I once deleted my save file from FFXII while deciding to randomly start a new game over Christmas break.

It was a 110 hour save file.

My old ps3 broke and I lost ALL saves/achievements..that wasnt a good day. Means I didn't beat a lot of games because I couldnt be bothered to do the first part again.

On Mass Effect 2, I deleted about 6 of my characters I had done a playthrough on because I didn't have a character of the same class, alignment and gender...as well as appearence on Mass Effect 1...I really have some OCD problems sometimes.

Then I decided I wanted to do the game on Insanity (only achievement I don't have on ME2), except I only had a Sentinel on 2nd playthrough on ME2, when what I really wanted was an engineer (cheaper upgrades) and kind of got angry with myself...bearing in mind I must have completed ME2 about, errm...12 times and I deleted 9 of my characters >.<

My first time playing Saint's row 1, I got all the way to the last "mission," but every time I tried to do it, the game froze. I eventually restarted, went through the entire fucking thing again, (not cheating at any point, sucker for achievements that I used to be) got to the last "mission" again, and learned it was nothing more than
a cutscene of a fat guy talking to you on a boat before it blows up, then credits roll. The words "now wait for the next game" are silently shouted at the player as some reporter talks about fatty's final moments.

Perhaps having to start over was the game warning me of a goal not worth fulfilling.

I do this a lot, not has bad has that though. But once I lose a little bit of memory I lose all motivation to continue playing.

Also, the title worked brilliantly.

I'm sorry, man, I was too busy staring in horror. That sucks.

Closest I've come was on the awesome Final Fantasy remake for the GBA. Let a friend borrow it for a couple days, and he saved over my 30-hour-in game. Still have never beaten the gorram game in any form.

An (ex)friend once deleted my complete (as in legally obtained all of them) Blue pokemon. Luckily, my mew was with a (still) friend, who gave it back to me (I had traded so he could finish his pokedex, and he had a few TMs I didn't).
Another time I was close to the black-out screen on pacman, and someone bumped the machine.
It was an old machine, that already made odd noises when activated.
The joystick stopped working.
There was rage.
I'm usually pretty good about my console games though

A long time ago I learned the lesson of saving, you see one summer I spent every single night getting EVERYTHING 100% in Kingdom Hearts on one of my PS2s and EVERYTHING 100% on GTA: Vice City on another PS2 right beside the other. I wasn't saving either game but rather just kept the PS2s running during the day when I was out enjoying my summer... In late August however after 2 and a half months of playing those two games both at about 99% completion we had a massive thunder storm and the power crapped out T_T"

I got to the begining of the crater in FF7 after completing almost all the side quests, many of the ultimate weapons, did that kafuffle with Yuffies family. About the only thing I did not do was to defeat Emerald and Ruby weapon. And saved over it. Yup, redo? F that crap im not!

My boyfriend and I were having a Pokemon compitition so we both dusted off our old cartidges, with him on Crystal and myself on Silver and we were going to battle it out after raising our Pokemon to level 50. I was a little confused with my cartridge however, because time never changed, and the night/day mechanic didn't change. Sure enough the battery was dry and the game deleted itself, but made sure it did so after I made it to level 40+...

Back on my N64 I think it was, in Rogue Squadon I had a completed game and was working on getting all golds. I think I had maybe 4 or 5 left to get and one day for some holiday thing we had my family over, and some of my younger cousins deleted my save file. Even tho there was 2 empty save files. I didn't know till afterwards, and I was so. pissed. off.

I started a new file on Fallout but I just skipped over all the opening stuff by loading an old file since I was making pretty much the same character. Instead of going to Megaton straight off, I decided to explore and put maybe three straight hours into just wondering around the world. Then I had to save and come off it. It wouldn't let me. It. Just. Wouldn't. Let me.
