Nobody ever believes that, as a roofer, I'm neither a criminal, nor am I Hispanic, although the later is apparently a misconception that's only common in parts of the US where the migrant labour pool has a large percentage of Mexican immigrants.
The criminal thing, though; I'm seriously one of a relatively small percentage of roofers that I know that can get a complete DoD clearance without having to get a work waiver, which means that I can (theoretically) get immediate authorization to work on RCAF structures, in the event of a maintenance call.
Lol, now that I think of it just about every "contractor" I have met has done time.
Have you ever seen the bit in the Charlie Sheen movie 'Cadence' where the other prisoner explains about how it's offensive to 'ask what you're in for?', and the better option is to 'ask what they're accused of?' I've replayed that scene at so many job-sites, it's almost a fucking trope.
Here's another thing that many people seem to refuse to believe about me: although I'm not really great at it, I can hand-sew, and I understand a little bit about late medieval garment construction, particularly corsets. My girlfriend is a professional seamstress and costumer, and she specializes in Elizabethan garments, which (for the women) include corsets.
I'm by no means an expert, but I'm actually quite capable of helping a woman put on the bulk of the clothes that would be commonly worn by an Elizabethan noblewoman, and I'm about to start learning how to properly wear Elizabethan mens' garb.
