I've been wanting to get into the RTS genre for a while, and I wanted to see what the top picks were over here at the Escapist. The only ones I've liked have been Age of Mythology and Age of Empires, and Supreme Commander, which I loved.

Right, I have to say I personally love the Dawn of War series, probably my favourite RTS series so far. I'd love to get Halo Wars too, and Age of Empires is good. Rome Total War is also on my list. However, I would also have to give an honourable mention to Total Annihilation. Yep, retro gaming is just awesome, and who doesn't love playing an RTS as a crazy kickass robot with a disintegrator gun?

I gotta say, I love World in Conflict, thoroughly enjoyed Dawn of War, and also enjoyed the Company of Heroes demo I played.

Company of Heroes, Supreme Commander, Sins of a Solar Empire, and sometimes Warcraft/Starcraft.

Edit: Thanks stompy, I'd forgotten about World in Conflict. Another good one.

Empire at War hands down. You have the large scale Ship to ship battles and a battle cam to watch it as if it were a movie.

This, Starcraft, and C&C Generals. Generals is like a Starcraft/Warcraft game set in modern times... and is a lot easier.

This. Battle.net and the variations people have made of it are amazing.
Also, Kingdom under Fire. How I love that game! And it's soundtrack

Supreme Commander hands down for me. The first RTS ever that allowed me the level of control I wanted on the battlefield. That, and skyscraper sized spider robots with gigantic laser hoses of death.
