Seems all of it was mentioned already so I'll sum it up:
- better and tighter story
- a higher variety of missions
- less guns but more distinctive (see Unreal Tournament, secondary fire and dual wielding would be huge)
- monster pattern variety (see Serious Sam)
- active skills, something that is actually noticeable would be nice
- an ending for christ sakes an ending

And if they find themselves with some extra time they could throw in a Claptrap companion (sorta like Wheatley) that would give you some extra cometary as you encounter a new interesting places, give some color and spice to the desolate land, even help you out on missions if you buy him new parts, or make fun of you, use voice synthesizers to speak your character name ... (whole sea of opportunity there)

less MMO bull and more story based single player.
That's like saying "I feel like wrestling doesn't have enough philosophical debates".

I want more active skills. I mean, I want a lot of things, including a change of enviroment, dual-wielding and so forth. But I'll settle for more active skills.
If you watched the Golden Age of Wrestling you know there was plenty of philosophical debates.

Written arguements were exchanged for folding chairs. But the spirit was the same.

As previously mentioned, Story.

Overall the characterization and world-building in the first was cohesive and surprisingly effective. I was surprised at how much a game with so few supporting characters -- and characters with so little depth -- genuinely felt like an actual living place. As far as narrative goes though the game is lazy and boring.

The writing and voice-acting was pretty strong for what there was. Marcus was great and most of the villains and npc's were quirky and interesting. I felt the culture references were spot-on without being overbearing and there were plenty of laugh-out-loud moments.

Basically it was a world I was left with the desire to know more about. Despite the many similarities to other games and sci-fi tropes it still managed to establish a unique identity. It's just a pity that Gearbox created this interesting world in which nothing of note really happened.

- More variety in virtually everything (guns/enemies/etc.)
- An actual fucking plot.
- Make the rockets do more damage. They were pathetically weak in the original.
- Create a user interface that isn't so lackluster.
- Create more depth in the combat.

Other than a few more minor things, everything else is fine.

An actual story is what I'm hoping for.

It's sad when the intro cutscene to your game is where nearly all of your game's story and character background/development are found.

Oh, and an ending that won't make it onto my 'worst game endings of all time' list. That's important too.
Beat me to it.

An ending that isn't complete shiite.

Also perhaps fewer guns but more drastic differences between the effects of the fewer guns. Give us a reason to use one gun or another depending upon the situation. That way we hoard weapons. Borderlands was just an exercise is use whatevers most powerful until you find something even more powerful then use that.
I have to agree on the ending, but disagree on the weapon part. Now the ending was the biggest letdown I could imagine in that game and I felt like something was missing. As for the guns I was a hunter and I had one very powerful sniper rifle with 5 bullets in each mag, acid and very slow firing rate useful for quiet assaults when I want to take down single enemies. Then I had a less powerful rifle with high firing rate and about 15 bullets in the mag for those times I had to take down multiple enemies from some range.

You don't need a story if you have enough guns.
I kinda agree with this statement. I want some decent excuse for a story which serves to provide just exhilaration. Mostly I want it to have that unique feel of borderlands that made me one of a few actual borderlands fans. Fucking crazy ass bosses with those awesome title screens. I want those.

I'm going to say a better UI and an actual story. But keep the vast amounts of guns. I really, really liked it.

More music from Cage the Elephant. If they just make a 20-hour sountrack and play it nonstop through the entire game I'll be happy.

I want to be able to play as Brick again, his beserk ability was so much fun. Who needs guns when your fists can literally cause someone's face to explode? ;D

Also I'm hoping for some sort of sequel DLC or chapter to The Zombie Island of Dr Zed (or was it Dr Ned? ... the one with the really fake looking moustache). It was definitely my favorite of the DLC's (which were all good) and I wish for it or another zombie chapter to return to borderlands.

The thing that really annoyed me about borderlands, was that you didnt actually get to loot the treasure after you killed that giant squid thingy....

SPLITSCREEN

that
I want that.
Seriously that made Borderlands for me. So I'll be infinitely disappointed if it isn't included.

Info round-up.

Best quality video of gameplay I could find.

At this point, I think they've added everything I wanted. I mean, suggestions by other people, and acknowledged as being worked on.

Imagine this. You are a gunzerker, that means dual wield. Vladof guns all work like miniguns/chainguns.
So, yeah, dual wielding god damn chain rocket launchers.
What the fuck else do you want?!

I'd like different characters for one, and less of a game where you gotta grind to death to be able to beat the next area.

For those who are arguing that one class was better than others or others were weaker take my word for it all of the classes when leveled, equipped and played correctly were fantastic. It all ends up to personal skill and preferences if you liked one more than others (I have played far with all characters)

For Borderlands 2 I would like

New characters with new skills,
a better / easier weapon comparison menu,
more varied weapons,
more varied landscapes than desert and alien.

and please keep from borderlands one

the humor
the graphics
the overall feel
the combat

but most of all

CLAPTRAP

Preferably less enemies that must have more bullet in them than flesh by the time they die.

Make it moddable. And I don't mean suck-ass god-guns. I mean like Unreal was, back in the day.

Yeah, it'll never happen, but damn, it would be sweet. I still play the first one to this day and would love more stuff to do.
