If you like sci/fi or fantasy, try The Malazan Books of the Fallen. If you can get through the first book, Gardens of the Moon, then you'll enjoy the rest of the series. Ten books averaging about 900 pages each.

Non-fiction, The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Amazing arguments about the non-existence of god. As an atheist, I quite enjoy it.

"Call of the Wild" by Jack London.

I've had the book with me for over two months but I barely read it because of other books I'm given. I recently finished my last book and am working on it.

Children of DUNE. Yes, DUNE is awesome enough to be in all caps.
The DUNE (I can't stop now) series is some of the best sci-fi I've ever read and he makes the worlds seem so real. It also makes some decent points about government, religion, and is a pretty good satire. Or, you can just read them as an epic adventure.

Silence of the Lambs. Literally just started.

Also, looking over Bible and Koran and daaaaamn that's some bad fantasy books. And people whine about Twilight when such badly written crap gets world fame. Open your eyes!

I'm reading The Wheel of Time series right now, and I recently read twilight series. WoT is good, twilight is about average. Some of my favorite fantasy books are the Sword of Truth series, The Inheritance series, the Alpha and Omega series, the Fifth ring series, and the Drizzt Do'Urden series. The vampire huntress series, and the attikus kodiak series are also pretty good, and set in modern day, although the attikus kodiak series is less fantasy than just plain fiction.

Some really good books I'd recommend are any books by Walter Moers. Really good imagination and a great world to lose yourself in.

I'm reading two books at the moment, The Sad Tale of the Brothers Grossbart, which is an excellent fantasy slash historical fiction novel, and The Name of the Rose, the excellent murder mystery going on philosophical tale
