Hello, I am Azernak0.
I have been thinking about a few moments in games that I have played that really "hit me" and made me realize the power of a potential situation. Modern Warfare has one that is pretty powerful and most everyone knows about it. Modern Warfare 2 actually has something that I find more compelling, as it is so believable.
In MW2, there is a little cut scene before you attack an anti-aircraft weapon. The commander tells his troops that they need to take out the gun so that the helicopters can evacuate the civilians. Every soldier then goes forth and completes the mission. I know I am going to sound like a weird sap, but this is a very powerful moment to me. It made me realize that there are people in the world who would be willing to die to save the lives of people that are not a member of their group and are people that they do not know. It's not powerful because "the cartoon men died!" It is powerful because it speaks about the strength of people in that kind of situation. It made me think "How many soldiers have given up their lives to protect civilians? How many people have died to make the situation for others better?"
So, do you folks have any particular moments where gaming transcended just being a 'game' and become something more personal to you?
Cheers
