You aren't God of the forums just because you've posted in them the most and everyone knows you. I can't stand uncalled-for elitism.

To me, uncalled-for elitism constitutes of refuting someone else's opinion merely because you feel that, as a veteran of the forums, your opinion is worth more (J. S. Mill wanted plural voting - basically, you get more votes than other people - based on wisdom, with wisdom being rated on property of all things), whilst theirs is well put-together, well-thought out, and intelligent, but because they are new, this obviously means it must automatically be tosh in the face of your more learned opinion.
