5: Machine Girl - A funny flick about an Angelic Pretty Loli and a Yankee biker. The movie has a bunch of Ren & Stempy gross-out humor and, over-the-top violence from time to time. The plot was pretty sweet too. It was a good one and a guilty pleasure if you're not into Loli fashion or people who are into it. It was pretty imaginative too.
4: The Great Yokai War - Directed by Takashi Miike, this one is a family film based around Yokai, demons and monsters from Japanese Folklore. It includes some great effects (ie: guys in rubber costumes) and an interesting plot about the traditional monsters recruiting the help of a frightened child to overcome new monsters who seem to come from the overly modern influences running rampant throughout Japan. A cute movie and a good one especially if you're already a fan of the Yokai movies.
3: Deathnote - Part one which was actually a Japanese mini-series on television. This one is my favorite because it really introduces the characters, Missa isn't there to screw things up and, it deviates enough from the manga to keep things fresh and interesting. Always a good one to go for even if some of the kills have been seen before. It is a bit jarring to see a CGI Ryuk in the live action world though.
2: Ichi the Killer - Another movie by Takashi Miike. This is the most violent movie I have ever seen (yes: more violent than War Zone) and it is disturbing from times too (like the opening in which the title of the film is spelled out in the semen of the title character who was watching a man beat his wife). Still, the violence is so over-the-top it gets kind of funny from time to time. Kakihara is a living metaphor for masochism. Ichi is the living metaphor for sadism. the movie leading up to that fight of S vs M which is a bit underwhelming but the ride is insane.
1: Devilman - I have been a fan of Devilman, the anime, since grade-school. The live-action movie was a bit CGI heavy but the film goes from zero to all-out Armageddon. This is my favorite LA movie based off of an Anime and possibly even the most true-to the source material as you can get (or rather, close to the material as of the 80's remix)
