That came from here? Wow. Delusional is right. Seems like an alright place. No worse or better than other forum I've been to. Every site has it's fair share of fools and normal folks.

Oh, it's alright.

Sometime the bickering gets me down, especially when something divisive has happened recently, and I bugger off for a week or so.

But as of right now, I totally love you guys and gals.

Yes, even the 114 of you on my ignore list. I love you all!

...

Hey, where'd put my bottle?

You mean pro-PC bias or anti-PC bias?
Try starting a thread titled "consoles are better" and see what happens ... the flames would be like hellfire in a furnace, in a volcano.

It is a definite pro-PC crowd here, feels a little like being second class gamer if you're a console gamer here.
I think some PC gamers are just boasting for jokes and attention, especially if they write "The Glorious PC Gaming Master Race" phrase in their posts. :)
Nah, the "glorious PC master race" thing is almost always used as an insult, then when you call them on it, they just say "it's just a joke" and of course the mods can't touch it 'cos Yahtzee is the one who coined it as a joke, intended to actually mock the people who thought that.

I think it's a primarily male community that is overly sexist, racist and homophobic. Many of them have little clue as to how the world really is. Or how women really are for that matter. Or how anything really is for that matter.

It's a male dominated sphere. With male dominated opinions and bias on everything. A differing opinion in any way, shape or form on the site is typically attacked ruthlessly and for little reason other than it being a differing opinion.

As a female poster here and a survivor of sexual assault, I have been harassed, have had numerous rape jokes sent to me personally, been victim and slut shamed, told I am looking to be offended, called a Feminazi for simply being a woman and more.

I don't really enjoy this forum. I basically just come to remind myself how backwards some people really are.

You asked.

Love this place. Interesting discussions, funny topics, helpful posters, engaging community. Also, the only place where I can discuss Persona or Front Mission games, so there's that. Sooooo, yeah. Good place, good people, especially Shrekfan, Tizzy, Fizzy, and more.

While this place has it ups and downs but overall I pretty much prefer this site over any other sites out there.

As a whole, the Escapist community is pretty rad. I wouldn't have hung around for as long as I have if I didn't like this place.

People tend to be more civil and thoughtful with their posts here compared to other gaming forums. That might be due to the forum rules weeding out the more...contentious folk out there. I particularly like how you can't just quote someone, type "this" and be done with it. If that's all you were going to post, then why bother in the first place?

The community's not perfect, though. For one thing, this forum tends to attract a higher degree of elitists, "militant atheists," and "LOL 'MERICA" types. Also, I tend to avoid "hot button" threads (feminism, politics, religion, rape jokes, the "friend zone," etc.), as they quickly spiral out of control into fifty-page megathreads with the same few people going back and forth ad infinitum.

Also, I think the Escapist's news coverage warrants some revamping. News articles here are filled with "yellow journalism" tactics, from sensationalist headlines to staff writers weighing in with their opinions in what should be objective journalism. Save it for the editorials, please.

Finally, I had an ugly incident a few years ago with one of the news staff. I won't name the person in question out of politeness (and fear of possible reprisal), but when I tried to issue some constructive criticism on a news article, the author rebuffed me by making a joke at my expense. When I politely tried to convey my feelings on the matter in a PM, I was only met with more teasing. Frankly, it was rude and unprofessional given the person's status on the site. That was the only really negative experience I've had here though, besides the occasional user out to cause trouble. They usually get banned within a few weeks, though.

In general?
Neutral. My first impression of this site was that everyone was sophisticated, mostly polite and all that jazz.
But then I realized that it's likely a facade brought about by the strict set of rules. If you want to get banned, you insult somebody directly. If you want to cheat the system, you argue with a person to the point where they post something that you can report them for. It's a typographic game of chicken, where the person who baits the other into saying something nasty and directed towards them wins.

Maybe that's me assuming the worst, but that's what I can observe from time to time in heated discussions.
There also appears to be a lot of elitist thinkers out there who will try to argue about anything. To say that "they are right" on issues where there aren't any rights or wrongs. Rather than saying "we disagree, but it was interesting to see someone else's view" they will continue to respond with the delusion that the subject is of black/white and they are correct. It's something that I haven't really seen anywhere else, because in those cases it devolves into direct insults and the "combatants" buggering off without any further interaction.

The coverage the site does is also kind of wonky. Borderline unprofessional at times, and chock-full of opinions rather than slapping the facts down. I'd say something about the features as well, but those are really subjective things more often than not so I'll with-hold my sentiments on that matter.

At this point you may be thinking that this bloke hates this place.
Nope, it's alright. Can definitely improve in a bunch of aspects but it's quite swell when put in comparison to a decent amount of different locations on the net. I'd imagine that the average regular here is smarter than those of elsewhere. It's often quite enjoyable to read and reply to the thoughts of others, but not all the time.

I come here for people like this who are unaware of the hypocrisy of the beliefs they wear on their sleeves.

It's alright, I suppose. The forums aren't part of the good stuff though. There's too many repetitive threads, not much discussion other than I'm right and you're wrong, few interesting topics. R&P is awful. I think the site would be improved by simply removing that subboard altogether.

I think the groups are what's the best part about the community, because it gathers the more interesting members with similar interests together to actually talk. They're basically unmoderated too, even if they'd claim otherwise. I've never seen a poster get a single warning for something they posted in a group. And apparently several people has complained about what I've posted in groups. Never got one warning for that. >_>

Some of the writers of the news should stick to facts, not opinions.

I think the content (Jimquisition etc.) is pretty good though, especially the last months.

Except that Daystar guy, right? I heard he don't even return yo' calls no mo'! Gurl, I don't know why you put up with him for so long.

OT: Well, if I hadn't found the Brovengers I dunno that I'd still be an active member of the forums. For every post that makes me laugh and grin, I can usually find five that just make my jaw gape and/or make me facepalm.

Having said that, it's a lot better here than on any of the other forums I've chanced to enter, with the possible exception of Destructoid. As many people get hit by it over the course of their posting, I'm glad the low-content-rule is one that exists, even if the mods don't always catch every person who breaks it. It's fun to see a thread or two every now and then where most of the responses are reaction gifs. It's no longer fun when that's pretty much every thread.

Speaking from my own experience, the common area of the Venn diagram between PC gamers that use "Glorious PC Master Race" and PC gamers with an over inflated sense of self is thin. "Glorious PC Master Race" itself is an ironic self-deprecating term because of the obvious implication of Nazism or any other blatantly racist nationalist movement.

In my experience, it's a lot different. I've only a seen a few PC gamers not being "glorious master race" this and "filthy console peasants" that.

Don't get me wrong, not saying all are like that on here but the scales are in the favor of elitism.

Just calling 'em like I sees 'em.

I'm also not saying the PC isn't more powerful or more versatile.

Even though there are as much bitching, name calling, and subtle trolling as any other community, I find this one to be objectively the most tolerable. There have been heated moments where I stood my ground against the entire website on certain issue but ultimately the captcha says it best:

CAPTCHA: learn from mistakes - You said it, I can now sneakily disagree without causing a massive flame war. >:)

Love the fun you guys have here. It's like each day I constantly find something that just makes me laugh because of either funny picture or some strange analogy of some weird description.

Basically, I like laughing at you guys, because gaming humor is one of the few things that makes me laugh these days.
