Metallica

I've never really understood why their this great thing in metal. Their singer comes off as bland to me and they're music is kinda lame. sure they can shred but nowhere near the level of say...dragon force so really while they're not terrible, nothing about them seems to make them stand out among all the other ho-hum metal bands and yet people fucking love them, christ they made a Guitar Hero (or was it rock band?)game based entirely around their music.

Pop, Hip-Hop and Metal in general.

A bit broad so of course there are exceptions but I couldn't be arsed to list EVERYONE who's overrated.

Goona say The Beatles too. Mainly because my friend thinks they are the best to to grace this planet EVER(!). I don't really see the appeal to be honest. I mean, they're not bad, but I wouldn't have them on my iPod, y'know.

I always found Metallica to be incredibly overrated. This is the only thing I can come up with at the moment. I would say Elvis and a few others, but I'm sure that's rather because it's outside of my musical preference rather than the artist(s) being overrated.

wow, lot of Beatles haters...kind of weird to call them overrated when even today their the second most listened to and downloaded band in the world (Elvis is the first). I can understand if their just not your cup of tea (little english joke) but after like 50 years of unwavering fame i think they've earned the hype. I personally hate Elvis but i'm not going call him overrated.

AC/DC. I hate to go after my favorite band when I was a little sapling, but aside from their hits, the rest is utter shit. Entirely hit or miss with AC/DC.
I completely agree. I am an AC/DC fan but I think that their godlike status is a bit undeserved. They have so many albums and about 20 good songs.

I actually think that they were better after Bon Scott aswell.

I agree, how the fuck did they get 3 of the top 5 in Triple J's hottest 100 a the year before last?

The Beatles?! come on what they get is for the most part well deversed. For alot of bands you have to understand their context, like alot in a lot of early rock (older then 1969) there wasn't a real presedent.

Getting back on topic, I think any band that some way involves the devil or satanic whatever, like Iron Maiden, in their image is overrated. I'd illaburate, but I don't want to get suspended agian.

Pearl Jam.
Really? I know their new stuff is crap, but Oceans, Black, Jeremy, and Even Flow are pretty good
I think it's more me, because the riffs and lyrics are excellent, I just don't like the Eddie Vedder's voice. If someone else sang I'd be perfectly happy.

AC/DC, Guns and Roses. All one-song bands.
Pendulum - remove "Streamline" from their work and they're very average.
Whilst I agree with your comments about The Beatles and Michael Jackson. I disagree with the ones I have quoted.

I'm assuming you have listened to all of Pendulum's albums as you mention "Streamline" from Hold Your Colour so I guess you aren't one of those idiots that is like "Immersion sucks, that maekz Pen-Dulum teh ghey". Whilst Immersion does suck the wang of an ebola ridden camel Pendulum are pretty good. Even if they aren't really DnB anymore.

On that note. Immersion is overrated. It is an average album made to make money of the Pendulum name. I hate it when bands get famous enough to make money out of their name ratehr than their music.

I'm gonna jump on the Beatles Bandwagon here.

I have spent many hours trying to make clear to a friend that the Stones > Beatles, but to no avail.
(And Daft Punk > Stones > Beatles, but luckily he gets that.)

Radiohead. They create music with as much pretentious bullshit as possible and pretend it's deep and when you say you don't like their songs you get replied with "You just don't get it mangggg."

I don't know. This threads too easy? Anyone can list a few bands.

I'll refrain.

(muse)..(CRAP I didn't refrain..)

EDIT. I just read that someone said that Elvis is the most downloaded "band/artist" in the world. WHAT? HOW!? I really don't get that, and I haaaaaaaaaaaaaaate to flame.

But can anyone explain that? Even his most popular songs....maybe its just me. I hate this voice.

The Beatles, System of a Down and Muse. The beatles were good singers/songwriters but terrible musicians. Serj Tankien is a prick and I find that all of Muse's songs sound the same. I also think Elvis was overrated, he was an ok singer, but not great.
