Well the title is pretty self explanatory, post your top 5 Asian films.

1. Oldboy
2. Battle Royale
3. Audition
4. Ringu
5. Ichi the Killer

Honorable mention: I Saw The Devil, amazing movie.

One that's on my list to see is A Bittersweet Life, but they don't have it on Netflix :(

I'm not much of a connoisseur(thank you spellcheck) when it comes to movies in general, and foreign films escape me. I'll see about looking into these movies next chance I get, I'm sure they're quite good.

I don't know that I can go all the way to five, but

1) Ikiru (Akira Kurasawa)
2) Mushishi (Katsuhiro Otomo)
3) Akira Kurasawa's Dreams (Akira Kurasawa again)

Ikiru is just a plain old fashioned good story, told by a brilliant director working with top notch actors. It's touching and beautiful, and it's the kind of film that will move you to tears.

Mushishi was a live action adaptation of the Manga/Anime (whose main character can be seen in my avatar). It's directed by Katsuhiro Otomo, who is best known for writing the manga and then writing and directing the film Akira. The scenery is breathtaking, the characters are lovable, and the plot, while sometimes a little cryptic, draws you in and keeps you interested.

And Dreams is another of Kurasawa's films, this one actually eight short films in a compilation. I can't say they all spoke to me, but they've all got something to offer, there's a lot of beauty, many interesting stories, and the final film depicts what I'm relatively certain is as close to my idea of heaven as it would be possible to get.

Really, pick any five movies by Hayao Miyazaki.

In no particular order:
Nausicaa and the Valley of the Wind
Laputa: Castle In The Sky
Kiki's Delivery Service
Princess Mononoke
Sprited Away

All great movies. I suppose Akira is number six.

My favourites would be somewhat in the order below:

Oldboy
A Bittersweet Life
Spring, Summer, Fall, Winter... and Spring
Spirited Away
Memories of Murder

The 5th was really a choice between Memories of Murder and My Neighbour Totoro. I chose the former, because it's the one I saw most recently and because of that, stands out more clearly in my mind.

Definitely find some way to see A Bittersweet Life, it's an amazing movie, there's reason it's second on my list. Lee Byung-hun, the lead actor plays his role really well.

Paprika... The Girl Who Leapt Through Time... Summer Wars...

Erm... The earlier Doraemon movies are pretty fun...

Despite being Japanese, I have not seen many memorable films

Does anime count? If so then my picks would probably be mostly anime so in that case.... I'll go with no :3

Seven Samurai
Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance
Harakiri
Shall We Dance? (You shut up, I like that movie)
Cure

And if anime goes, then I'll say Grave of the Fireflies and Metropolis goes there too.

I can't really tell you, I haven't seen many that I truly liked. I did love all of Tony Jaa's fighting movies (they were fucking awesome).

To be honest, I thought Oldboy was overrated. It's not that I didn't like it because of it's depressing turn of events towards the end, I just thought it was poorly made and rather hard to follow.

Oh yeah, and I thought that Ruroni Kenshin origins story movie was pretty bad ass.

Without using any animes films-

1 Project A
2 Hero
3 My Sassy Girl
4 Internal Affair
5 Shaolin Soccer

Also I would like to mention Oldboy, Ong Bac, Kung Fu Hustle and Battle Royale.

Have you seen I Saw The Devil? Lee Byung-hun plays the main part while Choi Min-sik plays the bad guy. That movie is just, amazing.

Choose 5 of the Studio Ghibli films and chances are I like it.

Note that even though I'm Korean, I don't really watch Korean films. Yes I have seen The Host[sub]direct translation is actually 'Monster'[/sub] and yes I know of Oldboy. Not allowed to watch it >.>

Why aren't you allowed to watch Oldboy?

Parent's don't allow me; apparently it's too 'gruesome.' I haven't seen it but I somewhat agree, even though I've seen Saving Private Ryan and the Lawnmower scene from Dead Alive/Braindead.
