I already added it to my Netflix DVD queue :). Have you seen this Korean flick called Mother?
Good to hear, I think you'll like it. I haven't Mother, is it any good? But keep the recommendations coming, with a lot of the movies I've seen mentioned in this thread that I haven't watched, I'll have to do a movie day/evening just to catch up. It will be awesome!

I thought Mother was quite awesome. It's like a drama/thriller movie. Yojimbo is also a really good Japanese movie. I actually just got done watching Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance right now, holy crap, that was an amazing movie.

Mother and Yojimbo, check. Those two and I Saw the Devil will be on my list. That should be a good evening.

Yea, Mr. Vengeance is quite awesome as well, in fact the whole Vengeance trilogy is worth it, though my favourite is Oldboy by far.

I liked Judgment(spelled that way) as well, one of his early shorts. It really shows his morbid sense of humor, even back then. It's about the aftermath of a Korean disaster, where a couple have to identify the body of their daughter and it just gets bizarre after that. I won't say anything else, as to not spoil it, but check it out, since you liked Park's other movies. It's only 26 minutes long.

Hmmm, I'm thinking, in descending order:

Death Note & The Last Name (not the L spinoff though!)
Love Exposure (it's 4 1/2 hours long...take a snack)
I'm a Cyborg
Battle Royale
House of Flying Daggers. It's quite pretty. :)

Also shouts go out to Thirst, a darkly comical vampire film. I think that was another Park Chan Wook film. And quoting another reply, Kung Pow definitely counts and is awesome! :) x

This is my pick, in no particular order:

Battle Royale
Death Note
Death Note 2: The last name
Death Note: L change the world
Oldboy

I have not seen that many asian films, and these are not in my top 10 movies (maybe in my top 20) but I can happily sit and watch these. In terms of the Death Note movies, I do prefer the manga and the anime, but these are enjoyable films to pass the time with.

Have you seen Ichi the Killer or Audition?
Ichi the Killer is on my to-see list. I've heard a lot about it, especially about the violence and brutality. I've heard about Audition, the same director, if I'm not mistaken. Miike has made some... disturbing movies to say the least. They aren't exactly easy to watch, a part of the reason I've put off watching them for a while. I will some day though, probably starting with Ichi.

On another note, I recently bought a Kim Ki-duk collection with Crocodile, Birdcage Inn and Address Unknown. From what I've read, that should be a disturbing evening as well, when I decide to watch those three movies. Still, I very much look forward to it.

In no particular order:

Ichi (NOT Ichi the Killer)
Hero
Suicide Club
Shutter
And let me put some anime here too, just to make it complete: The girl who leapt through time

I've seen more, but i thought these were worth mentioning.

Violence and brutality don't bother me too much. The only way something can get to me is if something involves some form of needle torture. I have a horrible phobia of needles. Audition has some needle torture, so does this other film directed by Miike called Imprint, those scenes were so hard to watch.

In no particular order...

Hana Bi (Japan)

The Scent of Green Papaya (Vietnam)

Cyclo (Vietnam)

The Vertical Ray of the Sun (Vietnam)

Marked for Death (Japan)

If it wasn't for Tran Anh Hung hogging three spots I'm sure any number of Chinese/Honkinese films would have gotten a mention. That is just greedy Anh Hung.

I'm not really that squeasmish when it comes to violence and brutality either, I can watch most of it, but some of does get to me. An example of that would be the infamous rape scene from Irreversible. I almost had to turn off the movie, it was almost painful to watch.

I'm not particular fond of needles either, but I can stand watching it. At least I haven't found any movie, where I couldn't watch it yet, but I guess I'll see what Audition does to me.

Have you watched Memories of Murder, by the way?

I can't honestly tell you without...
uh...
Lets just say (quoting GMan) "I'm really not at liberty to say."
Know what I mean?
