I'm antisipating how many sequels EA will release for The Sims 3.

The Sims 3: Clothing edition. 25+ items for £20!

Anyone up for a bet?

That they will screw up God of War 3.

That all of the games scheduled for release in '09 are pushed back to '10 (God forbid).
They didn't screw it up on the mobile phone - I think we're in the clear.
True. As soon as I heard God of War mobile, I immediately thought, "Holy Christ we're f***ed"

I also fear that the DLC for Fallout 3 on the PS3 won't come out.
Damn Sony for making me back the wrong race-horse.
The 360 has Fallout 3 DLC.
The Ps3 has God Of War III.

I think its clear who the winner is.
I have both consoles. I think it's clear who the winner is.

My main concern is that Spike TV's video game awards will continue to be the definitive recognition of the industry's accomplishments, to the grave consternation of everyone in the industry. Seriously folks, can't we do better?
hear. hear.

My worries are that the sequelitis that is running rampant right now will hold the industry back creatively and socially. Ghost Busters almost didn't make it because of the idea that the only way to make money in games is by investing in games with sequel potential (which, apparently, Ghost Busters doesn't offer)

How many other great stories and game-play mechanics are doomed to never be because of this.

some scum bag who will get the brilliant idea to make a video game about twilight, i have a bad feeling about it and there is a disturbance in the force also. I kill the person next to me if the day arrives (not seriously though)
you can feel the disturbance too? i thought it was only me...hmm we are well trained in the jedi arts and yes the day twiglight comes out i officially start my underground society and anyone who wants to join is more then welcome seeing as we need a whole society and its only a few people so far.
well i know a fair bunch of haters of that god forsaken movie so along with me and the small army i have you can add a good number to your underground society

There is only one game for me this year and thats

Empire: Total War

I've been waiting for a total war game set in this age since I first played Shogun but I'm terribly afraid that it won't live up to the massive hype I've built up for it.

DRM II will come out, and force you to stick a genetically modified jellyfish up your ass before your are allowed to play the game.

Alan Wake will get delayed, again.

Jagged Alliance 3 will change developer again, and they decide to change it into a first person shooter instead.

Heavy Rain will require a £5000 computer from the future to run smoothly, and still have crappy controls that make it feel like a console port.

Half Life 2: Episode 3 gets delayed into the next century as Valve decides to introduce a 1000 dimensional anti gravity physics engine along with it.

Dawn of War II will be the most unbalanced RTS game ever. As the fastest stealth faction dominates by teleporting everywhere and capping the entire map; and one faction will has some doom fortress that costs nothing at all, but is effectively invincible. As a result Relic is bought by EA games, who then announces they will make Company of Heroes 2 a dumbed down fantasy WWII action game featuring bikini girls with huge tits carrying mini guns.

Hearts of Iron III will be a mess of bugs, and have no AI.

Empires: Total War won't run on my Quad core, 4GB RAM, 8800GTX monolith of 2007.

All FPS games will be about space marines shooting aliens or set in WWII (COD:MW2 will be delayed 'till early Dec at least). All third person shooters will have crappy controls on the PC ported directly from the consoles.

If all of the above happens, I'll give up PC gaming, buy a PS3, and join the Metal Gear Solid, Gran Tourismo, and Final Fantasy fanboy clubs.

Edit: just realised Heavy Rain is PS3 exclusive.....

Mine is that they either A)keep on giving teasers for Bioshock 2 but don't release the game till like '10 OR it does arrive, i eagerly buy the game, and it turns out it got the Sequel Curse, i.e. programmers got lazy and did the same game, but worse.
Agreed, although i'm scared that a)everything that comes out this year will be crappy sequels, or b)all that comes out for the 360 will be DLC.
That is all thats coming to the 360 - PC ports, expansion packs and DLC, and flaming wrecks. What else did you expect?
That's all subject to opinion my good man. Aaaall subject to opinion...

Nintendo will go out of buisness because there games for the Wii suck hard.
In case you hadn't noticed the Wii is by far and away the best selling console of the current generation. I think your fears are unfounded.

If I'm worried about anything gaming related for the year it's that Cursed Mountain is terrible or that it's awesome and nobody buys it.

That people will keep going about piracy like they did with Spore.

Seriously, making the legal version of a game less appealing than the pirated version doesn't help.
Yep, this is exactly why I've effectively quit PC gaming and gone to Xbox 360. I've never pirated a game and yet I've been put off forever, unless the companies can change their ways.

That Alan Wake is a PC port is subject to opinion? That a console RTS will be a massive failure is subject to opinion? That the thing they are stressing more than anything is the Fallout 3, GTA IV and Halo 3 DLC, as opposed to an actual game, is subject to opinion?
Who? The mainstream gaming journalists? Of course that's what they'll focus on. Even if this isn't the best year for the 360 yet, there's still Resi 5 and Halo Wars (which despite your claims, may yet be enjoyable; depends how fussy you are about RTS's) and a few other games that haven't been announced yet. Plus the back catalogue of games I haven't got round to buying yet (Banjo Kazooie, Fallout 3, FEAR, GRID, Vegas 2 and many more) are going to give me a year of enjoyment alone You do like to focus on the negatives a lot, don't you Mr Dingo? Try all you like, but I'm not going to regret my choice of console, and i hope you don't either. It's good to see Sony finally giving some decent competition (if all goes to plan, with all PS3 exclusives being as good as hoped and no more closures in the gaming industry).

I suppose my biggest worry for the year is not the teaming amount of sequels ( I enjoy the odd game of Burnout Paradise after all) or even lack of exclusives, but the state of the economy, and how it will effect the games I look forward to. It could effect any of us after all (except probably Nintendo itself) so we'll have to see.
