No way mate, we're not gonna change our driving until you change your bloody dates!

Or else I'll release my pet drop bear on you!

They're called "drop bears" for a reason.

One minute you're walking throught he park, next minute your brain has become a vicious predator's dinner!

The country itself is beautiful. I love marine biology, so it'd be awesome to live there.

On the other hand, I don't like the censorship, the price of games/etc, and I've heard that there's a bit of closeted racism there (similar to that in European countries). That and I like living in a country where I rarely have to worry about the danger level of the wildlife I happen to come across.

As a Pom who came down here marry an Aussie.. both me and my wife want out as soon as we can afford it.

Horrible weather, horrible wildlife, horrible culture.

I don't know about other areas of the country, but here in Perth, the good people are vastly outnumbered by the bogans and the scum. Loud, obnoxious and drunk at every opportunity.

Of course, it doesn't help us that most of our neighbours are of a.. certain demographic.. who's culture encourages them to behave atrociously, make demands of those around them and treat their homes and neighbourhoods like trash.. but it's the acceptance and allowance of such behaviour without immediately evicting or jailing them that is worse than the behaviour itself.

Racism against people who've come here legally and often work incredibly hard is disgustingly common... hell, even I get similar treatment and unless I open my mouth nobody would know I'm not an Aussie.

The Government panders far to much to inconsequential religious types, leading to censorship, internet monitoring and other unpleasant things.

As a South African, I view Australia as an inferior nation that pales in contrast to the glory of the Republic of South Africa. However, If I was forced to flee South Africa for a reason (me just being white SA male) Australia or NZ would be a more preferable place to live than the other English speaking nations.

Bit of trivia: There have never been any confirmed kills of drop bears by US citizens, ever.

As an Australian, I'd feel insulted, if I didn't agree with every single negative you bring up. The discrimination thing in particular strikes a chord with me- here in the Sutherland Shire of NSW, tolerance is evidently optional. As is clothing, and sobriety.

(From an Aussie)
-Cons:
-Every year, at least half the country will be on fire, but we have water restrictions, so we've gotta squidgy out the fire with a sponge. Exception below...
-If not on fire, you will be flooding. Dry cracked ground causes flash floods in obscure locations.
-Sharks, Blue ringed octopus, box jellyfish, blue-bottle jellyfish, seen around most the country at differing times of the year.
-Crocodiles, snakes and various spiders await you if you venture inland.
-Large temperature shifts, hitting 1-2 degrees on cold nights, but 40 degrees on hot days. Highest I've seen was a 46 degree day, and I live on the coast.
-Horrible government...
-$100 games
-Terrible beer (well, I've got a soft spot for Teddies (tooheys extra dry))
-Lots of racist people, generally the older generation

-Pros:
-Fantastic beaches
-Beautiful women
-High minimum wage (around $16.50 an hour)
-Very high pay for tradies, electricians and plumbers averaging around $2000 a week. Extremely high if you work in the mines, my miner buddies earning $3000-4000 a week.(More then most doctors earn)
-Government will pay you $500 a fortnight to study at university
-Very strict firearm laws
-Overplayed "Dangerous" animals, keeping foreigners out.

Special note goes to the Sydney Funnel Web.

In all seriousness, we know Australia to be just like the mother country, but with better weather, more lethal wildlife and a deficit of ethnic minorities due to genocide and geographic isolation.

Also, whilst you have enough bar staff to export them here, you have an odd shortage of hairdressers- according to the points-based immigration system, this is pretty much the best way to guarantee acceptance without attending university.
Shortage of ethnic minorities? I live in Melbourne, and I can tell you that this is about the furthest thing from the truth.
Love it. Gillard is particularly useless, but she's a bit of an anomaly, and in general, our politicians are alright - at least better than America's. :p

Weird English? Australian English is pretty much British English.

I'll see your underarm bowling incident and raise you a rugby World Cup (or two). :)

On the evidence of your sentence and grammar, our education system is better than yours. :p

I'll probably have to eat those poorly-chosen words after the World Cup, but at least I'm from Melbourne and won't have to care about the rugby.

I don't know what aprt of Perth you're from but im an aussie too and it seems to me like you havn't fully experienced the country. WA is the less amazing part of Australia, try out the East coast; Especially near the Gold Coast region. You might like it much more.
