1. People just don't get that I'm the[/b] best player
2. Dragon Age II is a good and enjoyable game
3. I hate people that "are special and much cooler because they are not mainstream like everybody else and have unpopular opinions"
4. I hate people that open entirely subjective threads and call it being objective

Oh wait, the last two statements apply to this very thread

I can't decide if I want to tear apart others lists or make a list I know others will want to tear apart. Oh well, while we're all being honest, I might as well try to upset everyone by being honest.

1. Bad controls and bad cameras are a good things, in the right type of games. They make you feel weak and afraid, and saying a game is bad for doing that is limiting the experiences games can give you.

2. Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball is a good game, and has a deeper system of controls and exploits sexy babes less than the original fighting series -or most volleyball games for that matter.

3. If you only control one character then its not an RPG. You might as well call Tekken a FPS.

4. A 5 second cut scene worse than a 5 hour cut scene if it shows something the player could actually do themselves. Integrating movies in gameplay only screws up good cinematography. Cut scenes of any length are great, if they have something worth showing.

5. No fans of First Person Shooters can seem to agree on thee best game or set of games for its genre, which typically are well known for most genres. Therefor I must assume there is no first person shooters to stands out as a culmination of the best that all shooters have to offer that I must play. So no FPS can be considered the best game ever, and none are worth playing if you have ever played one.

6. All fighting games as overly defensive and unrealistic by not allowing fighters to attack and block at the same time, and include an idea of balance into the system. (I also don't like that kicking my shin can kill me)

7. MMORPG have almost been design to play themselves. End game raids follow instructions, and are just mindless execution. I get the social fun of team work, but when you get down to it, your paying a monthly fee to play Tetris.

8. People who ***** about games needing to be art more often or design to help gain acceptance of non-gamers are dumb. Really dumb. Art is art, and even the games they don't want to count as art are art. 90% of all art in every genre and media sucks. And until someone starts playing games you can't design games for them, all you can do is make a game good.

9. Choices in games do not make them less linear, they make the game less of a game.

10. No one on the Escapist should own an X-box when they by all probability own a PC, which is pretty much the same system.

11. No one should play a sports game until LARP competitions are aired on TV.

12. Girls not only play video games, but that the ones who are into gaming are in fact more likely to be active than the ones who are not. (Though. I might just be saying that because I know the audience of girls who are likely to read this. That doesn't mean it's not true)

1. I don't like FPSs
2. I don't like RTSs
3. I actually like DLC
4. I play games on PC, Wii, and Xbox 360, and I like them all
5. I enjoyed Dragon Age II, despite its flaws
6. I prefer playing Mass Effect 2 to the first game and I trust BioWare to deliver on ME3

-Pretty much everyone on the Escapist is a cynical fuckwad, and I blame Yahtzee.
-With its recent update, Duke Nukem Forever is one of the better FPSes to come out in a while.
-Bad Company 2 sucks. And Battlefield 3's campaign will look pretty, but will be absolute shit.
-Giving the fastest class in the game one of the highest DPSes in the game is fucking retarded (Team Fortress 2's Scout).
-The 2-weapon swap introduced by Halo is by far the worst game mechanic I have ever seen. It limits your options, simplifies combat to mindless drivel, and limits your fun. In campaign, at least. It works for the multiplayer or a game like Brink. But in single-player? 4 Weapons minimum, please.
-As for Brink, if you are focusing that much on the multiplayer, then you do not deserve to charge it for full price. It's free weekend has shown me that it is worth its current price of $25 and not a penny more.
-Microtransactions, when done right, are a great idea. Team Fortress 2, what with a virtual bear costing $18 when it came out (More than an actual teddy bear), is not doing it right. And people are still paying for the stuff. I myself included, because look at this fucking thing:

http://wiki.teamfortress.com/wiki/Team_Captain

How can you not look at the price tag of $7.50 and not go "YES! YES!".

-Portal 1 kind of sucks.
-Portal 2 still lacks replay value.
-If there were a MLP: FiM promotion for TF2, I'd be all over that shit like unfair critics on Duke Nukem.
-The latest generations of consoles have basically just been trying to be more and more like PCs because their technology was dated within a year and they needed to pick up the slack.
-Brutal Legend is the best attempt at making RTSes suitable for consoles ever created, and it deserves the sequel that EA shot down.

Here are my unpolular opinions, and a brief explaination thereof:

I have played Grand Theft Auto titles and I have played Saints Row titles.

Saints Row skullfucks GTA.

Also, I really don't care about the usual discrimination issues in gaming, being the brown-haired heterosexual white guy from a Judeo-Christian background that most of these games are marketed to.

That reminds me! I don't think that Resident Evil 5 was racist. In fact, I believer that if you think that the game was, then YOU are a racist.

I think half life 1 and 2 are incredibly mediocre. Possibly the most overrated games I ever played.
I think bioshock's story is incredibly overrated, and the second game is just as much fun as the first.
I think the whole "games are art!1" movement is extremely silly, and I wish people who are so desperate to find some sort of deeper meaning in gaming would find another hobby as they clearly feel too important to just play games because they're fun.

Oh, HERE'S an unpopular opinion that makes me feel truly alone when I hear about the "handheld market's changes with the times."

I am ABSOLUTELY READY AND WILLING to pay 40+ dollars on a handheld game. Fuck the iPhone's $1 bullshit. My favorite game on it is Galaxy on Fire 2, a less complex take on the Elite/Privateer school of Space Sim games. I shelled out 16 bucks total on that game (with its Valkyrie expansion) and I have zero regrets.

Handheld games are sophisticated enough now that I can see why I'd pay that kind of money for a real game, and I completely CRAVE that sophistication in my handheld games. I do not have a short attention span, I do not have limited intelligence, I am not some mamby pamby casual who's content with just Angry Birds. You get what you pay for, and I do not wanna live in a world where handheld games cost $1 for $1's worth of entertainment. I do not want vapid free Korean grindy RPGs, I do not want cutesy little casual sims that are almost deep enough but not quite, and I do not want any more retro styled arcade games.

I WANT REAL GAMES ON MY HANDHELD. I DO NOT WANT THE 3DS TO FAIL. It, along with the Wii, is the last breath of life in the PS2 school of budgeting and design. Namely, the point in gaming where the graphics were great but didn't break the bank, and as such it left intrepid developers with enough budget to craft true epics like the DQ games, Rogue Galaxy, the FF games, the Metal Gears and Yakuza. Real games you could sink your teeth into and come out full and content. I reject the popular opinion that the 3DS and Vita should change according to the iPhone, and I propose that I am one of millions in the target audience for dedicated handheld gaming devices.

I am NOT excited about the day when there's no option but hyperdetailed HD, because I know that means too much went into the visuals and not enough went into the content.

OK, after giving it some thought I've come up with some more stuff...

-We should cleanse the earth from Steam with Holy Fire, lot's of Holy Fire.
-Good Old Games is the BEST downloadable game distributor, period.
-I still like the Kane and Lynch games.
-Graphics, framerates, and advanced game engines don't mean a damn thing if your game isn't fun.
-I enjoy the multiplayer aspect of other games, besides Call of Duty. I liked the multiplayer in Dead Space 2, Bioshock 2, etc and I don't believe that games having said multiplayer aspect are a bad thing.
-Day one DLC is not the end of the goddamn world, get over it.
-Tight and intuitive gameplay still does not excuse a generic, bland, and predictable plot.
-Grand Theft Auto IV is the best Grand Theft Auto title ever made.
-There aren't enough games that appeal to "immature man-children" like the recent Mortal Kombat.
-Players that believe that today's games are too easy and therefore not fun can go fuck themselves. Either shut up, bump up the difficulty or go purchase Demon's Souls.
-I will never pay fifty bucks a year (or whatever the hell Microsoft charges) for the privilege of having to endure a conversation with some rather overenthusiastic gentlemen over Xbox Live. I will take the Playstation Network and its 'down for a month' bullshit any day, because that is money that could be going towards a new game for the same experience that ultimately boils down to shooting random people I don't know and getting routinely owned by my friends over the internet.

1. Xenogears is the greatest creation man has begotten.
2. The Warriors franchise (Dynasty, Samurai, Orochi) has much more depth than people give it credit for.
3. This is the worst console generation that Ive been a part of.
4. The PSP is the greatest handheld of all time. If its been hacked. Otherwise, its just pretty good.

I think that's all I got.

FF8 was the best PSX FF.
Persona 3 > Persona 4 by a long way.
Bulletstorm is one of the best FPS games ever.
Modern Bioware writing is atrocious.

DLC is good for the industry though shouldn't be used as an excuse to restrict user freedom.

Steam and other digital download services are bad for the consumer.

Half Life 2 is overrated (yes, I played it on release).

Liniarity in games is a good thing.

Day 1 DLC and initiatives like EA's "Project $10" are a good thing.

Final Fantasy XIII has some of the most well developed characters in any game.

While legally games should be considered art, the vast majority have as much artistic merit as porn.

Nintendo is good for the industry and shouldn't change their stratagies as they help bring new and younger people into gaming.

I agree with you here. I'm a massive Yahtzee fan, but I find people sheep around him too much sometimes. I wonder if it actually bothers him. Again, I'm a massive fan but I don't agree with everything he says.

I agree with these 2 points as well, especially the first one. I would personally be gabe Newells ***** for the rest of my life if that happened.

That I enjoyed Devil May Cry 2.
I care more about Fallout 3 and NV than the first 2 and Tactics.
Halo is a really good series of FPS games.
Wind Waker is one of my favourite Zelda games.

Games are far to preoccupied with power fantasies. Games need MECHANICS in the game play that arn't centered on being better capable of killing things.
That's because a physical/ physics representation of conflict/ adversity (and the overcoming of it) is the easiest to pull off. If not killing then what? Non-lethal incapacitation? Stealth? It's still a physical/ physics representation. Everything that has to do with the mind, games are inherently weaker at representing. Or it will be some kind of dream sequence that has similar physical/ physics characteristics (running around etc.).

In the end, that which makes things possible in a game (programming; lines of code) is also its greatest limitation.

have you seen extra credits video on the topic of "art" and "fun"? if not I would point you in that direction right now, games arnt there yet...but they'll get there eventually

anyway I'm sick of people saying "I just want games to be fun! not "deep" or what ever" if that were true then I would be 100% fine with more Mario games....Im NOT..fuck mario
