This is netural territory, no need for shields.
I noticed. I'm still wary when bringing up my dislike of the Beatles, even when in Switzerland.
Oh I do love history humour that gave me a good laugh. Don't worry, a lot of people here dislike the Beatles to some degree.

Most classic rock bands. (The Beatles, Led Zepplin, The Doors, especially AC/DC, many, many others)

Any Band that someone claims to be the best band ever.

Popular bands.

Mainstream Bands.

Niche Genre bands with cult followings.

I guess you can see where I'm going. Overrated applies to pretty much everything when anyone starts throwing absolutes into their description of said everything (ex. TEH BEST!).

Personally, I think the Beatles are the most overrated because they have a loud sect of fans who think people who don't agree with them being the best, most revolutionary band ever are unsophisticated lowlifes with no taste or no appreciation for how much the Beatles inspired bands.

The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath.
And before someone comes along and says I have a bias against old music, I love Hendrix and Thin Lizzy, I just find the bands I mentioned insanely overrated. I can appreciate their influence but I'd never want to listen to them. Well, some Beatles songs are okay I guess.

Oh god, I can't stand Nickleback personally. Though, I liked that 'Hero' song, the one with only Chad Kroeger and other guys for the Spiderman 1 theme song.

Other than that though, I don't have any particularly overrated bands, as I usually listen to songs that interest me.

AC/DC - repetitive, un-catchy... (I prefer other classics like KISS)
Muse - i only like their song "knights of cydonia" but the rest, overrated... :|
The Strokes
The Beatles
The Kooks
All Time Low

and for singers... I think Michael Jackson is overrated... just because of his death in 2009.. it's been a trend but it's just too much
Oh also Eminem... maybe it's coz it's not my type of genre but still.

Never liked the Beatles. I don't like the fanboys and girls who try to push it on me either. Cult followings by kids whose parent's parents actually gave a shit.

Metallica's another one I don't care for.

KISS.

(As mentioned before) System of a Down.

Rage Against the Machine.

Seether, as well as any other band that takes it sound almost directly from Nickelback--the posterboy for sellouts after '02.

Nirvana. I liked the music when it was new. But looking back on it, it's the same '90s angst music as before. There aren't many of their songs I have any feeling for anymore. Overplayed, overrated, overhyped--everything Nirvana didn't want to be. I find that humorous in a cynically sarcastic way.

Slipknot.

Rob Zombie. I liked Dragula. That was all.

Coldplay. After Viva La Vida I think the suckometer was up near "Full".

Almost all rap after around 2000. But I think that's established. I do enjoy rap though; good rap, that's not about retarded things. Rap that's not about killing or whores or anything.

Tool. Generic music for the alternative crowd. Paradox or oxymoron?

AC/DC. I hate to go after my favorite band when I was a little sapling, but aside from their hits, the rest is utter shit. Entirely hit or miss with AC/DC.

Led Zeppelin

Done.
I was going to say this, but the way Led Zeppelin's music was written was almost in the style of orchestral pieces. It was less of a band and more like a chamber group with rock instruments, if you take my meaning.

That, and the entire genre changed after Led. So many groups took inspiration from Led Zeppelin; it's hard to really call them overrated when their influence still continues to this day.

You realize he was murdered for no reason right? That's not right even if you dislike his music. I'm sorry but you're a bigot, regardless of flame bait or not.

I would say all of rap/modern pop music. I don't think you would call them bands though...

Muse, just not into the style.

Kings of Leon, hate the lead singer's voice with a burning passion that would make the fires of hell look like an ice ring.
