Wow, I'd have at least contemplated murder. I wouldn't have made that extra step, 10 hours of gameplay versus 25 years of jail time but I'd have certainly had a long thought about it. I'd have just went down stairs and had words.

I was really disappointed when I went over to play FF8 again just how easy it was. It still holds my heart above all others however.
Yeah. It's pretty crazy how much you can break the game by playing cards & junctioning.

In Far Cry 2 (which I regret buying) I almost finished the game (last act, collected every diamond case and jackal tape so far) and I accidentally erased the save.

Haven't touched the game since...

Well it wasn't my fault or a real delete but it did cause me hours of anger. My brother dropped my 360, destroying the hard drive. Fable 2, Mass Effect, Oblivion, Far Cry 2, all lost.

Playing Morrowind on Xbox and getting a 'Dirty Disc Error'

I lost more games to that (both from files being lost AND never wanting to return to the game after losing X+ hours of unsaved gametime) than any other game ever.

I came very close to uninstalling all my rockband songs (over 50). Remind me to never leave my little brother in the same room as my xbox. Also once I lost 4 hours of progress in Fallout 3. I was using autosaves, not bothering the manually save myself. So one day I let my friend start his own file on my xbox. The moment he started it autosaved over my autosave. It was more or less my fault so I can't complain too much.

On Oblivion I've restarted the entire game almost a dozen times; each with anywhere from 30 to 200 hours on it. My pursuit of perfecting my character, combined with periods ranging from a few months to two years without playing, were the causes of this.

I also got Assassin's Creed 2 last Christmas and spent a worrying amount of time playing it until the day after Boxing Day when it froze during an autosave, thereby erasing my save file. I was in a mood with that game almost until New Year.

Edit: Also with Mass Effect where I started all over again after tens of hours because I hadn't played it in well over a year. Then with the new save file it froze and sent me back several hours. Haven't played the game since then, which must be almost a year. I should really complete it, especially as I got Mass Effect 2 today.

I once accidently got rid of over 200 hours of Dragon Age Origins save files when installing win 7...sucked, but at least theres not much of a reason to need to play the ones I already beat.

On the newer ones you have to physically delete your old file before saving over it on a new game. I did not realise this, and I started a new game and was about 2 or so hours in. I go to save...and I cannot.
Oh my god. Same here, cept i knew you had to delete before hand, but i was adamant that they wouldnt change the format of pokemon, being the first game id played since crystal, about an hour in save "saving is impossible" curse my arrgogance
At least you have the new versions...i have a gameboy colour and pokemon red (save dont work) and pokemon silver (my bro has a super save file with a lvl 99 typhlosion) you make a new game, your shit is fucked...good thing my bro told me never to delete the save and stuff.

It wasn't my fault but my gamecube memory card had to be formatted, and it had my ocarina of time, majora's mask and metroid prime 1 and 2 files all 100% complete. My life's been an empty shell since

Teehee, I'm trading in Red Dead tomorow morning.

On Topic: I can't think of a time this has happened to me, at all.

When transporting my Timesplitters 2 to a friends house with the memory card i dropped it in a shallow puddle. Attempted positive thoughts, that didn't work. Lost roughly 50 hours of TS 2, 100 hours of Final Fantasy X.
Another few times as a stupid child i saved over FFVII files, lost a few hundred hours there.

I hate saving over final fantasy saves. o.o

EDIT: Forgot Many a Pokemon save on Gold, which i kept forgetting was broken and when i saved it didn't seem to remember these saves the next time i turned it on. EVER. easily a full day spent, (times i was woefully bored) and you don't want to go back over THOSE parts of pokemon..

Fuck I know that feeling, I had a bit of a fit at an asshole electrician that came to fix another apartment's problems and shut the power of the whole building down for it without informing anyone. I wasn't in the middle of anything big/important, but your PC losing power suddenly can easily screw it up, one of my HDDs died that way (and these days they store a lot of stuff). Not to mention, if I was in a situation like you or worse yet writing up something for uni and lost it... >.<
Oh don't get me wrong, it has happened before. Especially when writing my English coursework creative writing story, or the 120 page Geography coursework. Both of those were wrote during a storm (yay spring!) so a fair chunk was repeated.

Haha, well I'm generally conservative with my emotions, and have a cool head, so it was easy to keep calm. He really was a nice man, just blindingly stupid at times.

I JUST accidentally overwrote my 98% save file on Red Dead Redemption and as you can imagine, I'm a little pissed off at this.

How many of you have done something like this recently? I know a lot of people overwrite save files accidentally, but what was your biggest loss?

My apologies if this has been done before.
How would you even manage something like that? I mean seriously, I always have a bout 10 saves on the go and cycle though them. if I over write one of them I sill have the other 9 which are usually no more than about 20 minutes apart.

I remember due to the "load game option" appearing a few seconds after you fire up duke nukem manhattan on xbla, I played the first level around three times, thinking there must be something I got wrong with the save system, but as far as something major goes, no.

However, I remember with deep rage the day my sister deleted my ape escape 85% complete file...dammit, I was only three medals away from unlocking the last minigame, too...
