1: Any Call of Duty game is shit, was shit and will always be shit.
2: We don't need any more war games.
3: Final Fantasy VII was the worst Final Fantasy of all.
4: League of Legends is NOT fun.
5: Fallout: New Vegas is alright.

Everybody complains about stuff in oblivion that wasn't a concern at the time. For example: the character creation and the graphics. it's just un-needed and unfairly done to slam these features when comparing them to Skyrim. I do like the improvements, but what i cant stand is people belittling what were great achievements at the time (the robust character creation and the graphics for such a content-rich game).

"unpopular" probably not the bst word, what I really ment was "tell your opinions...ANYTHING is fair game"
Ah. Coolies, makes it a bit easier to respond to then. Except, maybe a bit too easy. Not to be too particular, but I think your thread might be going into the 'All your forum are belong to me' route.

6. The best part of Yahtzee's routine is where he's not being crude.
haha what ever that means I dont think Im helping by unintentionally bumping....I think this may have been my biggest thread anyway (ugghhh that sounded like a self ego boost sorry)
It doesn't matter. If this thread was called instead "what are your POPULAR opinions on gaming?", it would have made very little difference.
People don't know just how commonplace their stupid opinions are as is evident from the responses sofar.

Controversial would have been the better word for it, but then just about everything can be controversial in gaming communities. Again no difference.

how about "***** about things you dont like without people rushing to said games defense?"

I mean it is funny because it goes both ways, like "I thourt ME2 was a great game" might be perecived as an unpopular veiw here due to some people who dont like it....however even here I wouldnt call it an unpopular veiw

and DEFINETLY wouldnt call it an unpopular veiw with other gamers..considering the games massive popularity

also what makes other peoples opinions "stupid"? mabye if somone gives their opinion with an annoying sense of self importance..but it still might be a valid opinion

There's more than just character creation issues when it comes to Oblivion.

Yeah the game was really pretty and gave you some felxibility with your face (even though it was almost impossible to make a good looking character), there were still so many massive problems with the game that scenary porn wasn't enough.

Also, what if I didn't like Oblivion before Skyrim was even announced? Does that make me automatically wrong?

That's because an opinion without argumentation is worthless. Still valid as an opinion, because an opinion cannot fail to be an opinion, but lacking useful information.

"***** about things you dont like without people rushing to said games defense?" is a good title btw. It has the negative load to attract more posters.

Portal 2 is one of the worst games I have ever played. Its boring, linear, ugly and repetetive, I had to stop playing because I could feel it sucking the will to live from me.

Erm...

They are as follows:

1.
Halo is a mediocre franchise, it did nothing for gaming except breed a generation of insufferable fanboys.

2.
Duke Nukem Forever is a good game, not by the whiny modern "Why isn't this game more like COD" ideas but more along the "its Duke Nukem, it defined an era of gaming and was one of the grand fathers of the modern, inappropriate gaming scene most of us love,"

3.
Duke Nukem did more for gaming than Halo did

4a.
Gears of war is a great franchise and the Multiplayer wasn't bad in 2.

4b.
The Gears 3 Beta was VERY disappointing with the multiplayer being nothing but who can get their shotgun out fastest or reach the power weapons first.

5.
L4D 1&2 are both titles made for females, hence why you find more females playing them than in other online games.

6.
For every 1 decent American on XBL you get 50 cunts who are racist, loud and irritating for its own sake.

So those are my unpopular opinions on the current gaming generation.

I also Hate EA, Activision and Sony Online Entertainment as game studios but at this point me saying that is like throwing shit in a London riot. Lots of people are doing it too and no one is really surprised by it.

Halo 3 was better than Halo: Reach.

Fallout 3 was better than Fallout: New Vegas.

CoD is dull, uninteresting and broken.

I'm not a huge Valve fan anymore.

You can still have fun with games that came out 10 years ago, so you don't need a high-end PC if you want to play good games.

All according to plan (sorry for the thread derail). Apologies for my attempt to be 'clever' by abusing a meme ([a href=http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/All_your_base_are_belong_to_us#section_1]link[/a]), I just meant to say your topic probably shouldn't attempt to be any broader, lol.

7. I wish the 3DO and it's successor survived until 2004 rather than the Neo Geo.

P.S. Glad that this thread isn't about bitching ^_^

1. Final Fantasy VII WAS a great game. WAS being the key word. It hasn't aged well and isn't fun anymore.

2. Zelda and Mario are both mediocre titles.

3. PC is a trophy platform and generally saying you are a PC gamer is said as a "status" thing.

4. Call of Duty 4 is more innovative and better than Call of Duty 2, and it is one of the best FPSs of all time. (I know there usually isn't much hate towards CoD4 directly, but the reputation the series has as a whole on this website would probably prevent people from admitting how amazing it was.)

5. Inception was only pretending to be a deep movie and was not that good.

No not at all. Not at all. Imagine you get a car and it's great now. You buy a car in the future and it's got a considerable amount of improvements and new technologies that make it even better than your first car (e.g. a lighter engine so it goes faster and is less bulky). now let's say the old car was bulky and therefore slow (this being due to the engine it was using at the time). It makes no sense to critisize the old car so severely, when obviously nothing better than what (i.e. that engine) could have been done at that time. When people describe old cars, they do it with a sense of nostalgic pride, sometimes in a jokey comical sense, because they know it's inferior to their shiny new cars. And people who didn't like that car before the new car was made are entirely justified by their opinions. It's obvious that the old car is crap now- but it doesn't have a defence against the new one. That's not to say that everything should constantly be improved, but it just annoys me that people point out obvious flaws by saying 'yes the face creation was crap but now it's great in Skyrim' because if we applied this to everything old e.g. comparing our civilisation to cave men (putting it extremely simply), then it just seems condescending to that thing.

1. Innovation is overrated
Interesting. See, the definition of innovation is to introduce new ideas or to make changes to anything established. [http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/innovate] Bearing that in mind:

2. Portal 2 was better than the first
Had Valve not taken the time to polish Portal a bit and added some innovative ideas to the mix (like the gels, characters, and backstories), all of the best parts of the game would not exist.

3. Half-Life 1 was awful and had no story, but Half-Life 2 was infinitely better
Again, if Valve had stuck with their formula for HL1 and chose not to innovate their formula by not only adding more story, but seamlessly mixing it into the gameplay HL2 would not stand at the pinnacle of narrative games as it does now. Their NEW IDEAS in the area of narrative games have blown open the door to possibilities and proven they can mix together if done right.

4. Metroid Prime 3 is the best of the series
Nintendo continued to CHANGE WHAT WAS ESTABLISHED in order to bring you the different variations of gameplay and story in all of the Metroid games.

5. Pokémon has been getting gradually better
Again, a steady stream of innovation to their formula for more than 10 years now.

6. Ocarina Of Time isn't that great
Zelda is yet another product of innovation--its sequels every time introducing new ideas and gameplay elements, giving us the broad range of games and gameplay that exists in the franchise today.

7. Mass Effect 2 was better than the first in just about every way
Again, all of those improvements are the fruits of innovation. Changing what already exists.

And I think it should be noted that Pokemon, Metroid, and Zelda were all quite innovative at the times they came out. Their NEW IDEAS really set the standards in their respective fields and genres, which is why they are still around today. Nintendo likes to take their games that have already hit plenty of home runs and see if they can get them to not only hit it out of the park, but hit it into a park about three counties away. The best way to do that is to try different balls and bats. And according to your testaments regarding sequels here, it seems they were right to do this.

No, I think you're still not quite looking at it right. No game should ever be made without at least one new idea or one change made to the formula of whatever it was based. If you do not do one or the other, the result will either be nothing or an exact copy of something that's been done before with no changes or improvements.

You and the people you are talking about seem to be confusing innovation with originality. Those are completely different words. Innovation is simply change in one form or another--whether it comes in the form of something new or something old that's been redone. It doesn't have to be unlike anything else seen before. It just has to be different, even if only a little. Even if it means adding just one new gun or having a villain with a different motivation.

Games should never exact carbon-copies of one another, just as books and films shouldn't be. There is inherently nothing wrong with similar, because similar still means there's something different--usually a lot of somethings.

The Uncharted series isn't some kind of fucking holy grail, its a slightly above average TPS with a main character who's designers apparently forgot the the first part of character creation is to make someone sympathetic.

Majora's Mask is the best 3D Zelda, mostly because the plot has weight, also transformation masks=win.

Final Fantasy XIII is actually quite good, the characters are well crafted and sympathetic, the plot is legitimately interesting and demands you keep playing, unlike other FF games I could mention *cough*FFX*cough,* and above all, the combat is fun and satisfying.

Metroid Other M is awesome, a cool blend of 2D and 3D metroid gameplay, with a story that others have already defended so I won' waste time my time and yours by pointlessly doing so again.

FFVII, VIII, and X all suck and can fuck right off.
