I've never really been fond of Nirvana. I mean, they have had some great songs, but I guess after the 1000th time I heard "Smells Like Teen Spirit", I just don't like it anymore. I mean, the song even got #1 on one of those VH1 Greatest Songs of the 90s countdowns. I've always felt they have always gotten so much love because of Kurt Cobain. It's sort of the Dark Knight/Heath Ledger situation: something is already great gets an unnecessary "legend" status because someone associated with it dies tragically. Yes, the situation is tragic, but does thinking the movie/band is better than it actually is make one feel better? Would one feel guilt if one did not like the movie or band? They are a great band and probably moved a lot of people, but they get too much padding due to Mr. Cobain.
