Someone who does in truth.

Edit: I know that may sound sarcastic, sorry, but I simply mean that it is a man that is true to others about everything he is. So if he feels sad and starts to cry, that is what he does. Not some guy who pretends that he isn't because men don't cry.

Hairy nipples.

Okay, serious now: Many of the fine people here have already stated things that I would except as a good definition.

But that's not only a true man but a true adult. A true person. Gender isn't really important.

That is called honesty - something that is related to truth, but not the same.

"true" is a relationship-value - its what happens when you compare a statement and the available info, and both match. "True man" makes no sense - truth here is used as a perversion of what truth actually means - namely, the concept truth here is replaced with the idea of an ultimate reference/god/master/ideal.

It's a common misconception made by people who think that "the truth" exists - it doesn't. Truth is not a "thing", in the same way as "beauty" is not a thing. Truth is not some supreme commander who decides what is "good" and what is "bad". Good and bad doesn't even have anything to do with truth. If you don't understand this, then please in such cases use the word "ideal" instead of "true", because it will be much closer to what you mean.

My book of tips for the modern gentleman (which includes useful information like how to drive a tank, make explosives and win at blackjack) defines gentleman as a man who is daring, adventurous, intelligent, self-aware and courteous.

A true man would never hit a woman.
A true man understands others.
A true man is polite at all times.
A true man plays Pokemon.

Okay, maybe not the last one.

I do believe chivalry makes a man.
Sort of. I find it goes far deeper than that as a man can be chivalrous when he is out and about and an absolute monster when he returns home. A man truly tries to be a positive force in whatever he does, wherever he goes. He may be negative at times but he can admit when he crosses a line or hurts someone and tries to fix his mistake. A man is in tune with his emotions but isn't consumed by them, he can discuss difficult topics but isn't afraid to make his views heard. A man is assertive but willing to concede to another persons view if it makes more sense. He may be stubborn at times as he is not willing to change who he is but he knows how to act maturely.

Maybe a bit off topic, but why shouldn't men hit women? And obviously not talking about domestic violence. I'm talking about in general. It's either okay to hit *people* or it's not. Are women told to never hit a man? Or another woman?

More on topic, like others have said 'a true man' to me, comes down to genetic/biological factors, and I guess age seperates a man from a boy.

What I always post when people ask this question.

If

IF you can keep your head when all about you
Are losing theirs and blaming it on you,
If you can trust yourself when all men doubt you,
But make allowance for their doubting too;
If you can wait and not be tired by waiting,
Or being lied about, don't deal in lies,
Or being hated, don't give way to hating,
And yet don't look too good, nor talk too wise:
If you can dream - and not make dreams your master;
If you can think - and not make thoughts your aim;
If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster
And treat those two impostors just the same;
If you can bear to hear the truth you've spoken
Twisted by knaves to make a trap for fools,
Or watch the things you gave your life to, broken,
And stoop and build 'em up with worn-out tools:

If you can make one heap of all your winnings
And risk it on one turn of pitch-and-toss,
And lose, and start again at your beginnings
And never breathe a word about your loss;
If you can force your heart and nerve and sinew
To serve your turn long after they are gone,
And so hold on when there is nothing in you
Except the Will which says to them: 'Hold on!'

If you can talk with crowds and keep your virtue,
' Or walk with Kings - nor lose the common touch,
if neither foes nor loving friends can hurt you,
If all men count with you, but none too much;
If you can fill the unforgiving minute
With sixty seconds' worth of distance run,
Yours is the Earth and everything that's in it,
And - which is more - you'll be a Man, my son!

Rudyard Kipling.

A Y chromosome.

It's not a state of mind. It's not a dingle-dangle. It's a Y chromosome.

It's to do with the perception that men are stronger.

Basically, I believe that hitting a woman is an incredibly cowardly thing to do, that's all.

See, I've never heard of "false men" except for really creepy stalking cases and 4Chan threads. So I'm gonna go with "a True Man has a Y-chromosome."

A beard. Every man needs one. To quote whoever wrote this on the wikipedia article about beards;
"There are two kinds of people in this world that go around beardless?boys and women?and I am neither one."

Well, to be a true man, you have to be male, and you have to be of age. Why are you asking this question again?

I call it integrity but hey it's po-tay-to / po-tat-to

yes, I was taking a literal meaning and I think you can compare what you say/do/think to available info(truth in the matter) as you put it, as well.

And the arguement of whether truth exists is not this topic's thread so I won't highjack it.
