I think that he is a man who is unworthy of his position of power and that he has no right to tell people what to do or how to live their lives.

No offense to Catholics.

He's just an old man who did absolutely nothing for the world, but people still seem to think he's the greatest gift to mankind. A bit like the queen really, just a symbol or whatever.

He's also just as hypocrite as the church so more power to him for representing one hundred percent the organization he's in control of.

Haven't really been paying attention to it but...

He's old
He's holy
He has a cool name
And it doesn't bother me about my religion

Just another guy with a potential (or already in the process of) some serious damage to the modern world and its people. Having his own bloody state and over a billion people (but not all of them) adhering to him as a figure of higher morality is scary and worrying, at best.

I really liked and respected John Paul II. Not only was he trying to spread tolerance and friendship, he actually made friends with musicians and other celebrities (he owned a pair of sunglasses given to him by Bono for pete's sake), and the Church was much more tolerant under his rule.

Benedict really upsets me as a Catholic woman. Although what do I care, I was divorced and am currently seeing a non-Catholic with the intention of having extramarital sex. I'm about 2 steps away from excommunication now.

Everything about the man is extremely creepy, his eyes, his smile, his face, the whole pedophilia scandal and oh, have you looked into the mans fucking eyes!?

He is a huge creep, everything about him.

I have just as much power as the pope. Fewer people just listen to me. At least when I suspect child abuse, I report it to the officials.

I think he's an alright Pope, but definitely a step down from JPII. Now that guy was a champ.

The pope is a man, despite what his position is supposed to represent (voice of god, infallable). He was chosen by men, no less. To me, it's another field of politicing, and this man probably was able to slime his way to the top.

I'm not catholic so i don't two crosses about the Pope..but i think it's funny that he was a Hitler youth at one point. (Yes it's true Joesph Ratzinger aka Pope Benedict the XVI used to be a nazi supporter there's a swastika logo under that pope hat)
Taken from wikipedia:

"Following his 14th birthday in 1941, Ratzinger was conscripted into the Hitler Youth ? as membership was required by law for all 14-year old German boys after December 1939[7] ? but was an unenthusiastic member who refused to attend meetings.[8] His father was a bitter enemy of Nazism, believing it conflicted with the Catholic faith."

From what I understand it was like enforced boy scouts. So if you're a fourteen year old told you can go camping or be put to death, what would you choose? Cake or death, CAKE OR DEATH!!??

In my personal opinion I don?t really like this pope for the reason he defends pedophiles. Although I am not Christian I am not anti religious like many who have posted here (no offence just seems like that from the way many people are posting). I do have to say I loved his predecessor Pope john Paul the second, honestly he was and looked like a really nice fellow, although my judgment on pope john is based on my very limited knowledge of him seeing as I am not Christian.

Honestly, the pope in and of itself is a very odd idea. One man who is the voice of God and is somehow mad infallable by his position doesn't really seem all that biblical and thus creates one of the porblems that has plagued the church through its loopy history. Throught the middle ages and recently peoples belief in these men has really sent them down paths that should not occur. And now as you have this sick pervert continuing to work *the pedo dude I mean* there and the church seemingly uncaring my disdain for this branch of my religion grows. They need to come out saying this crap isn't acceptable and crack down.
I just want to try to explain how the pope kind of came to be (unless u already knew this but for those who don?t) kind of happened after the court of Rome (by the emperor Constantine I think) moved to Constantinople (Istanbul) this vacuumed of power allowed the bishop of Rome to take the role as leader in order to prevent Rome from being invaded by "barbarians". That at least from what I understand I could be wrong

he didnt chose to be one, every child in germany i believe had to be one.
The Nazi party/movement was a political party, much like we know political parties today. Germany in the 1930's-1940's did not equal 100% Nazi population. (In fact, many of the most troublesome aspects of that war were unknown to most Nazi soldiers, like death camps.) So Benidicts' affiliation was probably via his parents, but I have nothing to back that up with.

Indeed, John Paul Two really did try to spread a message of peace and get others, both young and old involved with making the world a better place.

I miss him.
