Sadly true. I think I just needed a good fight to make me appreciate what articles the Escapist did do. Because if you'd listen to a lot of the guys on this thread, the magazine shouldn't even have done this issue at all, much less an issue that concerns itself with a more well-rounded view of gay gamers.

I've been called a "racist, cock-head, cracker" before, But it doesn't hurt me to be reminded rather violently and offensively that i, indeed, have a penis, or that i am white. I don't care if other people hate that about me.

Life is about dealing with what you are and enjoying that, in spite of the people who hate you for it.
Because white men are so discriminated against. Yeah, life is about dealing with what you are in spite of people who hate you for it. It's a lot easier to do that when, you know, you can walk down a street holding your partner's hand without worrying you'll get beaten. Or making 70 cents to someone else's dollar because of what they have in their pants.
"Or making 70 cents to someone else's dollar because of what they have in their pants. "
Oh please. Feminist as well? Women don't make any less an hour than men do. Women take more days off per year than men do (for obvious reasons), and generally work less hours because they usually take care of the kids. The roles can be reversed quite easily. But i digress i don't want to get off on a tangent...

"It's a lot easier to do that when, you know, you can walk down a street holding your partner's hand without worrying you'll get beaten."

Oh please, you make it sound like the Jews in the ghettos. Have you ever been beaten? I have. I had the shit beat out of me by 4 mexican boys when i was 15 because i was the white kid that answered the teachers questions. Don't preach to me about how oppressed LGBT are. You go to the right place and anyone can be oppressed. Now that i live somewhere where there isn't oppression i have the perspective to understand.

Words are words, if they butt-hurt you then you need to grow some skin and realize that when you wander around this world you will find places where the norm is not you. If you go there you might get jeered at. The so called "world community" that is Live and other online services is just another public group. One that is controlled by mob rule. Its a way of life for all of us. No amount of "equality and respect for others" speeches, or articles is going to change things.

Although just to qualify, i do find the articles interesting, and don't mind their existence. I just don't want anyone to get their hopes up on thinking its going to change anything.

Okay i'm a hardcore christian, imagine every entertainment medium going against something you believe. Every movie has sex, drugs, language and whatnot. Do I care that I'm in no way catered to? not really.
Well, kind of a different story--if you're a hardcore Christian, you're already supposed to be 'in the world, not of it' John 15:19

Let's face it--Hardcore Christians get off on not being catered to by the mainstream: it's just another way of feeling like a martyr.
Si right on with the in the world verse.
I wouldn't say I enjoy not being catered to though, its not fun having every class in school with a professor against your belief system. Or staying away from people at school cause you don't drink, or do drugs. Its just something you deal with though cause it really doesn't matter what other people think as long as your not oppressed/stopped from being what you are.

What exactly are you looking for? I'm sure everyone can come to terms with the fact that lesbian gamers certainly do exist, but does this have some impact on your life? Is your lifestyle going to change because your sexuality was not acknowledged in an online article? Honestly, if the escapist did an article on straight white males who play games I would care just as much about that as the current article, not at all.

I'm not trying to flame or knock/downplay your lifestyle, just trying to understand why it is a big deal. You're a lesbian that plays games.... cool.

Considering that I'm Jewish, that... was possibly an unfortunate comparison.

Uh... huh. You have the perspective to understand? Really? Because white boys? So oppressed. I'm sorry you had a bad experience, but when it comes down to it, in most place white, heterosexual men have the power. And in this particular community (that is to say, the gaming community) they definitely do. I am perfectly willing to keep pointing it out when someone is being racist, sexist and homophobic. Hell, who knows, maybe someone will actually pay attention, and that will be one less person who's being a jackass and intentionally or unintentionally hurting someone because they're different. Clearly the person isn't you, but I wasn't really expecting it to be.

'k, here's the thing

[HEADING=1]NOBODY CARES[/HEADING]

Nobody cares if a woman is a lesbian, cause, quite frankly, it's hot. But gay guys are gross, even to straight women.

Straight men love gay women

Straight women dont love gay men

At least this is the tally from people I've known.
Although totally correct, still it may cause a flamewar. Watchout.

I'm sorry, to think that some people have never been discriminated against in some way is just foolish.

I think I explained it a few times on the front page-- The Escapist did an article about gays in gaming and missed a significant portion of that group. Considering how often women are marginalized in the gaming community in general, I thought it was worth bringing up.

The magazine itself has no real impact on my life. But haven't you ever seen a major flaw in an article or series of articles and been bothered by it?

I got nothing. Ryuutchi, the title is a parody off a television show. The actual purpose of the line was a parody. There is nothing else to be read inside. Sure you might have questions on the content of the issue but really to go to such extremes and acting like the victim does not help understand the reason on why the issue was titles "Queer eye for the Gamer Guy".

So don't play the victim card over you complaining about the reasons why they used a parody title to name this week's issue of The Escapist. This is a video game website built on toys, not women's suffrage or homosexual rights.
... I'm going with "you missed the entire point of this thread, didn't you?" I had no problem with the title of the issue. I had a problem with the content.

I think if they did an artical that involved queer gaming women, I'd watch to know where they got the input to write their artical. If they didn't have any bi, lesbian, or whatever [women] to draw from, then I'd really be skeptical. Maybe they could have addressed that they didn't want to guess about gay women gamers and focus on what they know-- male gamers, rather than ignore us altogether. Still, I wouldn't expect anything ground breaking. I don't even know what I'd talk about. It's so rare my sexuality comes up when I'm throwing down in a game, yaknow? :)

I never really get bothered by anything, I will usually dismiss something and leave it at that. But do you also see the point that other posters were making in the fact that to appease everyone the magazine will systematically have to go through every race and orientation? Yeah maybe they left out lesbian gamers, but they left several others out as well.

Well, that's a little different. Homosexuals don't want to stay away from movies and games with heterosexuals--they just want more representation. In other words, they don't want media to cater to their prohibitions, but to their interests.
And thats fine to want representation, but to expect or demand( or go so far as to label one sexist/racist for not having yet accommodated you) it is a bit much don't you think? IDK maybe I'm just cold hearted about things. lol

Honestly, I don't see a problem with doing issues on other groups. I mean, this issue wasn't about race, so why would they have to deal with race? And think that dealing with at least the major four big orientations (LGBT, anyone?) isn't really that much of a hardship, so I'm not sure why "they'd have to go through every orientation" is such an awful thing. It's not like they haven't written articles on a host of topics.

And all my posts were based on the title of this week's issue. I never said anything about the content...

Please take the time and read your fellow poster's post before you respond.
I'd say the same thing, then, since if you'd read any of my comments, you'd have realized that my beef was not with the title, but with the content. I've never had a problem with the title.
