I don't think the govt. has the right to spy on it's citizens, but just call me a crazy American, I guess.

Why is everyone going all 'fight the power' about something that's come from the newspaper equivalent of say 'HEAT' magazine?
Calm down people.

Military-style spy planes 'to be used to target civilians in the UK'

I read there and stopped. Nothing good has ever come from that source.
Beat me to it.

EDIT: come to think of it, how could we possibly afford something like this? We barely have the money for patrol officers >.<

If this is true, then there's just cause for everyone to get up in arms about it. Whatever happened to innocent until proven guilty?

However, as many before me have mentioned, it's from the Daily Mail...

Can it see through walls? If not I don't see a) how they will be that effective and b) how they are that big of a problem.

Just don't do crime.

Also as people have said, the credibility of the Daily Mail is non-existent.

I don't know why everyone's so against this whole "Big Brother" CCTV thing. I never do anything illegal so I don't care if we're watched. They can watch me as much as they want.

Also wouldn't 1984 be a better choice than V for Vendetta? It's simpler, easily recognizable, and these situations are referred to as "Orwellian."
Yea, but if you're anything like me, then whenever someone says "1984" I immediately think they are some pseudo-intellectual douche-bag trying to sound smart to impress girls.
Then it's a blessing I am nothing like you, isn't it?

Ah, yes, I missed the "Daily Mail" bit at first.

Basically, ignore the story unless it gets reported elsewhere - also apply this rule to "The Sun" and "The Daily Star".

Also, 1984 was a better movie than V. No clue about the books though.

Scary shit. Hopefully it's all just hoax. Or else I'm staying the fuck away from Britain. Don't like the idea of Big Brother watching me. And all these security measures is just barely tackling the symptoms but it's not fixing the root of the problem.
Its the Daily Mail. Its not real news unless you read it elsewhere.

That's British slang for "This is most likely not even based on facts".

As the comedian Russell Howard puts it, the average Daily Mail headline is:
"DON'T GO OUTSIDE! It's full of queers, blacks and crime! Oh, if only Diana were here."

Which shows exactly how seriously that paper should be taken.
I actually missed that part, and instead stopped reading when The Guardian was mentioned.

its only a matter of time before 1984 or V for Vendetta or even Watchmen actually happens for reals and when it does, its only a matter of time before we all end up as backstory for fallout.
1985ReturnsForReal indeed.
I'd be surprised if anyone understood this joke.

So why was the Patriot Act passed?
