One Grand Theft Auto file, since my sister was making her own game and saved over mine.

Several Pokemon files, many of which was where I told the person to NOT delete my file.

King Kong, Grandia, God of War, and Shadow of Colussus after my PS2 memory card put a gun in its mouth.

I had been playing NFSMW for several hours, and my GC froze.

My friend was playing my Red version, he caught a lvl 129 Golbat and saved - my save file was subsequently deleted.

I've had a blackout whilst playing Diablo II: LOD.

I can remember my brother overwriting a save file of mine accidently, although i can't be sure which game.

*sigh* RAGE.

I JUST accidentally overwrote my 98% save file on Red Dead Redemption and as you can imagine, I'm a little pissed off at this.

How many of you have done something like this recently? I know a lot of people overwrite save files accidentally, but what was your biggest loss?

My apologies if this has been done before.

Spent at least 45 hours beating the campaign on BLUR, (New racing game). And was gifted with all the fully upgraded cars from the campaign for usage in multiplayer. Transferred over the data, all progress disappeared.

I had a gameshark that had 8 "Built in memory cards" that my friend "somehow" erased them all. On that Memory card was...

Final Fantasy VII, Final Fantasy VIII, Final Fantasy VI, Final Fantasy V, Final Fantasy Tactics, Xenogears, Suikoden 1 &2, Legend of Dragoon, Parasite Eve 1 & 2, Legend of Legaia, Breath of Fire 3, Mega Man Legends 1 & 2. Brave Fencer Musashi, Armored Core

Many of these games I had sunk many hours into. I still can't play Xenogears or Legend of Legaia because of that, I just get annoyed.

never really did it as an accident, I'm careful of my hours of investment.
However, today I tried some fable 2 again (it had been a long time) only to find out that all my save games were corrupted!!! The state of denial I was in at first was just hilarious, I tried over 10 times to load my save games in the hope I could fix them by: removing the dvd and reinserting it, turning xbox off, installing the game on my xbox etc.
After a while I had to accept that over 50 to 60 hours of work were gone, so I deleted all the files. Since all six slots were taken by corrupted files :'(
i hate to tell you this, but you most likely downloaded some dlc, saved the files, then deleted it.
i did that, and thought my files were corrupted, until i redownloaded the knothole island DLC.
Well fuck me xD, now that you mention it my DLC is gone. But I have no idea how I lost it. I certainly didn't delete it, and I'm quite sure my little brother doesn't know how to do it.

Sega mega drive 2, got really far in the lion king, then my sister bumped into the console, rendering it frozen and useless, it's the most memorable game rage for me, she did indeed cry that day :(

I haven't but my brother and I were playing a lot of the Pokémon red and blue back in the days and he got a Pikachu and wanted it to evolve into a Raichu, he made it 'till level 89 with the bastard but it didn't evolve so he thought he had done something wrong, overwrote the file and begann from the beginning, only to find out the next day that he needed the thunderstone... About 50 hours of gameplay, that's harsh for a 8-year-old!!!

My brother and I were just messing around on each others Pokemon games when we were little (I had Blue and he had Yellow), and somehow, he overwrote my file by accident. I was so pissed off, I had a lv100 Blastoise that could one-hit his lv100 Zapdos. So pissed off.

In the Game "The Thing" based off of the older movies, and perhaps even a novel that I may be unaware of. I made it to the very last level of the game. It was a long struggle and the level before it was brutal for me, I saved the game as the level started and only had 1 health point when I did this. I then find out that there's no health packs or anything of the sort on this last level.

So no matter my best efforts, I am unable to finish the game without starting over because unless I learn and memorize every enemy position to try to do some super stealth mission, I'm screwed.

Yeah it's my fault and probably should have gone back to the level before to try to salvage some medpacks but I do believe this is one of those "Well... Shit..." Moments.

I used to play Phantasy Star Online a lot back on the Dreamcast. One day, while going through the save/quit procedure after a fairly long session, I set my controller down just a tad too forcefully and the VMU popped out. There's a reason why games always say "don't remove the memory card/turn off your system" while saving, and I found out the hard way. The system still shut itself down like normal, but when I turned the DC back on I discovered to my horror that the save for my main lvl. 125 character was corrupted and unplayable.

Something like 200 hours just... gone. I put the game away for good and never played another second of it after that. Come to think of it, I haven't played any MMORPGs since then either. Kinda spoiled the genre as a whole for me. :/
