Well, last wee, my girlfriend gave me head for my birthday while I was playing COD.
In natural gamer's fashion, I slammed my controller down when I died. Into her head.
Her response? She hit me in the balls. Hard.

By the way, that is no joke I swear.
BWHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHA

even if it is true, i luaghed so hard at this its not funny
Now that's a true gamer; doesn't even put down the controller for a headjob. You ever seen Mallrats? I think you and Brody might be related.

I turn off the game and try another game for a while. It applies to both competitive and single player games.

I don't get pissed over competition. If I suck at that game, I have the decency to either lose gracefully or blame the controller. Both are comical.

When I get pissed at losing to something single-player, that's an issue. I'm playing the Ghostbusters game on my PS3. It's a great game. It has all the right quality and funny shit put in. I play at the Normal level (as opposed to easy mode) and find that I get the hang of it fairly well, to the point where I hardly/never fail my mission...up until a harsh choke point. And I don't mean the boss battles. That would be normal. I'm talking about the really dicking hard stuff. Stuff that's frustrating not only to ME, but ALL decent gamers. And while I've seen clips on Youtube of a guy getting several-times snookered by one of the bosses, I beat that one in one, maybe two tries. (I can't remember.)

Some parts of the game are just frustrating. So, after getting beaten down for the Nth time, I can't stand it. I gots to have a goddamn break.

I cry myself to sleep...

Nah, I take it and then try to whoop ass the next round. If its in Halo 3 I laugh it off since I don't really care about Halo 3. I mainly care about Resistance 2 Co-op for the moment. and I tend to do well in so I'm safe.

I scream bloody hell at my T.V. and then get in my pool and chill to some classic rock. But I guess not everyone has a pool so I suggest listening to the Eagles.

I sit in awe for a moment, think about what just happened... and try it again. When reality reaffirms that I really did just get whopped by doing it to me a second time... I quit and go play Scrabble on my 360. :p

Punch the wall many times. My hands become blue afterwards, but at least I cool off a little.

Pink Floyd is good for that too.
OT: I normally just keep playing when I'm getting demolished. Unless it's TF2, I lose all my urges to play, and out of pure boredom, join som n00b 2Fort server and spy the hell out of everyone.

Get a drink. Count to 10 (I'm serious).

Release your anger on something of little to no value (you know, like, bending a guitar pick a bit).

Evaluate why you lost. Analyze every little mistake you made. Watch the replay, watch the demo, think about what your opponent was thinking, how you can be less predictable, always have the jump on him...

Play with a clear mind, free of anger, free of fear, free of emotion. Play like a machine. Toy with your opponent the next game.

And hey, if it's a team game, "FUKKEN TEEM MATE LOL!"
One can only be expected to do so much in a certain situation.

Granted, in Quake, a 1v5 is certainly possible if you isolate your opponents and play cleverly.

In WoW, say, class > gear > "skill", and a level 75 in a 70-79 bracket WSG against 5 79s in an open area can only do so much, you know?

Hold yourself to high standards, look for improvement, but don't set the bar to unreachable goals.

And we all have bad days, and good days.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Sometimes, you're the windshield. Sometimes you're the bug.
Sometimes you're the bat, sometimes you're the ball.
It just works like that. Put it down, do something else, come back in a bit. If you have to keep playing, like for a clan tournament or scrimmage or something, then you just need to train your mind.
People don't believe me when I say most gaming that involves competition takes place 80% in your mind, and 20% in the game (10% aim, 10% movement, etc.)
Learn what to do in certain situations and it all falls into place.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Edit: If you're like me, and you have issues with remaining calm sometimes, relaxing music really helps. Even if you're playing a game where people talk about listening to speed metal while playing, just remember...Calm, Cool, Collected, and Focused.

Music from the 'Braid' soundtrack usually helps me out well.

I go BURNINATING the country side and all the people in their thatched-roof cottages.

That always helps.

Play No Mercy on L4D, the Appartment level is really well suited for aggression venting. Nothing is as soothing as bashing a hapless zombie against a wall while he charges at you, and while he's getting even more angry you blow his head off or riddle him full with lead. Lovely.
Or chopping up random crap in Prototype.
