I played as all characters for about 20 minutes, before concluding Roland was just far ahead of the others.
Damn that was conclusive.

The fact mordecai gets a bird that can hit and insta kill 8 enemies then recharge in about 15 seconds flat while healing you means nothing?
Even faster if you have that perk that cuts off like half a second for each time you hit an enemy with a sniper bullet
You can get down to a 1 second cooldown with that ability if you max out the predator skill and grab a good Ranger com. Basically, Bloodwing owns.

-No Gamespy
-Better Inventory Management
-Being able to use the fucking mouse to scroll through dialogue instead of the fucking Page Up/Down keys
-A story along the lines of General Knoxx (more cutscenes, enemy banter via radio, and journals)
-More Crimson Lance battles!

just more bad assness, there was never meant to be a great storyline, just objectives to lead you to more guns

Lilith was actually pretty ridiculously overpowered. With the right skill choices, class mod, and an elemental SMG you can dish out DPS that the other classes can only do in their dreams. And you can even spec to have your special ability have a shorter cooldown *and* heal you for a pretty respectable percentage of your total health, effectively making it one of the best "oh shit!" keys out there.

I liked Roland a lot too, but Lilith is definitely better than you give her credit.
Exactly, right skill choices. Eliminating any fun or exploration from it, it's "pick this class or not be good". Bit boring ....

Conclusive enough for me.

Punchy man is suicide (while you have it active it's all good but it running out of juice while you are surrounded ....), run past people is a cowardly and the bird seems more of a get me loot thing.

You don't run past people with Lilith. You either run right behind them or in the middle of a mob of them and unphase.

Seriously, towards the end there were very few fights I couldn't win just by phasewalking the enemy to death.

Except that's true of all of the characters, even your beloved Roland. All four of them have an 'ideal' spec, making all other specs viable at best or intentionally gimping yourself for the sake of theme at worst.

The problem is that the talent trees, and classes in general, aren't particularly fleshed out. Regardless of how you spec, pretty much everything feels very... samey. The only thing that really varies is how much DPS you do, in which case, like I said, each class has an ideal spec.

Or, if you play like me, you run directly at them and just gun down everything in your path in the blink of an eye with your super-charged SMG, never even using your phase ability (except as a heal, which will never happen because nothing will live long enough to retaliate) and leaving behind no survivors.

He becomes somewhat useless in the second playthrough though. Any Mordecai that has specialized solely in using Bloodwing will be destroyed if they try the same tactics in Playthrough 2, the Sniper skill tree is better for 2nd playthrough

Honestly? Something I really wanted was Backstory for each of the Vault Hunters. If they expanded on that for the original characters and for the new ones, I'd be pretty content.

Really needs a better user interface. I mostly played the game in split screen with some friends and it always pissed me off how I could never get a full view of the menus and had to move them around.

Weapon stats should also only compare between weapon classes, not between the weapon you're looking at and the weapon you're currently holding. What the hell is the point of telling me that the sniper rifle I'm looking at has higher damage than the assault rifle I'm holding? If I'm going to replace my assault rifle it'll be with ANOTHER ASSAULT RIFLE.

Also, the launchers need to be not such utter shit. Why is it that when the enemies use launchers they knock down my health instantly, but it takes me 20+ shots to take out a midget when using a rocket launcher?

Ok, I'm going to reply to some other comments first, THEN I'll go say what I want out of borderlands 2.

You clearly never played the Siren, or if you did, you played her wrong.

The phasewalk isn't just a teleport. It also makes an explosion when you enter it and exit it.

So phasewalk is useful for this:
Flanking the enemy while your co-op buddies have their attention.
Retreating if you get into trouble (since the siren is kinda fragile for a close/midrange combat class)
Rapid Area of effect damage (enter phasewalk to make explosion, then immediately melee, causing melee damage and ANOTHER explosion)
If you have the right skills for it, you can stun enemies with it, making them so slow that you can unload an entire magnum clip into their back by the time they've turned around to shoot you.
Getting places fast when your car inevitably explodes.

So yeah, phasewalk is awesome.

Plus, the Siren's class mods boost her elemental damage. Near the end of playthrough 1, I would RUN up to those armored soldiers, spray them with a half-clip of Acid SMG rounds, and then ignore them, because I knew that my heavily boosted acid damage-over-time would kill them within about 3-4 seconds.

and another dude who specializes in a gun that doesn't scale well or ironically is inaccurate (sniper rifle) and hand guns that are useless in every game! (I have yet to find a game with a decent hand gun against assault rifles).
...You realize that his hand gun bonuses ALSO apply to Magnums, Right? And magnums are freakin amazing at close/mid range? I'm about halfway through playthough 2 with some friends, and I'm rolling with two magnums. One fire, one lightning. And they are murder machines.

Also, my friend played a sniper/hunter for a while, and one of his final skills is unbelievably good. It makes his bullets IGNORE SHIELDS. You know those annoying enemies with ridiculously strong shields at the end of the game? He was murdering them like they were stray skags.

What I want out of Borderlands 2

1: I want them to preserve the sense of anarchy that most battles present. My friends and I have gotten into fights with 3 badass elemental skags, badass physhos and tons of random enemies to the point where we didn't even know where some of us were. Those battles that we barely scraped through alive...those were the best. And we've been in TONS of those.

2: More gun variations. The ones we had were nice, but more is always better.

3: More useful skills/classes.

4: Better terrain variety. The desert was starting to get a bit boring by the end...

5: Hopefully they won't upgrade the required specs too much...I still want to be able to run the game on my (pretty good) laptop.

6: And if there's time, make the story more engaging. Oh, and while I LIKED the idea for the twist at the end of Borderlands 1.......They REALLY botched it. The concept was good, but the execution was atrocious.

EDIT: Oh yeah! And a better UI would be nice too.

An actual story is what I'm hoping for.

It's sad when the intro cutscene to your game is where nearly all of your game's story and character background/development are found.

Oh, and an ending that won't make it onto my 'worst game endings of all time' list. That's important too.
Beat me to it.

An ending that isn't complete shiite.

Also perhaps fewer guns but more drastic differences between the effects of the fewer guns. Give us a reason to use one gun or another depending upon the situation. That way we hoard weapons. Borderlands was just an exercise is use whatevers most powerful until you find something even more powerful then use that.
Also beat me to it. I hated that there wasn't a story. And the ending sucked pretty hard.

To distill my complex opinions on what i want in Borderlands 2, i want an improvement.

I also want Gearbox to make sure that game breaking modded guns never make it online. That would be a huge bonus.

The thing that really annoyed me about borderlands, was that you didnt actually get to loot the treasure after you killed that giant squid thingy....

A story worth bothering with... The only reason I could find to play the game was because it's a coop game and I could play it with some friends. Not at one point did any of us find ourselfs interested in any part of the plot, to the point where we stopped caring entirely.

The most disapointing and anti-climatic ending in any game I can recall playing... About half-way trough the battle my character froze in place and I was left just watching, and my 2 remaining friends STILL beat the shit out of the big scary monster without dying once... Most of the bosses we had met before were way more fun and challenging to battle...

The combat was tiring and repetative. After trying the various enchanted guns (not that many variations really...) even new weapons became boring, and nearing the end of the game we STILL used many weapons as much as 10-20 levels lower than our characters in the lack of being provided with new and appealing weaponry to replace them. Did they maybe give us the cool stuff far too soon?... I also found getting money far too easy. Who the heck needs the vault? Each of us had out pockets filled with at least over a million each, surely enough to live like kings for the rest of eternity.

---

In the end the only real plusses I can give this game is an interesting art style (liked that), it having a well implemented and available coop and... Well that's it. Retract "art style" and add "electric machete" and you have the same plusses I gave Dead Island for all it's negatives X3.

Guns. Lots and Lots of Guns. That do different things. Unlike Borderlands which just had 5 flavors of 5 kinds of guns.

Character creation and, pets. By Pets I mean that I want my own Clap-Trap (customizable of course). That's about all I've got though...I didn't really care for the first and will probably pass the second by (says someone who only rented the first to begin with)
